President Obama Backs Gay Marriage Ballot Measures in These Three States

US President Back Obama speaks during a campaign rally at Ybor City Museum State Park on October 25, 2012 in Tampa, Florida. (AP) — President Barack Obama on Thursday threw his support behind ballot measures in Maine, Maryland and Washington state that would legalize same-sex marriage.
Though the president first voiced his general approval for gay marriage in May, he had not previously offered specific endorsements of the three measures.
In each case, the endorsements were issued through the state branches of Obama’s re-election campaign.
“While the president does not weigh in on every single ballot measure in every state, the president believes in treating everyone fairly and equally, with dignity and respect,” said Paul Bell, the campaign’s press secretary in Washington state.
“Washington’s same-sex marriage law would treat all Washington couples equally, and that is why the president supports a vote to approve Referendum 74,” Bell said.
In Maine, gay-rights supporters put the measure on this year’s ballot in hopes of reversing the results of a 2009 referendum in which voters rejected a same-sex marriage law passed by the legislature.
In Maryland and Washington, gay-marriage laws were passed by lawmakers and signed by the governors earlier this year, but opponents collected enough signatures to hold referendums on whether the laws should be upheld or rejected.
Ed Murray, an openly gay state senator in Washington who has been fighting for years to legalize gay marriage, expressed gratitude to Obama.
“When I first began fighting in the legislature for marriage equality … I would never have dared to dream that a president of the United States would one day step forward at this crucial moment, in the middle of his own close re-election campaign, to offer his support for our efforts,” Murray said. “But that is exactly what President Obama has done, and it is an example of his courage and leadership.”
Murray said his hope was to soon be able to wed his partner of 21 years, and he thanked Obama for “bringing that dream a little closer to reality.”
Chip White of Preserve Marriage Washington, which opposes the gay-marriage law, said he was unsurprised by Obama’s action.
“Until May of this year, the president’s position was that marriage is the union of one man and one woman,” White said. “No one called him a bigot or said he was unfair for holding that position. And Washingtonians who believe in the traditional definition of marriage as one man and one woman are not bigots.”
If any of the measures are approved, it would be the first time that a state legalized same-sex marriage through a popular vote. Thus far, all 32 states voting on gay marriage have rebuffed it, while the six states that have legalized it did so through legislation or court orders.
In all three states voting on the issue on Nov. 6, the outcome is expected to be close, though the polls up to now have given an edge to gay-marriage supporters.

Posted on October 26, 2012 at 1:37amHm. It may behoove you to know, that Mr. Barry Soetoro, current Occupant of the WH, is packed tighter than a small, fuse-lit explosive on the Fourth of July (a firecracker, kiddies). To wit –
Mr. Soetoro’s marriage was arranged – http://www.wnd.com/2012/10/jesse-jackson-wright-arranged-obama-marriage/
Three of Mr’ Soetoro’s gay lovers met their makers within 45days of each other, Nov 17 – Dec 26, 2007 – http://fellowshipofminds.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/mom-of-murdered-obama-gay-lover-speaks-up/
Witness’s speak about Mr. Soetoro’s activities – http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message1986052/pg1
…but what about Mr. Larry Sinclair? The man who claimed to have had s-ex and co-caine with Mr. Soetoro? Mr. Soetoro and his administration sued Mr. Sinclair for libel – and lost… – http://www.conservativerefocus.com/blog5.php/2012/04/24/obama-s-gay-sex-accuser-wins-libel-case-against-him-judge-rules-larry-sinclair-exonerated

Posted on October 26, 2012 at 1:01amLet me be perfectly clear, with a name like “The Blaze” one wouldn’t think that you all here would be so down on ol’e Bath House Barry. Make no mistake, if you’re not aware of Reverend Jeremiah Wrights’ infamous “Down Low Club” then you’re just not paying attention. Of course that’s a little hard to do with the mainstream media and even some so called conservatives (thank you Glenn), shielding me from the furor that would result if you actually knew the truth.
It’s good to be King!

He does this then cozies up to the Muslim Brotherhood who want Shariah Law which encourage to kill gays, stop women from studying and going outside without a male family member and countless other atrocities. What he is for is anything that will get his base excited like in 2008. So many young people belief him.

Posted on October 25, 2012 at 10:23pmObama bin Laden is a moral relativist and a moral turncoat. He and his supporters, the Left/Wrong/Lib/Des, should have their own country, The Liberal States of America, where atheists, communists, gays, abortionists, and moral liberals can have their own immoral, corrupt, nanny/welfare/communist government based on godless principles and toleration of everything evil. Our ideologies are incompatible, like healthy cells and cancer – so let’s cut the cancer out and let it “grow” on its own. We can come up with a fair real estate split by population size. Lots of people will have to move. America has cancer folks. Conservatives need to regain control and never back down again. We got where we are through apathy and tolerating evil instead of fighting it and cutting it out, and it has spread. I pray for Romney/Ryan and all true Americans who believe in God and the inspired Constitution. This Frankenstorm could be the finger of God. I pray that the North East will repent. A lot of Libs/Dems could be about to be divinely disenfranchised.

Posted on October 25, 2012 at 10:00pmGood. Since the Constitution does not authorize the federal government to be involved in marriage – let the states decide. This is why we have states.
Let’s see above if theblazers have a knee-jerk reaction or actually think this through…..

Posted on October 25, 2012 at 10:39pmEvery state also adopted the Common Law (except Louisiana which uses the Napoleonic Code) which defines marriage. Our laws are based on Anglo-Saxon law and tradition, not on the whims of men.
“In the English common law tradition from which our legal doctrines and concepts have developed, a marriage was a contract based upon a voluntary private agreement by a man and a woman to become husband and wife. Marriage was viewed as the basis of the family unit and vital to the preservation of morals and civilization. Traditionally, the husband had a duty to provide a safe house, pay for necessities such as food and clothing, and live in the house. The wife’s obligations were maintaining a home, living in the home, having mutual sexual relations with her husband, and rearing the couple’s children.”
The Common Law preceded both the states and the federal Government.
Maryland’s Constitution states: “Art. 5. (a) (1) That the Inhabitants of Maryland are entitled to the Common Law of England, and the trial by Jury, according to the course of that Law, and to the benefit of such of the English statutes as existed on the Fourth day of July, seventeen hundred and seventy-six;”
I’m pretty sure homosexual marriage was never a right, nor sanctioned by our ancient Laws, nor even recognized as possible.
“Ours is a nation of laws. We are ruled by laws, not men.”
States have an obligation to adhere to the Rule of Law.

That may be. But when the people of a state decide to alter their laws without violating Constitutionally protected rights, they should be free to do so.
Nobody alive signed on to English Common Law, so we should be free to alter it at the local levels

Posted on October 25, 2012 at 11:16pmI agree most issues should be fought and dealt with at the state level. We don’t need issues to become bigger than what they are. The federal Government should stick to the powers delegated to it in the Constitution, and only worry about those matters. Personally, I believe the Supreme Court will eventually weigh in the matter, and will have to follow precedent, and rule to uphold marriage as always has been defined and adopted in this nation. That is, if Obama doesn’t win and appoint new radical Judges for life. Same with abortions. Abortions would quickly be ended if states were allowed to make those decisions. While a nationwide law prohibiting the process would be more desirable, such an initiative would take too long and be too politicized, which is the spot we’re in now. It’s taking way too long. I’m pretty darn sure most states would overturn abortions overnight if given the chance. There would be a lot less legal abortions, that’s for sure.

Posted on October 26, 2012 at 1:08amStates’ rights all of a sudden are making sense to a lot of people. I’m glad. The founders were brilliant in their support of a very limited Federal government. The states rights have been violated repeatedly over many years. Some think Obamacare is Constitutional. FORCING all Americans to purchase health insurance on a Federal level. The Supreme Court bent over backwards to say it was a tax and thus constitutional. Tax bills must originate in the House, Obamacare didn’t.
It is good that there is increased awareness now of the rights of individuals and states. If you don’t like the policies in one state, you can help change them or move to a state that is more to your liking. But if you make the Federal government all powerful, the states lose and so does the individual. You won’t always have your party in power. Presidential elections are every four years. It makes sense to follow our divinely inspired Constitution. All are equal and all are sinners in God’s eyes.
