Report: Labor Dept. Considers Delaying Release of Final Jobs Report Until After Election
The U.S. Labor Department on Monday announced that it is considering delaying the release of Friday’s October employment report, citing Hurricane Sandy as its chief reason, the Wall Street Journal reports.
“We will assess the situation when the weather emergency is over and notify the press and public of any changes at that time,” said Gary Steinberg, spokesman for the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Keep in mind, this is the final jobs report before the election.
“Labor is scheduled to release the employment report on Friday, third quarter employment costs on Wednesday and weekly jobless claims on Thursday,” the Journal report notes.
As of this writing, it’s also being reported that the U.S. Census Bureau is considering delaying this week’s construction spending and factory orders reports.
Final Thought — If the Labor Department decides to delay the final pre-election jobs report, consider the following:
If BLS magically decides to not release the jobs data on Friday, keep in mind that it completed its data collection over a week ago.
— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) October 29, 2012
However, to be fair, and as the Wall Street Journal notes, the delay (if there is one) could be more the result of Washington power outages and transportation disruptions than a lack of data.
UPDATE –A spokesman for the Labor Department tells Buzzfeed in a statement that they are doing everything they can to have the numbers out by Friday:
The employees at the Bureau of Labor Statistics are working hard to ensure the timely release of employment data on Friday, November 2.
It is our intention that Friday will be business as usual regarding the October Employment Situation Report.

Posted on October 29, 2012 at 1:40pmOh no, this again? We get a lecture from the Labor Sec. and then we find out that the Obozo surrogate that is in charge of submitting the numbers for California just forgot to turn the numbers in for the first time ever. Oh and then Frankenstorm is causing the MSM to push the cancel the elections option. Obozo fly’s down to Florida last night and then get’s and takes off early before attending the Campaign event. Bozo just borrowed a million of our tax dollars for that gaffe and charged it off to you, the tax payer. All for political reasons… Keep in mind HAARP can create storms…..Maybe Clooney’s percfect storm is being used for political reasons too. I know I know crazy, but the Govt’ is capable of anything to keep Obama…

I thought the EXACT same thing! So what does that have to do with a storm?? They are providing totals on Unemployed people, NOT total of people not able to go to their job due to weather! How stupid do they think we are???

Posted on October 29, 2012 at 3:27pmThey’re doing everything in their power to fudge the numbers by Friday like they did last month with their laughable claim the unemployment rate actually dropped.
I predit the numbers WILL come out on Friday and they will show the unemployment rate at about 7.5% – “lowest since Obama took office.”

Posted on October 30, 2012 at 10:59amSo, the Labor Department told us last month, when there was the 3% drop in unemployment, that they were most certainly not in bed with the Obama Administration, and that we should be ashamed for even thinking so. They are completely contradicting themselves now by delaying the Octobers jobs report until after the election.

Posted on October 29, 2012 at 12:35pmIt it is a straw-man argument. We all know that this department is willing to do whatever it can to help Obama, and that they are willing to lie about, manipulate, and to obfuscate real numbers.
So why delay. They are perfectly capabale of creating a B.S. report that will make Obama look better, and nobody will be the wiser until Obama is crowned king again (he hopes).

Posted on October 29, 2012 at 12:33pmWhat about last months figures, and the rumor that Califonia submitted their numbers too late to be included? Was there ever any truth to that, and if so, what were the revised figures? If true, and if they pull similar stuff this month based on politics, it will be hard to believe anything that comes out of the monthly reports from the BLS.

Suddenly gas will be a crippling cost for households. Food and clothing prices will be unacceptable. Inflation, recession, depression, war mongering, oh and a ‘lack of prosperity’ and a lack of ‘non partisan cooperstion’ will be the revolving outcries.
But 4 years to ignore the lies beatsc4 more years of lies being ignored by the 4th estate!

Why was KFI’s AM640 Bill Handel Show (CA) covering Benghazi, and the lame-stream is covering (what this East Coaster – yes kiddies, I’m originally from NY) a common weather occurrence? You know, I listened to a reporter on Fox 11 (TV) fearfully reporting gusts of UP TO 40mph, as if it were a phenomenon.

Posted on October 29, 2012 at 2:29pmReally now, do you think a little rain and wind would stop these folks for signing up for unemployment checks. Heck no. It only stops the government from releasing reports that may look bad for the potus. I live about 35 miles inland from Cape Hatteras. You’d think the world was ending with all these bogus reports of 11′ high storm surges. Nothing but a few leaves coming off the trees and some rain here. Never let a calamity go unused is the Obama mantra. Not many people talking about Benghazi now is it?
