U.N. Investigator Calls for Boycott of Companies Doing Business in Israel

A United Nations special investigator is calling for a boycott of companies that do business in Israel, including the U.S.-based Caterpillar Inc., Hewlett-Packard and Motorola Solutions Inc., until they adhere to “international human rights standards” with regard to the “occupied Palestinian territory.”

U.N. Special Rapporteur Richard Falk claimed in a report to the General Assembly on Thursday that a number of Israel-owned and multinational companies may be violating international human rights standards and practices by exploiting Palestinians or assisting Israel with security matters.

Caterpillar, for example, has “suppl[ied] equipment, such as bulldozers and construction apparatus to the government of Israel, which is used in the demolition of Palestinian homes, schools, orchards, olive groves and crops,” according to the report.

“[A]ll companies should be boycotted, until such point as they bring their operations fully in line with international human rights standards and practice. In this regard, civil society efforts to pursue the implementation of the [U.N.] Guiding Principles establish a distinctive space between voluntary and obligatory action in the struggle to protect persons vulnerable to human rights abuse,” the report states.

The Anti-Defamation League blasted the report and its author, saying Falk has “made it his mission to single out Israel as a human rights violator” and uses his position to “advance a biased agenda fueled by anti-Israel animus.”

“While the issue of human rights violations experienced by Palestinians is a legitimate area of concern and inquiry, Richard Falk has repeatedly abused his position as special rapporteur to unleash unrestrained hatred and disdain for Israel,” Anti-Defamation League National Director Abraham Foxman said in a statement. “This malevolence permeates his official reports and, at times, his personal statements, which include the use of anti-Semitic imagery and comparisons of Israeli actions to those of the Nazis.”

  Before you comment, you need to do your own research. Richard Falk is Jewish. This is what the online website Wikipedia says about him. You must remember he is most likely liberal in his viewpoints. Remember as us Jews say “two Jews, three opinions.” He is making reference to the Israeli government, not the citizens of Israel.

  It seems that this photo was taken during the recent renovations to the glass exterior, Monk. I guess those attached things are there to stop debris accidentally injuring the various paragons of peace and virtue as the enter and exit the building.
  
  In case you’re wondering, the renovations are budgetted at $1.9 billion. Some estimates have suggested that the final cost will be closer to $3 billion.

  The UN peacekeeper mission was and still is an absolute joke. In Kosovo they got guns with no ammo. Ruwanda was an epic crime against its refugees and It’s not been any better since. Ironically the UN HRC (human rights commission) is run by despotic regimes. But there is a large movement to change the Constitution on that point and take away all of the “perks” for “just being born here”.
  And even though there was no such place as Palistine in biblical times, by the early 20th century there were magically “Palistinians” … sometimes called refugees. So, if they are some sort of refugee, why doesn’t one on their Arab-Brother countries give them some land and resettle them there? I cannot wait for the day where the U.S. starts defunding the U.N., but this will be only possible if Obama doesn’t get reelected. Does anyone know what Romney thinks about the U.N.? I only remember Perry saying something about it. To me the U.N. is working for and with the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. Is Hamas also adhering to international human rights standards? I know that many Palestinian Arabs are persecuted, tortured and killed by Hamas on a daily basis.

I say we allow the U.N. to stay, but start charging them rent, taxes, and levys. I’m thinkin about $1.4 trillion a month rent (hey, that’s some prime real estate) charge all members 47% income tax rate, 60% on capital gains-75% if those capital gains come from American investments by any non American member, and levy “Green” taxes on their carbon dioxide emmissions. In other words, it’s free to inhale all the air you want, but as soon as you exhale, we’re gonna tax your carbon dioxide. If these terms are unacceptable to them, then by all means, feel free to GTFO! By the way, $1.4 trillion is’nt a random #…comes up to $16 trillion a year :)
