What Did Ghost Hunters Hear in ‘Arlington’s Original Cemetery’ in Texas? Listen Yourself

Although Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va., often gets the spotlight, there’s another cemetery bearing the same name hundreds of miles away that is seeing some attention thanks to the Halloween season.
As CBS DFW reports, in a secluded corner of “Arlington’s Original Cemetery” where many of the city’s founders are laid to rest, there are some who believe there is not much rest going on.

βI havenβt been to a cemetery yet where I havenβt been able to pick up on something or get something recorded or something like that,β said ghost hunter Clay Coleman, according to CBS.
The ghost hunters taking a recorder into the cemetery weren’t going in at night either, but broad daylight. Fellow ghost hunterΒ Martin Bravo said the spirits “use this box to speak to us.β
The recorders pick up phrases like “It’s haunted back here,” “Do you want to play?” and “very slowly.”
Watch the report with some of the sounds picked up:
As Coleman pointed out in the report, it is “counter-intuitive” that “the soul be in a place where the bodies are buried [...] But for some reason they are.β

Posted on October 30, 2012 at 1:40pmAgreed. The human brain is great at finding patterns, to the point where it will try to find patterns where they don’t exist.
Ever notice that if they play the audio BEFORE telling you what to hear, that you have a really hard time making out the specific words? But once you’re told what to hear, you begin to realize that, “Wow, it’s really saying that!”

Really? I am surprised that a man of science would be so dismissive of a record of thousands of years of human experience and belief. Believe it or not, I would hope that you would not set aside such a valuable record so easily. BTW – any person of logic will admit that science is open ended – i.e. that man will never know everything.

The Qur’an, the Hindu scriptures, the Ancient Greek and Roman writings, the Egyptian religious writings, etc. are all well over a thousand years old, but that doesn’t make them accurate. I’m sure you’d agree. It’s not how long they’ve been around or when they were written, it’s whether they have evidence to back it up. If reality supported the bible, science would be all for it. But reality has not only made the supernatural claims of the bible seem impossible or unrepeatable, there’s quite a bit of evidence that those things didn’t happen in the past either. If God had caused a global flood, there would have been quite a bit of evidence showing it. Likewise, if Atlas was holding the Earth on his shoulders, we should have found him when we went into space.

Posted on October 30, 2012 at 3:12pmThis is like sighting aliens. There are thousands of people the world over who have witnessed UFOs. These are just average people, seeing similar things at different times and places. The question is, are all of these people nuts? Do these people starve for attention so much they need to make up stuff that makes them look crazy? It seems more likely that people who claim to be abducted, sight UFOs, see ghosts, or even bigfoot are experiencing something the question is why.

Believe it or not, there is significant historical significance to the Bible. Even if you believe it to be false, I find it troubling that you would dismiss so easily it’s relevance to understanding humanity. BTW – much of our scientific knowledge has come from people of faith… so maybe you should try to understand where they are coming from.

Posted on October 31, 2012 at 2:56pm@ Chatikh, p8riot is right. There is a wealth of physical evidence supporting biblical accounts. AND, you are correct in saying that just because something was written years ago doesn’t necessarily make it true. There must be more than one first hand reference to an account to help make it legitimate. The bible has many, the ancient historian Josephus being one of them. If you REALLY desire to find the truth, I would highly recommend Lee Strobel’s “Case for Christ”. If you don’t truly desire the truth, you may continue to spout your “beliefs”, but does that really improve your life at all?
Just asking…

Morons didn’t even know that the EARTH has a magnetic field of 0.5G and depending on which direction you are facing that reading will vary between -0.5 – 0.5 G (or even higher if you are standing near anything that is Ferromagnetic (magnetic metals) which is ALOT of things….

I asked her once why she watches these shows, she said she liked to believe that my great-grandmother was still around. That sounds really unhealthy, in my opinion. I’m worried that if someone else or I died, she won’t move on because she thinks we’re still around. I’m trying my hardest to show that ghosts and such don’t exist so that doesn’t happen.

Posted on October 30, 2012 at 11:45amThe Bible said absent from the body, present with the Lord. But, I have to wonder, since it also says he gathers those who died in Christ, maybe it’s the ones who died BEFORE Christ, or who believed in God, but hadn’t heard of Christ? I do know, even as a Christian, I have experienced things I couldn’t explain.

Posted on October 30, 2012 at 12:12pmSince none of us on here has died yet (right?), no one is an “authority”. However, the Bible (2 Cor. 5:8) clearly states that to be “absent of the body is to be with the Lord.”
1 Thess. 4 16-17 says “For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.”
So, the interpretation is that when we die, the body and soul are separated. The body goes in the ground and becomes dust. The soul goes to heaven to be with the Lord. On the day of Christ’s return, the bodies will be resurrected (as Christ’s body was) and become new, glorified bodies in which the souls will then return. We who are still on the earth will be taken after the dead and caught up in the air with them. Our bodies will be transformed as well, but our souls will remain since we never experienced death and the separation of the two.
Again…just an interpretation. I believe in Angels and Demons. I believe the Demons job is to trick the living that if you do something wrong in this life, you’ll remain to haunt cemeteries, bars and hotels. The TRUTH is that we have all sinned and can not earn our way into heaven. Only by accepting Jesus Christ as the Son of God and BELIEVING in Him can you find eternal life (

In a funeral sermon, Joseph Smith declared that the spirits of righteous people who have died βare not far from us, and know and understand our thoughts, feelings, and motions, and are often pained therewithβ (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 326). Other latter-day prophets have made similar statements. President Ezra Taft Benson said: βSometimes the veil between this life and the life beyond becomes very thin. Our loved ones who have passed on are not far from usβ (in Conference Report, Apr. 1971, p. 18; or Ensign, June 1971, p. 33). President Brigham Young said: βWhere is the spirit world? It is right hereβ (Discourses of Brigham Young, p. 376).

Posted on October 30, 2012 at 5:15pmWell most people don’t want to believe until they have an experience. Often when it happens, some then think they are seeing things, unless, if lucky, and other(s) say they just witness it too, especially if they reveal their experience first and their experience is the same. This has happened. Believe me, I know. I am certain, well unless, as some say, it is a mass hallucination. Sightings are numerous and have been reported for centuries. Many are hoaxes, some can be explained as natural anomalies that give the illusion of spooks, then there are those sightings that have no other explanation other than strange. Believe it or not.

Posted on October 30, 2012 at 10:10amIt was a few years ago during their live Halloween special. Grant’s jacket was yanked by a “ghost” which was clearly fishing line that his partner in crime detaches while looking for something. My wife had the opinion that it was so badly staged that she thinks that they might have been bullied into it by executives. Since I have found lots of underhanded accounts about the Ghost Hunters program, how badly they treat people, how things are staged.. it was very disappointing.. the early shows were pretty good, and they got a lot of credibility with me when they would tell people, “We didn’t find anything.. this electrical problem here is causing this, and this plumbing problem here is causing this..” The later episodes seem more contrite, patronizing, and fake, especially when they add the “turn this flashlight on and off for yes and no, spirit” BS. So easily faked. Who knows, maybe Jason and Grant were always con artists, or maybe they were corrupted by the system. Either way, I’ve been turned off to the program for sometime because of their shenanigans. http://cnyskeptics.wordpress.com/2008/11/13/ghost-hunters-halloween-hoax/

Posted on October 30, 2012 at 10:28amOkay, let’s engage in a little logic argument here. IF it is possible to record and/or communicate with people from beyond the grave, how is it the attention whores and busybodies in life are suddenly stunned into relative silence when dead?
“Listen, Mrs. Kravitz, we’ll let you be a ghost, but you gotta keep your trap shut… or at least restrained… when the breathers are around. And there is NO gossiping allowed beyound the grave. Think you can handle that? If not, it’s off to the final, final resting place for you. Right now, it’s that landfill in TX where Atari buried alll of those E.T. games for the 2600 back in the ’80s. Sound like a good time? No? Then you’ll keep your trap shut and stop trying to talk with every Tom, Dick and Mary with a ghost box in his or her hand! Have some pride, woman! You’re dead. Have you no respect for yourself?!? But it is okay to give a sensual massage on occasion.”
And that’s how it goes down. I’ll say one thing for the dead: They have one helluva union that suffers no fools or scabs. Or something like that.

I work with a young man who is a wresting fan… and doesn’t believe in spooks. However, I also work with two women who openly profess they see ghosts on a regular basis. Both have a history of not being able to maintain a steady relationship with the opposite sex and are also desperate to “fit in”, but tend to also be very truculent (in a WONDERFUL, passive-aggressive manner) and hypersensitive. I’m pretty sure neither watches pro wrestling. The glaring difference betwixt the two is one drinks (and is allegedly a swinger) and the other doesn’t drink…. oh, and probably sees sex as the devil’s and I’m also certain doesn’t poop. She is THAT perfect and untouchable.
When your best friends are dead people only you can see, what does that say about the person in question? Hmmm… It ain’t easy bein’ “special.”
