Greek Authorities Delay Austerity Vote, Warn There Will be ‘Chaos’ Unless Deal Reached

Greece Delays Austerity Vote Until an Agreement Can be Reached

ATHENS, Greece (TheBlaze/AP) — Greece’s coalition government will delay a vote on major new austerity measures by another week, warning Tuesday there would be financial “chaos” if a deal is not reached.

Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras told reporters that the austerity measures, worth €13.5 billion ($17.4 billion), would be submitted to parliament next week, as the three parties in government continue to disagree over new savings demanded by international bailout lenders.

Stournaras denied local media reports that the bill could be broken up to ease objections by a left-wing junior coalition partner.

“All of the (draft legislation) will be submitted next week — I think there is no other way to do it,” he said.

Greece’s bailout creditors want the austerity package passed if they are to hand over more loans that Greece needs to avoid bankruptcy.

Greece’s conservative Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is at odds with the Democratic Left party, a coalition partner, which is threatening to vote against the new austerity measures unless labor reforms included in them are scrapped.

Samaras formed a coalition with the traditional rival Socialists and the Democratic Left after general elections in June.

In a statement, the prime minister said he had “exhausted all the available time” to try and reach a consensus.

“The problem is not whether we (introduce) this measure or that measure. On the contrary: It is what we would do if no agreement is reached and the country is led into chaos.”

Unemployment in Greece has topped 25 percent, with rapidly worsening poverty that has prompted the Democratic Left to harden its position.

“There are certain issues for us that are fundamental – like labor issues,” Theodoros Margaritis, a senior member of the Democratic Left party, told private Skai television.

“The dilemma is with Mr. Samaras. Does he want a left-wing party in his government or not? Does he want our consent on certain issues or does he want to proceed alone? If he wants, he may proceed alone.”

Cracks in Greece’s coalition government are likely to be tested late Tuesday when lawmakers are set to vote on a privatization bill.

The new law would give the government broader powers to privatize public utilities, but is facing growing dissent from deputies in the Socialist party and Democratic Left.

Anyone surprised that they “postponed” the vote until after our elections?

I still do not understand the mind set that sees government as the producer of wealth and not a service WE purchase with the money WE earn through the goods and services WE produce? Why cant these people who things this way understand basic money management. You can’t spend more than you earn.. If you want more DO MORE/LEARN MORE/or give up one thing so you can get something else. One thing Obama has shown is the failure of the Communist/ Marxist/ Progressive/ Socialist ideology/values. Their mindset embraces the height of human selfishness, hate, and prejudice.

Damned if we do, damned if we don’t. I don’t want Obama to win. But I don’t have rose colored glasses that everything is going to be ok if Romney wins. It is just a slower journey down the same path.

Government is not our problem. Our problem is the American people!!! Can we fix that? Not peacefully. What makes any of us think that “takers” are suddenly going to have an epiphany and become “makers?” Those are very low odds. Make that impossible odds. Do we think that people who put wants ahead of needs are going to give up the fake nails, cell phone, mocha fancy coffee, jewelry, and free school lunch AND breakfast for their child so their kid can have medical or dental care. No! They’ve been conditioned their whole life that they are entitled to wants before needs and that its the government’s responsibility to provide it.

CIVIL WAR IS COMING. Right now is the time of peace and safety to get ready for what’s coming. The absolute worst place to be is going to be in the city. Get out of the city and get self sufficient.

This is just crazy talk. There is no “damned” unless you vote for Obama. Who stands condemned already as the Biggest Traitor ever! It doesn’t take a genius to see where Obama and the Lefties want to take this country. Down. Down. Down. So the alternative is a no brainer. Vote for the Other Guy! Ya know? the One who knows how to make money in the Private SEctor and Keep it? yeah. That guy. duh.

Eventually there will be a reckoning between the takes and the makers. But I want to delay that conflict for as long as possible. When it comes, the society we have built will crumble, but there is still time to prepare people for that to happen. The longer it takes, the more people may become dependent on a government that won’t be able to sustain itself, but conversely, the longer we have, the more people can prepare for that government falling apart. A few extra minutes before the ship sinks could be the difference between a difficult but controlled situation and absolute panic.

“War is never avoided, it is merely delayed to the benefit of one side or the other.”

this is an obvious example of the failure of leftist doctrine. the government told their citizens that they had a “right” to free stuff. now, they want to take some of the free stuff (their rights) away. of course, there will be “chaos” no matter what they do. take note…this is exactly what’s going to happen here and sooner than you think. prepare.

I suspect that we will see martial law long before we see a solution in Greece. How long has this been going on? Clearly, they can’t/won’t come up with a solution.
Unfortuately I see us going down the same path without leadership.

The Sad thing is that Romney is not going to be able to stop us from going down the same path. He is not going to cut any spending. How is that going to save us? We are the same way, we think we are going to be able to have our golden parachutes; our well is just as dry.

It won’t stop it, the real question is whether the hit is going to be crippling or a death blow to the United States. Besides, I trust Mitt better with handling the wreckage than I do Obama. Either way, when the inevitable strike comes, it is going to hurt, a lot.

Pathetic how can these people still think they can get the golden parachute when the well is bone dry and keep their jobs along with it. These people are in denial so bad it’s amazing sorry if there is no money how do you expect to keep a job and still get benefits.

Will be chaos? What do they call what is going on now? Business as usual? Normal? We could be headed there if Obama somehow wins next week. Get out there and vote for Romney people, please.
