White House Denies it Nixed Benghazi Intervention

On Tuesday, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s issued some damning remarks in which he claimed that two news outlets might have emails proving the Obama White House was in fact the one that gave the “stand down” orders and chose not intervene when asked for help during the Benghazi siege. Now, the White House is firing back.

“Neither the President nor anyone in the White House denied any requests for assistance in Benghazi during the attack,” National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor told The Hill in an email.

Gingrich told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren on Tuesday that he’d been told by a “fairly reliable” U.S. senator that no less than news outlets have emails “from the national security adviser’s office telling a counterterrorism group to stand down.”

Gingrich did qualify that the information was merely speculative thus far, clarifying, “I want to be clear, it’s a rumor.” If true, however, the Contract With America architect suggested that it certainly could assist Mitt Romney curry favor with voters in Tuesday’s upcoming election. Gingrich stated:

“If that’s true, and I’ve been told this by a fairly reliable U.S. senator, if that’s true and that comes out in the next day or two, I think it raises enormous questions about the president’s role, Tom Donilon, the National Security Adviser’s role, the Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta, who has taken it on his own shoulders, that he said don’t go. And I think that’s very dubious, given that the president said he had instructions they are supposed to do everything they could to secure American personnel.”

The former House Speaker added that the topic of Libya will likely resurface in the coming days.

“I think you are going to see this come back tomorrow and the next day,” he said.

  Pat Tillman was made a hero. The President could not say that he wasn’t a hero, that he was killed by friendly fire.
  
  So too the President can not say the dead servicemen were not heroes; that they disobeyed orders and got themselves killed.
  
  Nor only is this news demoralizing to Americans but it lets our enemies know that our ground troops are undisciplined and rebellious.
  
  Remember that for days all you Keys believed that Embassy security forces were purposely unarmed. You will fall for any lie, just like the ones the opposition groups are spinning now.
  
  Our best military strategist were on top of the situation. If the dead had obeyed orders there would probably have been no loss of life.

  1st, There has not been a war in centuries without “Friendly Fire” casualties.
  During the time of the English civil war people took to wearing colored sashes so they could try to figure out who was who.
  
  2nd, Just because you are killed by friendly fire does not make a person less of an hero or brave. If there was only 1 Taliban shooting with a pea shooter, things would be pretty clear. But if there is a heavy volume of fire, it is hard to get the lay of the land & where everyone is, it is hard to maneuver & to do so is brave. It is much easier to hunker down & freeze in place.
  
  What are you going to propose. Say anyone hit by friendly fire not get a purple heart? There have been times when American units have been saved by & only by artillery fire & strafing that came “Danger Close”. No doubt some Americans picked up some shrapnel from American ordinance.

  This is an anti-colonialist president. His idea of “everything he could do” was to ask the Libyians to save our Ambassador. When all of this shakes out, that’s what you are going to learn. It wasn’t that he did nothing, it was that he told our forces to stand down so the Libyians could save us. And they didn’t.
  
  And the real reason he was so cold to Ty Wood’s father was not that he was embarassed – it was that he was angry. He was angry that Woods made him look bad by doing what the Libyians were supposed to do.
  
  What Woods did was Medal of Honor level valor – and then some. And I hope that Congress will take appropriate action.

  @hiswill – The emails aren’t really the trail to Obama. At that level, they operate on a whole different communication network. There is a seperate military/intelligence network on which this message would have been sent – and we haven’t seen any of that traffic yet. Bottom line is that the President HAD to know. That is the protocol. I planned and executed non-permissive embassy evacuations when I was in the Marines. When the balloon goes up, you launch. Gen. Ham has made it sound like someone didn’t ask for help – that’s not the way it works. SOmeone had to STOP the help (and he knows it). My personal theory is that that “someone” was Obama, and he did so because he wanted to give the Libyians their chance to save the evil Americans.

When does asking a lying coward for answers make any sense to a logical man? It seems to me that we are asking a proven liar with zero credibility for the truth. If their credibility is in question to begin with……then a rational person must ask…..why the hell are we looking to “them” in trying to discover the truth? If you ask 100% of the people in prison if they are innocent or guilty, I would guess that 98% of them would tell you they didn’t do the crime they are accused of. My point being why the hell are we asking the criminals if they are innocent or guilty? Of course they will say they are innocent of all charges. This only makes sense in the world of progressivism.

This is just like the movie “Clear & Present Danger”.

Except the president isn’t white & the president is beloved by the main stream press.

The Democrats can stonewall this all they want. The longer they do the more hated the Democrat party becomes in the military. they are 1 to 2% of the population. But there base of support vial relatives, friends, etc is much larger than that.

The Democrats are doomed to see their influence wane due to their illicit shenanigans.

  I think it is more akin to the pre 9-11-01 film “Rules of Engagement” In which the U.S. embassy in Yemen is overrun by terrorists. The President’s national security advisor destroys a video clearly showing that the women and children in the crowd had weapons and were firing at the marines who were trying to get everyone out. Instead he wants to scapegoat the marine colonel, played by Samuel L. Jackson, by having him undergo a court martial. Al Gore’s college roomate,Tommy Lee Jones, gets him off with a career ending slap on the wrist. It’s really a good flick, made even more relevant by the fact that the screenplay comes from a novel by current Senator Jim Webb (D) VA, who is retiring after one term, with the balance of power in the Senate possibly being decided next week depending on who will be his successor.

If it’s true that news outlets have the emails, lets report it. If it’s just a rumor, let’s get more concrete evidence before writing a story. I love The Blaze, but reporting on rumor alone isn’t good journalism. The Blaze needs to stay legit as a reliable news source. The country needs reliable news storys

My question is: The people that were evacuated from Benghazi, where are they? Why are they so quiet? What is the hell is going on?

  Reading between the lines. Obummer never gave a “stand down” order, but neither did he give a go ahead order. The three stand downs most likely came somewhere below Obummer in the chain of command as a direct result of Obummer not responded to give the “go ahead” order. That’s my take.

  the verb is DENIED which makes sense if during the attack is the 1st attack when Sean Smith was killed, he died so quickly he never had time to do more than hit the panic button. it may have been unnecessary to DENY a request for help: the WH & those looking at the video would know. these people know how to lie in such a way that everything they do is in plain sight & obfuscates. @Barbeque’s questions are valid. as is wondering, why was Ambassador Stevens killed.
  
  Sen. Gingrich just confirmed the “facility” was not a consulate. at this point, we only know bits & pieces we know bits of Stevens’ schedule but not what he actually did. we know Sean Smith was killed but do we really know how? we know Stevens was removed from the “facility” before or after he died but we don’t know when he died or how. we know Tyrone Woods & Glen Doherty were killed at 4 a.m. as they held off 200-ish attackers. but what more do we really know? those who were rescued ought to know what happened, they were there. where are they now? and what was Stevens’ doing that was so damaging, the DOS & WH decided to abandon him & why was he attacked on 9/11? we expect attacks on 9/11; we prepare for them. did they prepare for this attack in a different way? don’t know but I wouldn’t be surprised & think when we know the truth, 0 will be out of rea

If the Whitehouse/Administration denied any requests for assistance, as they contend, why don’t they tell us what happened, show the videos they were streaming and provide copies of all the e-mails? Why does President Obama respond to the simplest of questions?

We gave weapons to Libya through Amb. Stevens, they were looking to get them back, weapons went to Turkey to Syria to topple that government for Muslim Brotherhood and from Syria to Lebanon to be fired at Israel. And / or from Libya to Egypt through Sinai to Gaza to be fired at Israel. Either way or both ways weapons we provided are being used against our only friend(?) in the region. Obama’s poll numbers go up and he wins election. Explains why no help was sent or no guard was given other than locals, who left. Explains why he was there on Sept 11th. Explains how the blind sheikh would get back to Muslim Brotherhood. Explains the cover up and why one is needed to cover up weapons gone into bad hands worse than Fast and Furious here in States and to cover botched kidnapping! Were riots set up just for cover? My first question is, why does the Senator not have the same e-mails that the “news” media has? One would think that Congress has greater access to White House e-mails than the press. Why would a “Senator” tell Newt Gingrich and not come directly to the public with the information?

Once again this does not pass the smell test. I am tired of everyone telling lies or half truths. Show me the e-mails! The truth needs to be found!

  Well, the problem is that whatever the Administration releases, you and those who hate Pres. Obama will never be satisfied. Take for example this Gingrich story. He puts something out there, says that is may even be a rumor, then the Administration comes out and says “Yes, this is a rumor”. You still don’t believe them. You say you want the info they have, but aren’t satisfied when they say they don’t have what you want. This is crazy. What are they suppose to do – come up with emails and other info that doesn’t exist? I’m not saying there isn’t tangible information that they should release, but what I want to know is, will you believe the Administration if you don’t get what your looking for? It just might be that what you want from the Administration doesn’t exist.
