Fox News host Neil Cavuto spent part of his Saturday program exploring the devastation in some of the worst-hit areas of Superstorm Sandy, noting that roughly a week later, help still has not reached many of those who need it.
Fox News contributor John Tabacco called in from Staten Island to relate the situation on the ground, and said there has been no federal assistance “whatsoever.” The only thing the “convoys” of those who appear to be FEMA agents and homeland security officials have done, he said, is “drive around with clipboards writing things down.”
He explained:
“We have volunteers and other people coming out giving water from their own homes. People need gloves. People need blankets and you can get to these homes. The question is, where is the government assistance? …There’s not a federal agent helping a single person where we are.”
But that’s not the worst of it.

Many of those in Staten Island are saying the death toll will be far higher once we have all the facts, partially because of terrifying situations like what Tabacco described:
“This morning we’re distributing stuff here and we’re helping people dig out, and we hear the sanitation guys scream out that there are bodies in the pile. Everybody jumps on the pile and starts pulling away debris. And, unfortunately, probably not reported right now, but that was about an hour and a half ago, certainly three more people deceased. God bless them…”
Here is video of the interview, via Gateway Pundit:
The host remarked:
“The reason why we’re going back to Staten Island, showing it, is you might hear from officials at FEMA and the administration that everything is fine, that teams are on the ground and they’re addressing this. The fact of the matter is it is not fine, take a look at what’s going on in Staten Island. That is not ‘fine’…
“When we were talking yesterday about officials of all stripes patting themselves on the back, it is little a mystery why so many of their constituents want to just give them a swift kick in the rear.”
As time passes with little or no help, fears of crime and looting are on the rise as well. In nearby Coney Island, roving gangs are already terrorizing the streets, causing people to board themselves in their houses until order is restored.
Here is video of Cavuto’s interview with Maryanne Alessio, a Staten Island resident who had much more to say about the devastation, and the government’s response:

Nov. 3, 2012 at 9:26pmI keep saying this. Being from FL I never saw such idiots running something in mylife as I see here. Look up 2004 fl hurricane season with 4 hurricanes in 6 weeks time and a tropical storm. These people would never make it if left on their own. Defacating in hallways? Really? Dump it outside! Even dogs do not like to live near their own feces. Libs never know how to volunteer or help their fellow citizens. In fl 1 of every 4 homes in the state that year were destroyed. Blue tarps on salvagable homes were seen for miles and miles and when you were leaning up from one hurricane charley, there came Frances, then Ivan, and Jeanne! it was never ending. we did not cry or complain. we dealt with the hand we were given and decided to help others sincenyour home is destroyed what else CAN you do? People had no homes and still volunteered and helped! They never sat there saying woah is me I need someone to do for me!

Nov. 4, 2012 at 12:03amMs. Waters, we Floridians have been through this many times and have learned to prepare and expect these storms. Also, when we get hit, it’s usually not freezing weather afterward. I know it is difficult to watch folks complain like children, but try not to judge them too harshly. It is the first time for many of them, and their nanny-state governments have conditioned them to expect the authorities to step in and coddle them.

They NY media made fun of Romney collecting blankets, water, clothes, diapers, etc. and said give money to the Red Cross instead….For what? Cookies and Hot Chocolate? FEMA giving out water? Nov. 3, 2012 at 9:07pmWe hear from officialdom that “all is under control” but we hear from people actually living in the effected areas that help is non-existent even though it’s been almost a week since the storm hit. We read here on The Blaze that non-union electrical workers from the South are turned away by union workers, even though thousands are still without power. We see mile-long lines for gas and people dumpster diving for food for their kids.
And, then, we hear from the mainstream media that this is NOT another Katrina??? It sure looks to me pretty much like the same fiasco as what happened in New Orleans! The ONLY difference THIS time is that there’s a presidential election a couple of days from now and the media’s “poster boy” is having a tough time getting himself re-elected. So, just as with the Benghazi scandal and cover-up, the media once again downplays the truth in order to protect their “chosen one.”
The mainstream media is acting just like Pravda and any other state-run propaganda machine! I agree with Pat Caddell… the mainstream media IS an enemy of America and poses a fundamental threat to democracy!

Nov. 3, 2012 at 10:33pmI hate to tell you, but Maine to Florida (and into the Carribean) IS HURRICANE COUNTRY! Deny it at your peril! New York gets hit periodically, but has NOT sustained a hit from such a broad storm at a lunar high tide! Once the storm surge raises the water level, the wind-blown waves are free to do their damage–and it is ALWAYS severe! This isn’t just just flooding as one might experience in a river running over its banks, but night-time, wind-driven, major beating by large waves surging across all the natural barriers that normally absorb their energy!

Nov. 3, 2012 at 11:44pmWOWJUSTWOW, I am a White female from SE Texas. I have been through lots of hurricanes including receiving evacuees from Katrina, only to be crushed by Rita, and in 2008 Ike. Devastation is something I have lived with for years. My husband has always been part of the first responders that help restore order and provide supplies for those who have evacuated. This is what I know first hand.
FEMA hands out forms to receive $2000 that is to aid in disaster expenses. The Red Cross does precious little other than bring an occasional ham and cheese sandwich. Anheuser Busch is a God send with water. Other states sending in linemen to help restore utilities is enough to make the average citizen run out to give what ever they have to aid them in anyway possible. I’ll never forget Mrs Crow giving her last bottle of water to a thirsty line worker as a way to say thank you for coming. The blessings these out of state volunteers give is beyond words. Churches are the life blood to aiding the community. Many churches down south have huge commercial kitchens to feed and house many of the incoming volunteers that arrive from other states.
We pull together resources and manpower to be a blessing to those who need hope just to get through another day. We dry tears as we smile through our own pain. As community caregivers our days start at 6AM and we don’t stop until 10PM. But with each day we see God’s blessings in the progress made. By God and God alone we rise.

I don’t know how people expect things to be solved so quickly when the magnitude of destruction was so beyond what anyone could ever imagine. Most people prepared for it, we were warned and evacuated out of areas considered zone A. I guess people just want to believe the worst because it validates there belief of what’s going on here. I mean someone already told me to take my liberal mindset and beat it…. why would they say that when I was just trying to point out how my community, both democrats, republicans, independents, etc.. how we are coming together to help our neighbors and community, no one I know is sitting around and waiting for handouts, but everyone I meet and talk to just wants to help, it has most of us united to do what is needed…

Nov. 3, 2012 at 9:47pmHELLO : This is the mentality that the Obama Far Left ” Big Daddy Government ” creates. This is the thinking that destroyed the USSR. And which is now destroying Europe. Obama and crew are just trying to re-warm it for American consumption. NOBAMA 2012

Nov. 3, 2012 at 11:34pmI copied this from my previous comment but incase you didn’t see it:
I live on Staten Island and have spent many hours in my community doing hurricane relief work, I live by the shore and I can tell you that the response from our community and surrounding areas has been nothing short of amazing!!! We are a close community and have been taking care of our neighbors from minute one, we have an abundance of donations and have been organizing through social media, people just driving around giving out meals, coffee, etc. It is not chaos… many caring wonderful people all over Staten Island. Red Cross, FEMA, church groups, salvation army, etc. all helping out! We are the biggest little small town in America and we are taking care of each other!!!!

Nov. 3, 2012 at 8:46pmThe liberals who run the blue East Coast states did not plan or prepare for this storm. Once again, liberal policies and misplaced priorities prove fatal.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 6:34pm@Tri-Ox, Doesn’t this remind you of what happened with Katrina? Governor, and mayor of
N.O. should have prepared for their state/city. Didn’t happen.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 12:10am@Snow: Not “where he gets votes”, but “where he NEEDS votes”
I have long believed that politicians will take for granted, those groups whose votes are secure. For example, Obama need not cater to the needs of black voters, because their vote is sewn up tight. If they want to be taken seriously, the politicians MUST feel that they are in jeopardy of losing their constituents. NY & NJ, being Union Blue Democrat strongholds, are not “in play”, and therefore are less important to either party than swing state voters.
