Debunked: Here’s the Explanation for the ‘Made in China’ Romney Hat You’re Seeing on Facebook

Both of the presidential candidates for the upcoming election say they will fight for business that will keep and create jobs in the United States. And they’re trying to practice what they preach already with promotional items in their online stores boasting “Made in the USA” labels. But a viral photo showing a Romney hat with “Made in China” stamped on the tag has led some to criticize and others to find the facts.

The photo going viral online (see below) compares a Romney/Ryan hat’s tag to that of an Obama logo hat. The GOP candidate’s hat in blurry text says Made in China while the president’s hat was made in America.

The Waffles at Noon blog points out this other hat (below) that’s on the Web as well.

But not everything is as it seems.

Consider: There are two $30 baseball hats on the MittRomney.com store — one of them add’s Ryan above the bill — and both of them boast being American made. So either the website is falsely advertising, the hats in the viral images are not official, or the photos have been altered. It should be noted the colors available for the Romney hat is only blue, while Romney/Ryan is made in red, white or blue. None of them are made in tan. The officially sold hats also don’t have the text “President 2012″ above the bill.

Romney campaign spokesperson Andrea Saul confirmed to Buzzfeed that all official apparel sold on the MittRomney.com stores is made in the USA.

As the Waffles at Noon blog puts it, with a bounty of unofficial merchandise being sold for both campaigns, “it’s not fair to either candidate to blame him for unofficial ‘Made in China’ products that he didn’t endorse.”

A typical liberal uproar. Who’s hat was made by over paid union workers? This is what the liberals think is on the mind of voters? Where a campaign hat is made?
Then who would ever believe that some Obama backer would use a counterfeit Romney campaign hat to attack Romney? Would a hard working union member ever do such a thing?

Will the East Coast is under water, Barry and his army of liars are out complaining about a hat. They see nothing wrong with the 6 weeks of lies Barry told about the Benghazi murders, the media wont even mention it.
It getting easy to see what’s really important to the left.

The Unions are a far greater threat to my freedom than the ChiComs. If given the choice I’ll wear Made in China apparel every day of the week and twice on Sunday over Union made apparel. In fact, I’d rather go naked than wear Union made clothing.

I think the union we conservatives most concern with are those of the public service type. To make issue over private sector unions would be foolish. I am still waiting for the specifics of how romney plans on bringing back the manufacturing jobs. We need to get back to producing goods, and if romney doesn’t put fair trade above the taxing mularky, we’ll dump him too.

I agree public sector unions are a problem, but so are some of the private sector ones. Why do you think that plastic car in your driveway costs so much? Some high school dropout with a GED put the door panels in for 42 bucks an hour and he has a guaranteed pension plan which GM pays for. When I was a contract electrician, If I had a job in CA, my company had to pay an apprentice electrician $36 an HOUR. Executives in BANKS in FL don’t make that much!

Romney should be ashamed with some old crappy made in Cina ball caps. I’m not sure why, except for when Barry gave Libyan rebels weapons they were mostly made in America, with some, probably used, to kill the American Diplomat and 3 others. Barry, a true believer in sharing goods with the made in America label. It’s fast and furious gone wild or more like Barry style. When Barry lies people tend to die. The boarder agent was, I think, first. the 4 in Bengazi, the cop hit by the presidental limo, and (not including hundreds of Mexicans who apparently don’t count to those of Mexican heritage who vote for O) who knows how many others. Barry is a real killing machine when it comes to Americans.

I am very confused why you think unions are more evil than china communists. Unions are a necessary evil if that is that you want to call it. do not call me liberal either, I am a republican. I just know a little more what is actually going on this just voting republican because of my firearms, or the fact that I do not believe in abortion. But then again, I miss the old america, before we lost all our unions. strong middle class = strong country. trickle down effect is not working for us, just your individual pocketbooks.

Sorry folks, but I agree with Godfather.1 on this point. I love all things The Blaze. However, the one area in which they are seriously lacking is proofreading, and I suggest that the powers that be make an investment in a few flesh-and-bone proofreaders rather than depending on spelling and grammar checkers, which can be notoriously inaccurate. I understand that when people type fast and their emotions run high “fat fingers” prevail, especially on comment boards (believe me, I know I have been guilty of same). However, those submitting articles and being paid for the written word should, as anybody producing a product, have a responsibility to make sure they are producing the best and most accurate work possible. Do we want to be viewed as illiterate know-nothings, as the progressive left would paint us? I think not. We know we are not, and though many of us would say they don’t care what others think, the truth is that details matter, and perception counts. Please, Mr. Baker…consider hiring a few proofreaders who are truly wordsmiths, people who with a few strokes of the keyboard could turn an article with excellent content into a truly polished piece of journalism. The improvement in product quality will be more than worth the investment.

There is no difference and both are well made out of cotton except the Chineese people are just trying to make a living, not get rich like the union shops here. Also, all those Apple I-Pads and I-Phones are made in China and I don’t hear anyone complaining about that. Most College kids have all I-Phones made to date.

Indeed the left will stop at no level of manipulation, slander and fabrciation to demonize Romney. They cannot attack him directly so all that is left is the fabrication of anything they can in the hopes enough of it will tarnish his image and cause voters to assume ‘there has to be something going on here.”
