Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford Says Hed Like to Go Mano a Mano With Christie Over Hurricane Comments

The mayor of Atlantic City, N.J. said Tuesday he’d like to go “mano-a-mano” with Gov. Chris Christie after Christie publicly criticized him over the city’s preparations for Hurricane Sandy.

Mayor Lorenzo Langford said on NBC’s “Today” that Christie was “either misinformed and ill-advised or simply decided to prevaricate” when he accused him the day before of sending mixed messages to residents by opening shelters in the city despite Christie’s orders to fully evacuate. Atlantic City was hammered by the storm.

“That is not what happened,” said Langford. “Here we are in the throes of a major catastrophe and the governor has chosen such a time as this to play politics. I think it’s reprehensible that he would stoop to the level to try to make a political situation out of something that is so serious as this situation.”

Repeating that Christie’s statement was “absolutely false,” Langford said most residents fortunately did heed the repeated warnings to flee, but “it’s better to have options” for the people who didn’t.

“We had a contingency plan in place,” he said.

NBC’s Matt Lauer said they would try to arrange a time to get both Langford and Christie on the air together at the same time.

“I would love nothing better than that, than to confront the governor mano-a-mano,” Langford said.

For his part, Christie stood by his criticism of Langford on Tuesday, telling CBS’ “This Morning” that “the mayor told folks they could shelter in city shelters as a last resort” and “we knew this was a real potential problem.”

“I don’t know why he did what he did,” Christie said, adding that his concern was now focused on the residents still trapped in the city.

The two have battled before: Christie, a Republican, said earlier this month that Langford, a Democrat, is “impossible to work with in any kind of significant way.” Langford hit back that Christie as governor has “failed miserably to abate” crime problems.

Im just glad that Sandy wiped out ALL democrat blue states,,,,,,,,maybe its a sign! lol,,,,,I really wished NY City was entirely washed away forever,,,,but not this time I guess. Its a big drag on the rest of what is a beautifull state, but Ny city has ruined Ny state as a whole…..maybe next time?

Talking about sinfull, if Christie decided to take Lorenzo up on his offer, he should make sure the idiot wears a locking male chastity belt with some impartial person holding the key. If Lorenzo gets the better of Christie it could turn into a one way luv fest, kinda like the one portayed in the movie Deliverance. The one with the ‘squeal like a pig’ scene. I think Christie would win, but it doesn’t hurt to play it safe. If I were Christie I’d come with a large bag of dog crap, so when I won, i could rub Lorenzo’s nose in it. Of couse there’s always a chance Lorenzon might think it smells great because he’s had his nose up Barry’s buns for so long.

Well Christie could solve the crime problem there by shipping all the bIack people out, but then Langford wouldn’t have any government dependents left to keep him in office so maybe he should just be happy that he gets to keep his constituents even if it means a higher crime rate.

Did anyone see Bloomberg’s comment during the 10:30 time last night. He was complaining to the people to stop calling 911 for stupid reasons(like trees that have fallen). It made me laugh out loud. He has created a nanny state and then he complains when the people look to the govt for everything.

Hey Brentley, Sin is an imaginary disease created to sell you an imaginary cure.

“The divinity of Jesus is made a convenient cover for absurdity.” John Adams
“This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it.” John Adams

Religious people can’t be moral. In order to be moral, you do the right thing simply because it’s the right thing to do. By design, religious people only do the right thing because they believe they will be rewarded later for their good deeds.

Winedude- I want to congratulate you on your idiocy. Nice job taking quotes out of context and your demonstration of knowing nothing about religion. Here is the full quote.

“Twenty times in the course of my late reading have I been on the point of breaking out, “This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion at all!!!” But in this exclamation I would have been as fanatical as Bryant or Cleverly. Without religion, this world would be something not fit to be mentioned in polite company, I mean hell.”

From the article, I get the impression that the Mayor realizes that his city had stupid people living there and that they wouldn’t leave the danger zone. His opening of shelters was an attempt to save the ignorant. Christie indicates that the stupid should have been allowed to die. Look at New Orleans. The place was full of useless living things.

CHIPS you need some help. So let me try. First and foremost we are all CREATED BY GOD. To say that New Orleans was full of useless living things is so offensive it disgusts me. Those “useless things” are people with souls. Souls that are lost. I agree that people should listen and those that don’t will die or hurt. They are still people. It sickens me as I watch my country being torn apart by Politics, drugs etc. IT IS WORK OF EVIL until we get ourselves right with GOD and trust in JESUS we are doomed. Read the bible start with JOHN the whole book good place to begin. I did and now I realize what the real problem is SIN SIN and MORE SIN. THANK YOU JESUS for SAVING MY SOUL…….WE all need that SALVATION then things will turn around….otherwise…nothing good will come of us.

@Brently, you think god created man and you are allowed to think that but maybe others don’t so for you to tell anyone that is imposing your ideas. Does that make you any better to tell someone they need to read the bible. What if that person does not believe? Are they wrong? In your eyes do they need help? Maybe I believe that man came up out of the ocean over thousands of years, who are you to tell me I am wrong?
