Wait Until You See the ‘Blasphemous’ Bar Ad Featuring Jesus & Mary in Bed Together

The use of religion to sell products almost always leads to controversy. Despite the angst that these ads cause, some companies willingly use faith-based themes, taking the good, the bad and the ugly, and subsequently relishing in the press that is garnered. Recent businesses that have entered this realm are Dr. Pepper and Red Bull, with the latter inevitably pulling a commercial invoking Jesus walking on water.

However, it’s not just big, notable companies that use religion to bring business and create controversy. Consider Chapel Bar & Bistro, a local establishment located in Ponsonby, New Zealand. Piggybacking off of a theme that has occasionally emerged and continues to spawn debate — the notion that Jesus Christ had a romantic relationship with Mary Magdalene — Chapel decided to unleash a highly-controversial ad.

In it, Jesus and Mary are seen lying together on a bed, with the instant assumption being that something sexual has unfolded between the two parties.

Perhaps most noteworthy is the positioning of the model who portrays Jesus. He is situated to look as though he is hanging on the cross. With his arms outstretched and his legs crossed, the image in reminiscent of what can be regularly viewed in houses of worship and religious imagery, alike.

Mary is also facing Jesus, with her hands shown in a prayer formation. Under the bed, a box of half-eaten pizza is observed and the line “7 Years of Almighty Nights” appears at the bottom right side of the ad.

This isn’t the first time Chapel has used Jesus in its advertisements. The two images, below, show Jesus and Mary with pizzas above their heads instead of halos. Obviously, these aforementioned images were much less controversial than this new campaign, which purposefully adds romance and sex into the mix to up the ante and to drum up attention.

BuzzFeed dubbed the new image “the most blasphemous ad of the week.” What do you think? Let us know in the comments section, below.

Christians know better. They are well aware of judgement according to your works (revelation 20). This person will be judged according to their works, lest they are forgiven prior to judgement. This is why Christians don’t have to riot, they are not the Judge, they know our Father is the Judge, he will meet out the punishment soon enough.
I don’t think I would want to stand too close to the one who created this panting during his/her trial, I hear the lake of fire is hot enough to consume your soul completely. Think of the sound grease makes when it hits the fire inside your grill PSsssss….

It really tickles me that whenever something like this comes out American Christians seem to literally want a pat on the back for being able to control their religious bloodlust better than Muslims. No, I’m afraid you don’t score extra points for not murdering people when someone pokes fun at your mythology, it took the secular movement some 400 years to domesticate you to this point.

I notice that there aren’t a lot of pictures of the Prophet Mohammed in bed with his mother. Why is that? Is that because the decadent left has RESPECT for the Muslim Faith? And if so, WHY does the LEFT, which self-avowedly HATES ALL RELIGIONS, have respect for ISLAM? ***sigh*** The Left has respect for Islam for one and ONLY ONE REASON. That reason is best summed up by Robert A. Heinlein who wrote:

“Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor; and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. [C]reeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and their freedoms.”

“I love the way some of you challenge [them] to do a similar image with Mohammed in it,… What would that prove? That you are not brave enough to do the dirty work … your Muslim co-religionists doing?”

“You can not even use the bible to prove the bible or the existance [sic] of a god, it if [sic] full of inconsistencies and hearsay… The Intellectually weak are the belivers [sic] of/in Religion,…”

“It’s only offensive to adults who think like children.”

“No-one should be criticized for ridiculing this fairy-tale for masquerading as truth. It’s self-ridiculing.”

And surprise, Surprise, SURPRISE! Still no VITRIOL directed at the Prophet Mohammed! Only Christians! For all of you PACIFIST CHRISTIANS out there, just some quick questions…. Do you preach the Peace and Love and Forgiveness gospel when theBlaze starts rattling sabers over IRAN? Do you quote Turn the Other Cheek verses when theBlaze reports that Israel is threatened? I doubt it. Why not? Why do the “chosen” people get to defend themselves with force and even violence, but we Christians, in your limited view, do not? Why don’t you urge the JEW to forgive the ARAB or the NAZI? Why discourage other CHRISTIANS from just STANDING UP FOR THEMSELVES when you simultaneously urge other CHRISTIANS to go FIGHT FOR ISRAEL?

So where is Obama & Hillary on this one? They were outranged by the lame You-Tube video about the Mohammed, why aren’t they speaking out against this? It’s that old double standard in action. Obama will allow all of America’s traditions & rights to be corrupted, but someone utter anything about Mohammed & the government drops $70k for ads in Pakistan to apologize. What do the Judeo/Christians in this country have to do to get some respect? Oh, that’s right, we can’t. We are the evil in the world according to the Marxists & Islamic radicals.

Unlike the Muslims they didn’t have 21st technology and weaponry to prove how “peaceful” they were back then.

Davecorkery, the reason they don’t know that he didn’t exist is because they use their writings as history, and ignore actual history. Historical silence, about a man who did so many things the volumes of the world could not contain them, screams “he didn’t exist”, but like Robin Hood, they do not leave the novel to prove their point.

      Matthew 7:1-5
“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? Why can’t we as Christians be better than what groups like Freedom From Religion expect us to be and not mention things like this? Or better yet, laugh at it? The second we start posting how offensive it is and how upset it makes us, we look as foolish as they do. Anyone who attempts to call someone a doofus and then uses the term Illuminati in any context not directly dealing with 1770′s Germany is obviously an uneducated, idiotic, and misinformed dolt. You obviously have been too stupid or too cowardly to take control of your own life and the mistakes you’ve made in it, so need to blame anything and everything that goes wrong on some boogie man conspiracy.

Apparently the previous ads included in the article were successful, or they wouldn’t have used this one, so I doubt if their business will suffer. The Christian equivalents of the Taliban will be frothing at the mouth, calling for a boycott and proclaiming that the business owner(s) will burn in Hell. I see that added publicity as beneficial for the business. If my premise is correct, more ads in a similar vein are sure to follow.

@ Tears For America I don’t call Jesus Christ my Lord? I did not know that about myself… Thank you for informing me of details of my life that I previously didn’t know. I guess the worst part is that I thought I had always thought I had called Jesus my Savior… Funny what strangers can tell you about your life.

This kind of trash is to be expected and no worse than some of the things that some of the God hating atheists who frequent the Blaze say.

God does not like to be mocked. I expect He will deal with those that think this ad is a great idea.

Great Ad! When you complaint and when you use the word “Blasphemy” you are just like the Muslims that freak out over the cartoons of Mohammad. Both of the mythical figures from your legends are fair game for ads, satire and whatever use we can come up with.

Uh no, there’s no comparison. We are not trying to kill the guy that did it. In fact, we hope that he gets right with God.

But, “be not deceived. God is not mocked. For whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
      - Galatians 6:7

Whether you believe the Bible to be God’s Word or not is one thing, be foolish not too, but beside that huge point it is the most validated history book there is, and this history book confirms they are real people.

DO these people have any idea of how sad they are? GOD sent His son to be the substitute for our sins, so He could bring us to Heaven after all to be with Him and how much Jesus loved us to be willing to do this for us? Have they ever read or tried to get to know JESUS CHRIST? I feel so sorry for their ignorance. The finest soul they will ever know. The best. The top of the top. The most kind, most gentle, most loving and forgiving and they mock Him? This photo doesn’t shock me, it saddens me.

How silly little people who do things like this are — They MOCK the GOD who created the UNIVERSE and everything in it…talk about spitting into the wind !!

Well at least this is an opportunity to show the Middle East how it’s done when someone blasphemes your religious figures. Unlike them we AREN’T going to publicly execute people, murder innocents, go parading through the streets screaming “Death to the pizza restaurant owners”. I believe in free speech, and while this is offensive to me, I’ll voice my opinion but leave it to our Creator to give these peeps their reward in the end. Now that this has been made public, Obama is probably writing a note to himself…”Note to self: If re-elected be sure to bail out this pizza parlor if they fall on financial hardships, and help them to build another in NYC right next to the Victory Mosque”.
