(TheBlaze/AP) — New Jersey will allow residents displaced by Superstorm Sandy to vote by email or fax, alleviating concerns by some that the devastation could suppress the vote or even cause the election to be postponed.
Officials announced Saturday that registered voters can vote electronically, but must submit a mail-in ballot application by fax or email to the local county clerk.
When the request is received, a ballot will be emailed or faxed back, and ballots must be returned no later than 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno says the effort will help alleviate pressure on polling places Tuesday, many of which are far more difficult to access in the storm’s wake. The damage is so complete in some areas that New Jersey is using military trucks in the place of damaged polling stations.
Officials say electronic voting is also an option for emergency workers, and one that is already open to New Jersey voters overseas and in the military.
However, while many say they would rather vote online if they had the option, there is also a concern that the lack of face-to-face contact will make it much easier to commit voter fraud.
Avi Rubin, a professor of computer science at Johns Hopkins University, weighed in on the issue last year and concluded that online voting was “unsafe” and something “no technological breakthrough” he could anticipate would change.
“People’s computers are not getting more secure,” he remarked. “They’re getting more infected with viruses. They’re getting more under the control of malware.”
Officials have not specified how many people they expect to vote online, or whether they are putting in extra security measures for the presumably increased number of voters.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 4:24amDear Sun Tzi, Please realize that feeling “depressed” is a sign of being a thinking person. Your brains are trying to re-figuring re-constructing new understanding. Animals don’t have depressions.
Congratulations, you are re-examining and growing. when you come out from the other side, you will have brand new prospectives on life. This is why Glenn Beck is able to think ahead, because he has been through several of these. This how we grow intellectually. Congratulations !!!!!!

Our human history has been built on blood, sweat, and tears. You are not checking out! We need every conservative to stand your ground and fight for the future of our children.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 1:31amI feel disturbed hearing all this negativity. We are talking about the East Coast. Regardless of HOW they cast their legitimate or illegitimate votes, they were, are, and will be, for Obama! Sandy changes nothing.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 2:09am1) WE know that area is going for OBAMA , but GOD only knows why. 2) the EMail votes may be easier to compare for duplication purposes. JOHN JONES at 1234 Main Street, Staten Island, NY can only vote one time. Probably easier to track ol’ John via EMAIL (the the IP etc.) than if he staggers in from some DEM bus trip. There can’t be more votes than population. People will be watching.
I say: ANYTHING WE can do to help these stricken folks feel “normalized” is fine. They can’t hurt us and they can help themselves…if there is rampant fraud…it will stick out like a sore thumb. I’d say 99% of them just want, damnit, to be able to vote !!! REMEMBER only 21% of the population in America are flamin’ liberals and MSM…the rest are pretty Decent folk.
I hope we are all still praying for these people. They sure as hell didn’t get any help from OBAMA or BLOOMBERG… THAT SOB kept two generator tied up for 24 hours that could have provided heat, light, gas pumping ability for 400 homes. He needs to be run out of town on a rail.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 3:56amI don’t care WHY they want Obama over common sense. I know God knows. Yes, only 20% seem to be flaming Libs, they just seem to concentrate in certain parts of the country. The East Coast is one. The Left Coast is the other.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 1:25amSomehow I don’t believe that those devastated by “Sandy” are even thinking about voting. Having shelter, clothing, and food might be their first priority.
With all their possessions lost, (including their computers), will all these people appear at the public libraries to cast their votes? I think not.
Some of these people have lived decades in their homes, and now they have to start over. You have to be to kidding to think that they have even given a thought to voting.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 12:47amWhat do I care about the NJ vote or even the NY vote, it was not going for Romney anyway .. So let the Democrats feel they have cheated the system or their vote meant nothing. If there was chance that the Electoral College from NJ would be a toss up it would be a another story and voter fraud would be something to worry about.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 12:59amReally. No big deal. So long as its contained to NJ, nothing changes. I’m sure fraud will be committed, but its for a blue state. And if its fraud to go RED, hell no. Liberals may be ok with fraud, but not me. It stays blue, it stays the same. Besides, there should only be one ballot issued per registered voter. And most affected by the storm probably don’t really give a rats @ss about voting anyhow. And maybe most voted early since the storm was coming, even though they didn’t prepare with food and fuel…..

Nov. 4, 2012 at 12:56amThey have generators. Some areas have power. They could use an empty store-front. I’m sure there are a lot of those in Obama’s economy. There’s no reason to vote by fax nor email.
Military trucks are not needed, except for carrying supplies, paper ballots, generators, and the machines that count the ballots.

Nov. 4, 2012 at 12:08amThis is the worst idea they can do it will do nothing but create chaos around the truthfulness of the vote. With hacking groups like Anonymous linked to George Soros and Obama’s secret cyber crew. You can bet that they will be working on a Denial of Service attack on those servers that it will crash the network in the region and will be cause for a lot of trepidation.
I hate the vote by mail in my state since every time a Republican gets close to winning the Governorship the Dems find more ballots that fell out on the floor of the storage facility until they collect enough votes for the Democrat.
