Former Head of Democrats Abroad in Israel and DNC Delegate Now Campaigning for Romney

Meet Bryna Franklin Former Head of Democrats Abroad Israel Now Campaigning for Romney and Republican Jewish Coalition

Screen shot from new Republican Jewish Coalition ad

Eighty-year-old Bryna Franklin says she’s never voted anything but Democrat from the time she could vote. In fact, she was so committed to her party she once headed the Israel branch of Democrats Abroad and was a delegate to the 1992 Democratic National Convention. But the faith in her party has been shaken during the four years that Barack Obama has been president, and she has decided – for the first time in her life – to vote Republican.

Franklin, who now lives in Jerusalem, is the star of the latest Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) ad urging American Jews to vote for Mitt Romney for president. In the ad that’s running this week in four swing states, she criticizes President Obama’s Israel policy:

The relationship changed almost immediately when President Obama became elected. He went to Egypt, he didn’t come to Israel […]

There was never daylight between Israel and the United States, between the United States and Israel. This is a new phenomenon that, it means there’s changing. That special relationship does not exist […]

Forget that you voted Democratic since you were knee-high to a grasshopper. I did too. My message to American Jews is to join me, Bryna Franklin, former chairperson of Democrats Abroad Israel and a delegate to the 1992 Democratic National Convention to switch sides and vote for Mitt Romney for president.

Meet Bryna Franklin Former Head of Democrats Abroad Israel Now Campaigning for Romney and Republican Jewish Coalition

With the backdrop of Jerusalem’s Old City behind her, Franklin urges Jewish American voters: “Forget that you voted Democratic since you were knee-high to a grasshopper.”

The Missouri native also penned an op-ed in the Jerusalem Post published Monday night in which she writes:

In all of my 80 years, I have never before voted for a Republican for president. But this time around, I am not only proudly voting for Mitt Romney, but feel compelled to encourage others to do the same.

I grew up in a Reform Jewish family in Missouri, and came of age politically as a proud Democrat due to the inspiration of my native-son president, Harry Truman. I have been involved in Democratic Party politics for many years in both America and Israel, including serving as vice chairperson of the Franklin County Democratic Central Committee in Missouri.

It is precisely because of my belief in the longtime ideals of the Democratic Party that I feel the responsibility to speak out now.

Why? First, because we ask in each presidential cycle, “Are we better off now than we were four years ago?” This year, the answer is a resounding “NO!” But even more troubling, in so many ways, President Barack Obama has betrayed the ideals of the great Democratic Party. He is a poor successor to Truman’s legacy.

Franklin slams Obama for being in her words “so fiscally irresponsible” in running up trillion-dollar deficits every year; insufficiently tackling unemployment; for being “a weak leader,” not taking on Syrian President Hafez Assad and for abandoning former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

But her main issue with the president is her assessment that Obama has singled out Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for criticism. She writes:

Nowhere has President Obama failed to live up to Democratic ideals more than in his relationship with democratic Israel. From his creation of “daylight” between our countries to constant public criticism of Israeli policy – does Obama do this to any other country? – Obama has allowed severe deterioration of our special relationship just as Israel and the world face extreme danger.

President Obama’s open hostility to Israel’s prime minister, and his insulting true feelings caught on an open microphone, indicate antipathy towards the citizens of Israel. Obama’s administration does not even maintain symbolic gestures: at the recent opening of the United Nations Assembly, the United States sat and listened to the address by the president of Iran, yet Ambassador Rice was absent during the entire presentation by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. This wasn’t lost on the leaders of Israel’s enemies.

Coming from Missouri, I take immense pride that President Truman had the courage, conviction and moral compass to recognize the nascent state of Israel. By comparison, President Obama has steered our relationship to an abysmal low.

As a result of her disappointment in Obama, Franklin says she sees “no choice but to switch sides” and vote for Mitt Romney for president “who better embodies our Democratic ideals.”

The Republican Jewish Coalition says the television ad featuring Bryna Frankin is running in Florida, Nevada, Ohio, and Pennsylvania through Election Day and is part of the group’s “My Buyers Remorse” initiative which invites those who voted for Obama in 2008 to submit videos about their disappointment in the president.

Here is the RJC ad featuring Bryna Franklin:

This is one brave lady. The more I hear stories like this it seems like a November victory for the nation. I can only imagine the nasty vile that’s going to be hurled at Mrs. Franklin from the tolerant democrats. Remember Tia Love and Stacey Dash, or any other person the democrats think should carry the party water. I hope the Jewish voter really considers what’s at stake for their state and people if they vote Obama.

George Washington predicted this in regards to the party system… loyalty to the party… not to our country.

I’ve always been a republican because they hold my values… not because I’ve always been a republican.

The modern day democrat party is pathetic… it’s the exact opposite of what it used to stand for… “ask not what your country can do for you”… has turned into “your country has to do everything for you”.

Pathetic to see all the little birds whining and chirping with their mouths open wanting mamma govt to feed them more.

JFK brought about sweeping ACROSS THE BOARD tax cuts that he said and I quote “would result in more money being in the hands of job creators which in turn would result in more jobs being created”. He actually slashed “taxes for the rich” more than anyone else’s.

The exact opposite is true of Obama he wants to raise taxes on the job creators… and claim this will create jobs.

What a load of horse manure and the average modern day democrat is to lazy and apathetic to think past the end of their nose… all they know is they want their “free stuff”… and Barry promises to give it to them.

Once again pathetic. How any self respecting man can still be a part of this looking for a handout, cry baby, jealous, envious, race baiting, anti-American sentiment is beyond my comprehension.

Considering the rich paid 90% in federal taxes during that time period it wouldn’t be hard to offer the biggest tax break in history…but don’t let the difference between 9% (mitt’s 2011 effective tax rate) and 90% (the countries effective tax rate in the sixties) get in your way of minipulating the facts. You guys don’t seem to be very good at math anyway. Then they were only reduced to 70%. If we had 70% tax rate we wouldn’t have a deficit. In addition under Reagan they were 50%. Whats that you say? Lets go back to the old days like you want. Only I don’t think they’re quite like you seem to remember.
As for your pathetic comments, The only thing pathetic I see is your whining about what adds up to a fraction of your tax money going to the needy…our fellow Americans! Now how about you tell me what a patriot you are and what have you done for your country lately other than bash our sitting President.

Very well said Obrien871. My own awakening began on 9/11/01. I was a proud, lifelong Democrat up until then. But I began to see small lies by Dems after the unity of 9/11 started to wear off. It wasn’t right. But the Democrats took those little lies and doubled down on them and made them bigger. Then they began to build whole false realities based on this bed of lies and then it got thicker and denser. Then it became simply disgusting. I did not leave my party. It left me. I won’t be a part of such a huge body of fabrication, lies, dishonesty and well just plain evil. They can go to hell where they belong.

The Tea Party is the new Democratic Party. They embody the principles of personal freedom like the ‘old’ Democrats used to do and by proximity, the Republicans do too. Although I still do not trust their old guard. But they are being replaced and absorbed like the evil Progressives have done to the Democrat party. The old guard Republicans are being slowly replaced by the new Conservatives. Until that fully happens, I won’t be completely satisfied. But in the meantime Romney is a very good and honest man with sincere intentions and he says “us” and “we” instead of “I”, “I”, “I”, “I”, “I”, “I” like that self absorbed, narcissistic, communist, Muslim, pathological liar Hussein Obama. I am on the edge of my seat to see the reconstruction of America as directed by Mitt Romney!

And yes, how could an intelligent Jew ever vote for that S.O.B. B.O. anyh

You know, we’ve read Rules for Radicals too and we know how to ‘community organize’ as well. Why do you still bother? You guys have already lost. You had two years of complete Democrat control. How did you waste it? With an attempt to take over 1/6 of the US economy, drown the private sector in crippling rules and regulations, cripple the energy sector, rack up more debt than in all of human history, and bring the economy to a state of perpetual recession. Congratulations. You and your “facts” have so much credibility. Your facts are about as accurate and as relevant as your stewardship of the country. That would be nada, zero, zip, the subset of nothing. The left are nothing but schemers, liars and destroyers and your time is up. Oh, no, you are going to lose your high powered, high paying $8/hr job at Media Matters. I cry for you.

Watch and learn? You mean like the last time trickle down economics was on full display. Learning is something you and your friends should do. There is plenty of history to pull from and none of it is good for your side. If romney gets into office he will just ride the work already done and claim the credit until the slide begins again. I run two successful businesses after a successful 5 star hotel career so I know a little something about business. romneys business ventures are not that impressive. What is impressive is how he skirts the law with his own personal finances. I would explain a couple to you but I’m not sure I have the time, desire nor do you have the capacity
You said “drown the private sector in crippling rules and regulations, cripple the energy sector,” Name me a couple of these rules you speak of so I don’t think your just parroting the whining gas and oil companies that are reporting record profits. Whats funny is your about to vote for what you fear most. romney is bought and paid for. why do you think he keeps changing his position? He is also backed by the very people who gave us the Bushs’, karl rove and his ilk. If you trust them over Obama then you got issues.

You see, trickledown economics is a huge success even with its left wing moniker of “trickle down”. Supply side economics, baby. That’s the ticket. Regan was the greatest of modern presidents. Far greater than anything, and I mean anything, that has come after. He set the stage for the dot com boom that the philandering liar Clinton rode for eight years. The Great Pretender will go down in history as vastly worse than even the worst modern president- Jimmy Carter. In fact, I believe that Obama should be prosecuted for treason and it may yet happen with the Libya scandal. I pray for it.

I find it very hard to believe that you are a successful businessman. If it is not just more Media Matters fabrication, then you gotta give even greater kudos to the United States of America. Where else can even deluded Left wingers prosper in business- despite themselves? I am not going to go tit for tat with the likes of you over your fabricated, so called “facts”. I can come up with “facts” to support any position I choose. That’s easy and boring and it doesn’t make me right, either. The ‘fact’ is that you have no common sense and don’t understand the evil that your party has become and so arguing with you is futile. We are defeating you morons instead. That is a much more satisfying endeavor. :)

As I said before, Romney is a transitional leader. But he has integrity, heart, skill, laser focus and the ability and intention to repair this economy which your idiot president has practically brought to its knees. Watch and see. Business (real business :) is just waiting in the wings for a Romney victory to release its billions of investment capital. There will be an immediate surge after The Liar in Chief is defeated. There will still be hard times and difficult decisions due to the destruction your party has wrought and to a lesser degree, previous Republicans. But it will be a happy day indeed when I don’t have to listen any longer to the constant stream of lies issuing forth from the pie hole of that *ss hole now occupying the W.H.

Steve. I won’t judge this woman’s patriotism. But It is curious how people can chose dual citizenship and then claim to be “patriotic Americans”. They can’t have it both ways. Patriotic Americnas chose to live in the United States. I am an Irish American and I know Irish Americans who bought dual Irish American citizenship back in the 1970′d and 80′s . Almost everyone I knew who did this couldn’t remember when their ancestors came from Ireland to the USA. I condemnded what they did then as a slap in the face of the country that gave their ancestors and descendents everything the Emerald Isle couldn’t which was prosperity, a decent way of life, and freedom. I wish dual citzienship would be banned. The sooner the better. Next step would not allowing people who chose to have dual citizenship living in the USA or living in other countries the right to vote. Even those who temporarily work overseas.

I also live in Israel, 4 miles north of Jerusalem and two or three miles to the east of the Atarot industrial area in Jerusalem. In a normal country, I would be in an inner suburb of the capital city. The country is finally waking up to this. For some reason I am also from Missouri, one county over from Franklin Co. in St. Louis Co. And her last name is Franklin. That is cute. But I never had the issues that she did voting Democrat all her life perhaps because I came of age when the party swung sharply left going from Hubert Humphrey to Marxist McGovern. So I have voted for Reagan twice, for Bob Dole in 1996, and in 2008 I had the sense to see the Son of Perdition coming by voting for McCain/ Palin. I did vote for Bush Sr. in 1988, but since then I had the sense not to vote for a Bush even if I wrote in my brother in law in 2000 when it was Bush Jr. against the environmentalist wacko from Tennessee. So I never had this woman’s issues with voting for Republicans. Yet, Missouri is safe Romney right now. The big issue is getting Missourians to vote for an ignoramus like Todd Akin. He will likely lose, and sadly perhaps he should lose. and to think because of his obstinacy, Republicans will not win the Senate. He should have dropped out the evening after displaying his ignorance about the workings of a woman’s body when she is raped.

I voted absentee for Akin precisely because McCaskill is awful. Personally I thought I liked him. He served St. Louis and St. Charles Counties as a Congressman for 12 years. But when he made that claim about a woman that is raped, I recoiled. He had two or three other Republican primary candidates who lost to him who would be leading McCaskill right now.

Jews in America need to wake up. Exaggerated abortion and gay rights are not the be-all, end-all. The problem with American Jews is that so many of them are secular. The Orthodox tend to be more politically conservative. Jews in Israel don’t have the luxury of following avante garde idealogical fantasies that cannot work. Jews in America need to realize that American now is just as under siege as Israel, albeit in a different way. Our enemies are more subtle, but nonetheless no less dangerous. This is a defining election, and may be critical to our very survival. Jews need to prioritize and check with their consciences before they vote Democrat yet again.

if she cares about Israel so much maybe she should focus her efforts on getting another party in power in Israel and not campaigning to get Americans resources sent over there when many Americans don’t have a house boat and suv or truck. Zionists are fine but when they suck American resources to do their work than i have a problem with them.

@blanco5, Keep in mind who you’re talking with. He claims he’s all concerned about those 8 newsletters out of thousands, RP didn’t write 20 years ago, disavowed, took responsibility for and apologized for. Yet he actually posted that he thought it was OK to kill ALL the Muslim CHILDREN because they’d grow up evil. In reality he hates RP because RP doesn’t share is genocidal blood lust.

When you side with your friends (Israel), you are putting their interests ahead of your own. That’s what friends do! They are surrounded by their enemies. We are not!

Ron Paul is wrong on so many things, and his opinion on Israel is one of those things! End of discussion!

“When you side with your friends (Israel), you are putting their interests ahead of your own.”

According to Ayn Rand this statement encompasses everything that’s wrong with America today.

Ayn Rand is not the end all and be all.

The bible states, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13

justangry: “Who wants friends that openly call for ‘shared sacrifice’ (collectivism)?”

      1. Never heard Netenyahu calling for a “shared sacrifice”. Please provide a citation.

      2. Shared sacrifice in itself is not collectivism. Institutionalized and enforced shared sacrifice is.
Example1: Town is flooding and you go out and with your neighbors place sand bags to protect property that may not be yours–shared sacrifice.
Example2: You are prompted to go on subotnik* and if you don’t, your kids may get minus points for their future university application–collectivism.

*Subotnik was a “voluntary” (don’t you dare not volunteer!) work on saturdays on community projects in commie countries.

It’s quite possible you have a head start considering I’ve only been at it about two weeks. I wouldn’t know that by your vindictive remarks. What exactly do you disagree with? The last time I asked you to specify you came back with a smart-ass fish fry remark. I’d assume if you thought highly of objectivism, you’d help someone along that was just getting started rather than being a tw*t waffle…. Are you a values voter? Just a hunch.

That is so true. We still have a good number of union workers around here. Those with jobs that did manage to survive the Clinton years. I’ve heard a number of them complaining about 0bama the past couple of years, and hear that many plan to vote Romney this year. I’m not that concerned for their votes, because this is a very red state. But, they will rush back to the next Dem-wit who runs again.
I hope and pray that many more of the Jewish people will see things the way Ms Franklin does.
