What Do Your TV Shows Say About Your Politics? These Two Charts Might Surprise You (Part 2)
The following chart from BuzzFeed and Engage, a D.C.-based digital agency, illustrating the “politics of TV shows” holds some surprising (likely Romney voters watch Dr. Phil?) and not not-so-surprising (likely Obama voters just love, love, love “30 Rock”) results:
And here’s a completely unsurprising chart illustrating the network preferences of Romney and Obama supporters (likely Romney supporters prefer Fox? Likely Obama supporters prefer MSNBC? You don’t say!):
“The infographics use data from Engage’s Trendsetter app, a tool that cross-references polling data with influence and page ‘likes’ from Facebook,” BuzzFeed’s Ruby Cramer explains.
“Engage measures turnout by affinity toward politics and politicians, assuming that the more likely you are to ‘like’ a politician of any party on Facebook, the more probable it is you’ll vote on Nov. 6,” she adds.
Stay tuned. There are a lot more of these “politics of ____” infographs on the way.

Posted on November 2, 2012 at 4:13pmPretty accurate, except “The Walking Dead” defintely should be on the right. I know anectdotally but all of my family and friends who are conservative watch this show. Plus it is riddled with self-reliance, independence, hunting, guns, family values and support, etc. all conservative vaules.
Its also a nice gem among all polictically left slanted shows on TV this last decade. So many shows I started watching, usually because wife wanted to watch them, and at first liked them; soon I cannot watch anymore because the writers take a big swing left. Recent examples, Glee, The Office, Futurama, 60 minutes, Extreme Homemaker, etc.
I was worried season 1 with the Merryl character, and thought oh great here is the stereotype white lower middle class red neck to be used as punching bag. However the writers masterfully countered this with his brother Darryl who has similiar background, but shows common sense, charity, and understanding like most red necks from my youth. Darryl has his prejudice and experience, but he is not a just a straw man, but rather gets along with others regardless of race, but based rather on their character and what they provide to the group.

Posted on November 2, 2012 at 4:59pmGood observation Wiley.I think Daryl will ultimately be one of the best survivors of the series. He’s always been leary of people/strangers in general, and its a good quality when chaos is everywhere.Reading between the lines.

Posted on November 3, 2012 at 3:00amFrom my perspective all those shows you cited were left or far left from the get-go. Only one I’ve watched for any length of time was Futurama.

Posted on November 3, 2012 at 3:52amWiley, you sound like my husband! I agree. “The Walking Dead” should be on the right side of the screen. My daughter and I Watched the first two seasons of “Glee”. My husband hated it. He’d walk in the room, roll his eyes, and walk out. He was right. “Glee” is trash. My 18 year old daughter now rolls her eyes at it! I am a huge fan of the old Hollywood musicals. The new twists were too twisted for us. I think Rick is becoming more like Darryl every episode this season.

So, those who don’t use Facebook and Facebook users who don’t do page “likes” are under-represented.

Posted on November 2, 2012 at 4:16pmGood point. I am frankly the only person I know who does not use Facebook and never have nor will create an account. Like my privacy too much.
I would imagine that conservatives on the whole percentage-wise have lessFfacebook involvement.

Posted on November 2, 2012 at 3:58pmThe Walking Dead and Mad Men are my favorite regular series.AMC does a fine job on producing these 2. Sons of Anarchy is fun to watch.
I’m conservative and strictly Roku with Netflix and Amazon Prime.free Local over the air channels. No more getting ripped from Direct TV ,Dish or Cable.I’ll decide what to watch when I want it,and at what price.I have radio and the internet for my news sources.

Posted on November 2, 2012 at 3:45pmIt’s “The Walking Dead” for me at this point.
Revolution and Falling Skies are both too lame.
My all-time favorite series was “Black Sheep Squadron” mainly because they used actual real aircraft and real actors, not the sissified CGI nonsense.
I’d love to see a new show called “Real Housewives of NY get sand under their pristine fingernails”, or “Snooki’s fat-ass dumpster dives”. Now, those would be shows for me.

Posted on November 2, 2012 at 3:52pmI totally agree! Walking Dead is really post-apocalyptic. I have no clue why that’s not on the conservative side. And Food Network and History Channel are both in the tank for Obama. Lesson learned: NEVER TRUST A POLL.
