‘Frankenstorm’ Winds Leave Partially-Collapsed Crane Dangling From Manhattan Skyscraper

With winds reaching up to 100 miles per hour at high-rise levels (it’s about 55 mph on the ground) in downtown New York City, a crane in Midtown Manhattan has “partially collapsed” from the conditions. There are been no reported injuries yet.

The local ABC channel has a live feed of the crane situation here. The broadcasters called it a “hugely dangerous” situation and expressed concern over how work crews would be able to get on the scene to secure the crane. The crane is reported to be between 57th and 7th Avenue.

Here are a few tweets about it:

Broadcaster Diana Williams on the ground said that pieces of the crane appeared to be dangling and tangled and described it as “a lot of metal that’s just wrapped around up there.” Williams later went on to say the crane is “dangling off the side of the building,” which is a luxury condo high-rise under construction. Even with high winds on the ground, the wind is expected to be even stronger at higher altitudes.

Emergency responders were blocking off the street, keeping the area clear of people. Megyn Kelly said on Fox News Monday afternoon that while the area was supposed to be secure, from her window, she saw some still walking around downtown Manhattan.

Williams noted that even some emergency vehicles have backed up a couple blocks from the crane. Some emergency responders are heading to nearby buildings to clear them of people as a precaution.

This is a developing story. We’ll update with more information as it becomes available.

This was an inside job. It’s a controlled boom collapse.

There was a report that explosions where heard right before the crane boom collapsed.

No Jews walked by this building today as though they new something was up.

And the speed in which the boom collapsed was faster than gravity.

This is just a pretext to go into Iran by the banksters and NWO.

I’m certain Dick Cheney was up there setting the charges and Donald Rumsfeld was holding the ladder.

And I betcha anything George W Bush was at the HARRP facility in Alaska directing this storms path.

You know it’s true, why deny it.

The crane is in no danger of falling….. The WTC buildings can’t collapse and the Titanic is unsinkable. Whew! For a minute I was worried

I have the same sympathy for the NE that they had for Louisiana or any southern state in the path of a hurricane. Katrina was politicized beyond imagination. Southerners have been mocked and ridiculed and asked, “Where is your God now?”

Well, Obama is the liberal god and his advice is, “Stand down, retreat.” While the liberals will face and aftermath of riots, looting and murder in the streets, I will be recalling a story of some chickens coming home to roost.

I just flipped over PMSNBC and Martin Bashir. He had a clip of Clinton at some Obama knee dweller rally and actually said Obama said, “He had to leave and handle the hurricane.” Really? And Bashir just had to mention to Michael Steele who he was intereviewing about how “steady this President is in a crisis, whether it’s killing Bin Laden or this crisis.” And of course had to mention the failure of GWB with Katrina. Apparently Barry can lasso a hurricane. Any video of Obama with his cape on flying over New York waiting to catch any cranes???? Barry and the complicit accomplices in the media are freaking out and are scared. It’s in their eyes and nervous laughs. Romney had to “scrap his campaign” and Obama is “handling the hurricane”. Hell, he probably had a HAARP scientist create it in the first place to look “Presidential”. Never underestimate the enemy. And this isn’t a big hurricane! The Perfect Storm of 1991 was a storm! Galveston 1900 or Hurricane Andrew in 1992 which Obama alledged that government reached out in aid faster to white Floridians than black folks years later in Katrina. The msm wouldn’t be paying attention if it wasn’t headed for NY/NJ and effected the campaigns.

It is still hard to tell who is more angry that Obama killed Osama.
Pakistan, Al Qaeda, or the GOP.

Obama doesn’t have to look “presidential”, he IS the President. He just has to do his job, and that’s what he’s doing right now. Can you ratchet down the rhetoric a bit in this time of crisis? I don’t think Sandy cares wether your and R or a D

The Left is the angry bunch. I remember how they politicized KATRINA. And that was local and state failure from the start. By the way PeaceandHarmony, we don’t know OBL is even dead. No photos. No Navy Seals left from two chopper crashes. Only one who wrote a book and he always interviews in shadow. Even if OBL is dead, Bush’s people did the work and Obama took the credit after a couple of rounds of golf and a few well slept nights. But everything is his fault, right? The people of NJ and NYC will be fine. Obama is all over it. He’s the President of the United States and if there is one thing he’s good at its stopping hurricanes with other people doing the real work. He’s on standby waiting to do nothing. Just like Benghazi.

    NYC Cityhall:
Is there a brain in the building? Repeat is there a brain in the building? Guess not.

How hard is it to understand that wind is stronger the higher up you go? That means the wind from a category 1 hurricane like Sandy(no super storm we used to get one or two category 1 storms in FL every year) will be category 2 or 3 at the top of skyscrapers. There is more than one reason there are so few buildings that can be called skyscrapers in FL.

In all seriousness…..I would not put it past the liberals to tell their base in NY to loot. This will give Obama a perfect excuse to declare a “National State of Emergency” aka Martial Law.

But then again this may be God trying to warn all those people who were going to vote for Obama that maybe they should change their mind….just look at the path the storm is taking….it is going right through all those Blue states.

This sort of thing happens because the Mayor is more concerned with drink sizes than with the general safety of the city and the occupational safety of those who work there.

I wonder if the Mayor will lift the ban on 16oz drinks for a time so that survivors of the storm can quench their thirst.

Humor is where, and when, you find it. Spotted this headline by AP:
“New Yorkers try for normalcy as Sandy approaches.”

Would that they would strive for normalcy at other times.

Idiotas! I know I joke about hurricanes here in FL but we know know serious they can be and are prepared eight ways to Sunday in case something goes wrong. These people have no idea what they’re risking, do these people realize it could take WEEKS to repair underground power lines and water mains? Does the attitudes portrayed in this story remind anyone but me of Katrina?

Looks like crane is secure every 50 feet to the side of the building. Damaged boom is most likely still very secure with steel winch line cables and boom brackets attached at numerous points to main carrier. Boom most likey can be rotated towards building and them torched off in small sections by contractor; then, removed by elevator. The other approach is secure boom to tower and then slowly lower tower to ground. This crane is no longer OSHA certified and will have to be replaced before work can continue. In fact with this accident, all cranes in the area may have to be recertified before they can be used again.

HAHA!! I posted about this last week. I asked if the cranes, scaffolding, and other items that were not part of the buildings were being taken down because it is windy near the top of high rise buildings on a normal day. ~ Sometimes I wonder how we have survived all these years with morons in positions of leadership.

Oh, THAT is going to be fun to fix on Wednesday morning! I wonder if they’ll have to jack the whole mess to the ground to clean it up or rig a second crane to do it? Luxury condo high rise while the rest of the country is going broke???? I thought all the cranes went to Washington, D.C., which wouldn’t know a depression if it bit them on the A$$!

Now we can expect Obama and Hillary to blame this on the pending election of Romney. According to Drudge Hillary has said the storm that will come with Romneys election will pale compared to this hurricane.

55 miles per hour on the ground. Didn’t anyone in Bloombergland consider this cranes precarious position knowing a storm was coming? Prepared? I think not..an absolute avoidable situation overlooked..Now, it is “caused by the storm”? Perhaps the cause is simple; nobody took care of the crane knowing a storm was coming and winds would exceed those on the ground this high up…people error..a man made disastor, using Obummers terminology. By the way..Why didn’t Obama warn people in Bloombergland to secure or remove heavy equipment on these high rises? That’s what the left would have asked of Bush
