Need a Laugh? Watch Parents Break the News to Their Kids That They Ate All the Halloween Candy

Jimmy Kimmel Prank: Parents Tell Their Children They Ate All Their Halloween Candy

(Photo: YouTube)

Last Halloween, comedian Jimmy Kimmel issued an open challenge to his audience that rapidly exploded into a YouTube sensation with roughly 34 million hits.  The task?  Tell your kids you ate all their Halloween candy, then upload video of their response.  The result was so hilarious that Kimmel did it again this year, and it’s no less amusing.

From the toddler who collapses on the ground in tears to the children who are way too old to be throwing such tantrums, the video has already been watched thousands of times since being uploaded earlier today.

The first girl appears to take the news relatively well, analyzing the situation in her head before asking seriously: “Did you eat my suckers?”

When the mom says “yes,” the girl’s face transforms almost immediately into this:

When one of the parents says Jimmy Kimmel told her to do it, the child angrily shouts: “I hate you Jimmy Kindle!”  Another morosely cries while simultaneously trying to eat a bowl of cereal.

But the end of the video is perhaps what’s most entertaining– after watching youths of all ages lash out at the terrible news, one energetic little girl unexpectedly hops up and down with a smile and says, “That’s otay.”

Another boy brushes it off and tells his mom: “That’s alright.  I just want you to feel happy.”

The video concludes with a precocious little girl responding the way a clever adult might, saying she’s not mad, just “sad.”  Maybe next year, she hints, they can share her candy.

Wow this is how I feel when tax time comes around. Only I don’t get all of what I worked hard for back. I didn’t really think this was funny. Parents who lie to their children are not good parents. Not even if it’s to make crowds of heartless people laugh.

For all the “adults” that are being crybabies on here quit acting like joking with your child is the worst possible thing.

This actually teaches the kids to not be so gullible in the future. after their parents tell them they were joking, they think ‘oh OK I won’t let you get the better of me next time’. So next time when the parents joke with them they question it first and they go to check to see if it is true before reacting. It teaches the child that things are not always as they seem. THAT’S how you can teach a child to think with a mind of their own instead of them growing up to be part of the sheeple.

so other than the video being adorably funny I find it is good parenting… so long as you don’t go ruining the lesson by coddling them afterward then what’s the point of teaching them the lesson?

Lying to children in order to elicit a negative emotional response in the name of entertainment. Is this how far we have sunk? It was shameful the first time Kimmel issued this video “challenge”. To make it an annual event is repulsive to the extreme. Within a family, we joke around and kid each other all the time maybe, but it has to be done with mutual respect in order to be healthy, and it certainly needn’t be fodder for YouTube. The whole “let’s see how many hits I can get on YouTube by embarrassing someone I love” seems nothing but hurtful and self-serving to me.

As a young boy, I never knew what my Dad meant when he said, “I will give you something to cry about!”, because I was already crying about something. Now I know it meant, what ever I was crying about was trivial compared to—-16 trillion to pay back all your lies, and no way to earn it!!!!!

Get used to it kids, and don’t forget to vote for either party.

Some of the responses here show me why we have to get rid of these softie, everyone get’s a trophy, adults in our educational system. Things like this show your child humor, and truly bring out the values they have learned so far. These whining adults are the same people who sacrifice the farmland of generations of farmers to save a tick. And have no problem lying to their children about ‘global warming’. Chances are the children who get it are not from the east or west coast.

I agree not funny at all. You trust your parents completely and the kind of betrayal this will breed will only cause problems later.

The kids should do a revenge prank on their parents. The next time the kid is at a friends’ house, have someone call the parents pretending to be the police. Tell them that their child has been killed in a car accident and they need the to come identify the body. Capture their reaction on hidden camera and post it on the internet. It’s ok to make some cry for your pleasure, right? Different things make different people cry.

As long as the kids got their candy in the end (which I hope they did, offscreen) it’s ok. I remember my parents doing this to me saying “we’re eating ALL the candy!” It was terrible at first but when they gave me my bag of candy untouched all was well again and now I just look back on it and smile.

This is a good example of what’s wrong with this country. Parents who behave like the children they’re supposed to be raising. Is it any wonder so many people see nothing wrong with Obama’s behavior?

Some of those kids were very forgiving – a character trait on which I should work. As for those of you taking yourselves too seriously – maybe the kids need to know what a “prank” is called. Get the sticks out of your asses!

Yes, yes… the high and mighty self-indulgent, condescending, selfrighteous morality ra-ra. Here’s an idea: let people raise their kids how they see fit. Or are you one of those who would force an individual to act as you see fit? Are you a government crony? Perhaps a taxpayer-funded social services worker? Another moral busybody… just what the world needs. A little fun never hurt anyone.

I don’t have kids, but I don’t think I’d have the heart to freak them out like this.My parents never played pranks like this on me. Though some of the kids at the end were pure sweetness, some of them have me a little worried. Especially Obama Jr. who was still wearing pullups??? The way he went for that full water bottle to throw, should have Momma watching that one closely. I hope she told him she was kidding, he may want to grow up and confiscate everyone else’s candy and redistribute it!! Ha!! Ok, that was a little mean, but so were these pranks.

These parents are sick. At that age, you are the Sun and Moon for your kids, they trust you completely. And you will sell that for a cheap laugh on some moronic talk show? Sick.

You want to erode your credibility with your kids? this is how to do it. Toy with them like they’re cartoon characters, use their emotions (which is most of how they respond to and understand the world at this age) against them, with their trust and love for you as the fulcrum? Disgusting.

Someone should do a followup with these kids in 15 years. Then we’ll see who’s laughing.

It’s only damaging to the kids if you do this a whole lot to them. If you do it once in a blue moon and tell assure them afterward that you were joking, that you wouldn’t really eat all their candy they would still trust you. Kids aren’t THAT paranoid you know.

I agree with your statement…but you’re assuming this is a “one-off” by these parents. I think anyone who does this even once, and in PUBLIC, is likely to be so unaware and clueless that I’m sure they’re engaged in other bizarre and demeaning activities in order to “enjoy” their cute and hapless offspring to the fullest.

I used to look for excuses to get rid of all that candy. As soon as my kids started fighting over it, I would throw it all out. They took in in stride after the first few years.

This is pre-revenge. Sooner or later when these children get older they’re going to do something really embarrassing to their parent and at least the parents will have this as some kind of solitude. Face the fact, sooner or later these children will deserve this. However, I do have to admit I feel sorry for the last three.
