Keith Ellison: Voter ID Is Like ‘The Devil’

Representative Keith Ellison (D-MN) is generally known for two things: his Islamic faith, and his highly progressive worldview. And while no trace of Islamic theology has evinced itself recently in Ellison’s recent appearances, he certainly did an expert job blending religion and progressive politics in an interview where he likened supporters of Voter ID laws to followers of Satan.

“We gotta understand, when the devil comes back, he’s not gonna be red skinned and two horns and a tail,” Ellison told the host. “He’s gonna have a nice suit, he’s gonna talk real sweet, he’s gonna sound so reasonable, and just like this thing sounds reasonable, ‘Oh what’s wrong with having an ID?’ Well, nothing, but why should I lose my right to vote if I don’t have one?”

Of course, proponents of voter ID might justifiably counter that it’s Ellison himself who’s trying to sound reasonable even as he takes a toxic position on the issues. The ballot measure Ellison is denouncing, Minnesota Amendment 2, certainly doesn’t strip voters of their right to vote if they lack an ID. In fact, it includes a contingency for that situation, according to the website of the group supporting it:

It allows a voter without identification to cast a “provisional ballot” entitling the voter’s ballot to be counted once he or she can establish identification after the election. This will give voters without proper credentials a second chance to vote, when they would otherwise be turned away from the polls with no chance to vote under current laws.

Granted, it’s still possible to oppose the bill on the grounds that this promotes inefficiency. But the idea that this is a devil in a nice suit trying to cover up voter suppression would seem to require some qualifiers.

  Ok, so they don’t want to have to use an ID to vote huh? Voter ID is not intended to prevent anybody from voting. It is to prevent anybody from voting more than once. Alright, you don’t need one. Instead let’s take an image of everybody’s face when they vote, put it in a database and use facial recognition technology to make sure a person cannot vote more than once. Yeah, I know, pipe dream.   Have these idiots ever tried to vote in an election in another country? They NEVER would be eligible to vote. It is one of the greatest priviledges we have in America IF we are a citizen.   Yeah that’s right and pretty soon in GA they’ll have bio information including eye color etc. It’s much harder to get people to accept it with a Drivers License, but with your [perceived right to vote] it will be like taking candy from a baby, or at least a dork.

Ellison does not understand that people need to be responsible in many ways. One of them is being respoonsible enought to get an I.D. card, so you can vote. Is he saying that many Americans are too irresponsible, or too stupid, to be able to get an appropriate I.D. card? Maybe he’s worried that a voter’s I.D. would make it more difficult to cheat. Maybe he and “Stuart Smalley” wouldn’t have been elected, if Minnesota had a voter I.D. law.

Actually the whole scenario is of the devil. First people figured out if they make voting a right then they could vote themselves money, and benefits. Then people jumped ship back and forth wherever it’s beneficial to themselves. Now one side loves their money so much that they want voter I.D’s, but of course after that will come the personal information on the card, and then GPS tracking on it, and eye color info, and bio data to make sure it’s you. And all for the cause of the perceived good of the morons.

Voting is the most important right and responsibility in a democracy. And only qualified citizens should be the ones to have that right and that responsibility. You don’t lose your right to vote by not having a valid ID because nobody who is legally qualified to vote is denied a valid ID.

Democrats just know that voter fraud benefits them, and being the slime they are, they want to make sure that legitimate voters are effectively disfranchised by fraudulent votes that steal elections for Democrats.

ID is never a problem when “free” stuff is being handed out, no boo-hooing about those poor EBT card holders living on the dole who had to show some form of ID to get the keys to the free stuff locker.

Were they subjected to an unfair “tax” if they had to spend some gas money or bus fare to get to the welfare office? Or getting themselves to the free Obama-phone store?

The discouraging part is that the MSM buys this load of manure without question.

This is the most ridiculous argument I’ve ever heard. Would it work to drive a car? Open a bank account? THERE IS absolutely no good reason not to expect to know who is voting. ANYONE who refuses to identify themselves has a reason. They just may not be who they say they are ! I mean it’s not a secret that 1000′s if not 100′s of 1000′s of dead people are voting (someone goes into polls using deceased’s name) and if no one asks for ID, they vote!!
FACE IT, LIBERALS: IDS are required to buy medicine, drive, buy a home, everything important. States are offering to provide these ID’S free. SO? THERE IS ONLY ONE REASON that someone would not want to have VOTER ID…they want to cheat. PERIOD.

How about because we KNOW people that SHOULDN’T be voting ARE!!! And if you FORCE them to get an ID they will be less likely to cheat!!

If you care enough about voter ID laws to raise Cain over it, use some of that energy to get a (typically) Free State ID Card….

If you don’t care enough to do that, then you can’t tell me you care enough to vote…. You obviously don’t….

  We require people to have a valid ID to: Drive, Buy Cigarettes, Buy Alcohol, pick-up prescriptions, to get into a nightclub…. all of which are not as big of a deal as deciding who runs the government offices that decide the laws we all must abide by….
