Wait Until You Hear About the Latest Things MSNBC’s Chris Matthews Finds Racist: ‘It’s a Sickness by the White People’

During “Hardball” on Wednesday, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews took on the daunting task of calling out all the “racist” things conservatives say, which, according to him, constantly “trickles out” every week. For anyone who is keeping score, the words “monkeying,” “watermelon,” and the phrase “shuck and jive” are all racist, the host revealed.

“The blatantness of this thing, I think, went through the roof the other day when Sarah Palin, who people have mixed views, put out a Facebook post titled ‘Obama’s shuck and jive ends with Benghazi lies,’” Matthews said to his guest, syndicated columnist Clarence Page.

“A dog whistle is a dog whistle. A trumpet call is another,” he continued, adding that “shuck and jive” has an “ethnic connection.”

After explaining the history of the term and mentioning that it originated in the South, Page said it disturbed him more that Palin was “jumping to conclusions” regarding the terrorist attack on the U.S. mission on Benghazi.

“That’s just paranoid politics,” he said.

But Matthews was sure it was just racism. “When you keep doing this stuff like — look at this Thompson, the kid of Tommy Thompson,” Matthews said. “I got nothing against Tommy Thompson, but he’s raising his kids wrong when the kid shouts out at some event that…[Obama] is from Kenya.”

Matthews said the racism just “trickles out” every couple weeks. The MSNBC host even found a way to find racist undertones in Donald Trump’s statement that Obama was “monkeying” with the unemployment numbers when the rate dropped to 7.8 percent earlier this month.

Jonathan Alter, Bloomberg View columnist and MSNBC contributor, agreed with Matthews and said conservatives are displaying “rank racism.”

“Shuck and Jive, that’s like talking about watermelon or, for Jews, talking about Jews are greedy or Irish are drunk or whatever. These are racist tropes and we need to call them what they are,” Alter said.

Matthews and Alter also agreed that Trumps “big Obama announcement” on Wednesday, offering $5 million for the president’s college transcripts, was racist as well and about proving Obama was an “affirmative action” student.

“He’s basically saying Barack Obama was too stupid to be at Columbia because he was an affirmative action student,” Alter added. “It’s racist.”

Matthews followed up with this extremely difficult to follow statement: “Anybody out there, by the way, thinks we’re saying things, it’s over and over again. And if you think we’re saying things, you’re dead wrong and you’re dangerous.”

Got that? Good.

“As a white person, I think it’s a statement against the white people to talk like this,” Matthews said after playing a clip of Mitt Romney surrogate John Sununu saying he wishes Obama would learn how to be an “American.”

“It’s a sickness by the white people. Anyway, they ought to be ashamed of themselves,” he concluded.

For the record, there was nothing remotely racist in my use of the phrase “shuck and jive” – a phrase which many people have used, including Chris Matthews, Andrew Cuomo, and White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to name a few off the top of my head. In fact, Andrew Cuomo also used the phrase in reference to Barack Obama, and the fact that Mr. Cuomo and I used the phrase in relation to President Obama signifies nothing out of the ordinary. I would have used the exact same expression if I had been writing about President Carter, whose foreign policy rivaled Obama’s in its ineptitude, or about the Nixon administration, which was also famously rocked by a cover-up.

  I see the absolute sickness in it. Chrissie and the gang are from being the only ones who embrace this sentiment. I’d wager more than half the white people who voted for Obama did so only because he is half black (and half white, btw) and didn’t want to be seen as racist.   I have no idea what picture to click on to watch the advertised Matthews segment. I could pick from three or four but then I’d have to sit through various commercials and ads hoping I’d picked the right one–assuming it “loaded” properly and didn’t trigger some sort of cascading security problems that would require a reboot by the time it was over. Why not clearly LABEL which “screen shot” would allow me to watch the Matthews segment indicated. Why do these sites become so user unfriendly over time. Maybe they ought to hire and Ombudsman like the NYT.

  The biggest racists in the country are definately Obama, Holder, Mathews (he hates white people), and Colin Powel. The only reason Powel supports Obo is because he’s black….period. He is to intelligent to believe that anything Obo does is correct or for the good of the country. (Or at least he was). As a military man, he should be outraged by Obo’s complete disregard for the American lives lost in Libya, so not to interfere with his party schedule. Powel is a disgrace to the American military.   There is no physical test for it…yet. For now we have to diagnose it by behavior. Seemingly intelligent people start acting and speaking in increasingly un-American ways. As it progresses they act in more socialist/communist ways. It’s so sad and it has spread throughout the east coast and the west coast, with pockets all across this great nation. I don’t think there’s any doubt that Chrissy has “it”. As does so many including Rachel Madcow, Joy Behar, Bill Maher, Alan Colmes, Andrea Mitchell, Katie Couric, Matt Lauer, Babs Streisand and so, so many more. There is also a concentrated pocket of it located in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, including the White House, Congress, the Supreme Court and almost all Federal buildings. Some parts of the military also seem to be affected, but usually in the higher ranks. Even some retired military officers…for example, Colin Powell.
  We have yet to find a cure. However, should Mitt Romney win the Presidential election in less than 2 weeks, it is widely believed these people will either IMPLODE-which could solve alot of problems for most Americans. Or they may EXPLODE, which will cause a whole new set of problems for Americans. Either way, our country and the people will be greatly affected by the next couple of weeks.

  Dost thou protest too much. Much as the guilty run when no one chases, the racist sees racism in every word not agreeing with him. In order to take attention from his own racism, he tries to apply the term to all opponents. I almost quit a job because of a man like him. I was having to go back to make repairs on EVERY job I did, and could not understand what I was doing wrong until I walked in on the followup crew just in time to see him destroy a part of my installation.   It’s pointless to try and sue somone who’s nuts. Chrissy, like the character Howard Beale in the movie Network, has crossed over to the nut kingdom. In the movie, top executives had Beale assassinated on live tv for ratings. I wounder if real life will imitate art and Crissy will be gunned down for ratings? No wishful thinking here, just wondering! I’d rather see him taken away by some guys in white jackets to Sunnbrook Funnyfarm. In a couple of years it would be nice to be treated to a ‘Where Are They Now’ featuring Chrissy happily basket weaving at Sunnybrook, transformed into a Pee Wee Herman like character.   I figured it out, Matthews is the white half of Obama incarnate, with all of Obama’s prejudices and dishonesty in a whiter than white package. He can say all the things BHO wants to say in public but won’t in order to avoid the ABM (Angry Black Male) label.

I have a great idea for a skit on BSofA. Racist Hunters, based on all of the ghost hunting shows on cable TV! Brian can take take his crew of MSNBC “racist hunters” to a conservative convention in search of racists and bigots! They’ll get there and set up all of their racist detection equipment and look for clues. They’d find like a white table cloth and then go nuts over how just definitive the proof is!   It’s funny that Matthews thinks that if he sides with the black folks that somehow he will be spared if he ever runs into a bunch of punks on the street when the revolution starts. I decided to catch a glimpse of Hardball tonight, ya know, just for laughs. All I got was a thrill up my optical nerve that led to bleeding from my retina. They can’t cover Fast and Libya, so they resort to claims of racism. What the heck?! At least talk about something else, like the tropical storm brewing down south. Bunch of maroons.   MONK….do you recall that at one point Chris Matthews was actually considering running for the United States Senate (Pennsylvania)…….I bring this up because at some point he was so enamored with his prowess that he felt he could be a United States Senator…..
  ….wait a minute…..now that I mention it…he would fit in just fine as one….the one current PA Senator Bob Casey is the least effective legislator in recent history not having done one single thing thing of notoriety in six solid years…..were it not so serious…it would have been better to have Matthews as a US senator…..at least the rules of procedure would have mandated that 99 percent of what came out of his insane pie hole would have been stricken from the record.

  I look at this differently. I laughed through most of it. I actually feel bad for Chris. The truth is, he can say anything he wants, it doesn’t make it true. He is getting to the point where his show might have better ratings on HBO with many of the other comedian commentators.
  
  He really does have this “white guilt: thing going on. It will be interesting to see how he reacts if Romney wins the election. I suspect he will drink much more, if that is possible.

Chris Matthews must think he is black.. Or.. he is a progressive and believes in political correctness. So, the best way to shut up the opposition is to make sure the words they are using are considered racist. Unless of course, a person of color uses them. Like the word Ni**er. That is a horrible word, but, when used by a person of color, it is endearing. In other words, there are certain words in the english language that only certain races can use. I seem to remember an amendment to the US constitution that dictates that… well, not really, but sarcasm is all I have left.

  as a Black woman, i have often wondered if the we need to call Chris and break the news to him that he’s NOT Black–maybe we could all chip in and buy him a mirror. i personally love the interview (above) where the two White guys correct the Black guy when he says the statements weren’t racist. to me, THAT was offensive–basically saying, “you don’t have a right to your opinion. we’ll TELL YOU what to think.” R&R 2012
