An Obama Landslide? Here Are the Expert Predictions That Point to a Decisive Obama Victory
TheBlaze’s Becket Adams contributed to this report.
–
It’s no secret that numerous — and notable – pundits are predicting a Mitt Romney landslide in Tuesday’s presidential election. But while many are claiming that the Republican candidate will secure a sweeping victory, others view the electoral scenario through a very different lens. In fact, some experts are projecting that President Barack Obama is actually the candidate poised for a massive win.
Below, find some of the most most prevalent predictions that Obama will sail to success at the polls on Tuesday:
–
Larry Sabato: Veteran Political Expert
Larry Sabato, known for his electoral predictions, believes Obama is poised for victory. According to his calculations, the president will capture 290 electoral votes, thus securing the White House for a second term. Business Insider has more about Sabato’s campaign calculations:
The forecast shows a significant last-minute bump for Obama in the final days of the campaign — just last Thursday, Sabato had deemed the race too close to call. The bump, which Sabato attributes to Hurricane Sandy and Friday’s not-disastrous jobs numbers, has given Obama an edge in several key battleground states, putting him on track to win 290 electoral college votes — well beyond the 270 he needs to win re-election, but still nowhere close to a landslide.
According to Sabato, four states — Iowa, Wisconsin, New Hampshire, and Colorado — have moved from “toss-up” to “leans Obama” over the past five days. Combined with Ohio, which Sabato has had in Obama’s column since September, those states give the president a soft cushion in the electoral map. Even Romney manages to win Florida and Virginia (which Sabato has moved to “leans Republican”), he still comes up short with just 248 electoral votes.
The below table shows the final predictions, as outlined by Sabato:

Nate Silver: New York Times Blogger
New York Times blogger Nate Silver is so certain that Obama will win on Tuesday he’s willing to bet $2,000 (literally) that he’s correct in his assertions.
On Sunday, Silver explained the current national proportions, while also highlighting the breakdowns in key states. His conclusion? That the current projections very likely point to an Obama victory:
Based on the simulations that we ran on early Sunday evening, for example, Mr. Obama would have an 85 percent chance of winning the Electoral College if the popular vote were exactly tied nationally. This is where Mr. Obama’s Electoral College advantages, particularly in Nevada, Ohio and Wisconsin, would be of their maximum benefit. Given a tied national popular vote, we would expect Mr. Obama to underperform his polls slightly in these states — but since he leads by a minimum of about three points in the polling average in each one, he could underperform those numbers and still win them.
Mr. Obama would be almost certain to win the Electoral College if he won the popular vote by a percentage point or so. [...]
On Saturday, we wrote that state polls would have to be statistically biased against Mr. Romney for him to win the Electoral College. Now, it may be the case that the national polls would have to be biased against him as well.
–
Jim Cramer: Host of CNBC’s “Mad Money”
The Washington Post invited several pundits, analysts, and political strategists to predict the outcome of tomorrow’s election in its Outlook’s “16th Crystal Ball contest.” Among those invited to participate in the contest was CNBC’s Jim Cramer who claims the “race is nowhere as close as the polls suggest.”
Like the New York Times’ Nate Silver, the “Mad Money” host believes tomorrow’s election will be a landslide in the president’s favor. A 440 electoral vote blowout, to be exact.
The thing is, for President Obama to win with 440 electoral votes, he would not only have to outdo his 2008 performance (when he won with 365 electoral votes against a much, much milder opponent), but he would also have to win all of the Midwest along with a combination of heavily conservative western states and/or heavily conservative southern states. None of this seems very plausible.
Considering Cramer is the same guy who, during the crash of 2008, recommended buying stock in Bear Sterns and Lehman Bros., perhaps his 440 electoral vote prediction is more of the same (i.e. a wild and woefully misinformed stab in the dark).
–
Sam Wang: Princeton University
While Sam Wang may not be a household name, his predictions may cause Republicans some angst. Wang, who runs the Meta-Analysis model for Princeton Election Consortium, is also predicting an Obama win. Mother Jones explains the professor and neuroscientist’s background:
Wang runs the Meta-Analysis model for the Princeton Election Consortium. Wang, who made a name for himself in neuroscience and biophysics, took the statistical analyses he’d applied in those fields and transposed them to the mess of electoral politics. He developed the model in 2004 initially to help predict the most strategic way to allocate of campaign donations. The model, based on a slew of state polls, calculates each candidate’s probability of winning in the Electoral College if the election were held today.
Considering his accuracy in the 2004 and 2008 elections, Wang’s prediction carries weight. Below, find his current (as of 10 a.m. on November 5) projection (Obama at 305 versus Romney at 233):

The American People
Okay, so the American public may not be “expert,” but they are the deciding factors in the electoral schema.
While the polls have shown a nation divided when it comes to choosing between Romney and Obama, there’s a major difference between the candidate one plans to vote for and the candidate one assumes will win. Despite being in a deadlock (the current Real Clear Politics national average is 47.8 percent for Obama and 47.4 percent for Romney), the American people — at least according to Gallup — believe Obama is poised for victory.

When asked “who do you think will win the election in November,” 54 percent chose Obama and only 34 percent selected Romney. Overall, these proportions haven’t moved much when compared to the stances that Gallup observed back in May and August.
–
Lanny Davis: Former Special Counsel to President Bill Clinton
Lawyer Lanny Davis joins the ranks of those who believe that victory is inevitable for Obama. Based on “evidence” and his “gut instinct,” Davis wrote a Huffington Post article highlighting his beliefs on the matter. He got specific, too, noting his predictions in detail:
My best guess is the popular vote margin will be 50.5 percent to 49. The electoral vote margin will likely be 281 for Obama and 257 for Romney. I am picking battleground states for Obama to include Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nevada and New Hampshire. For Romney I am predicting he will win battleground states Virginia, North Carolina and Colorado.
Davis believes Obama’s messages have resonated with voters and that Romney’s have not. Additionally, he contends that the president is more likable and that Obama remains “the change candidate who excites and inspires” Americans.
–
YouGov: Market Research Firm
According to YouGov, Obama is well-poised to capture the Electoral College on Tuesday. While a pre-election poll conducted from October 31 through November 3 found that the president was up two points over Romney (48.5 percent versus 46.5 percent), state-wide analysis may be more troubling for the GOP candidate.
While it’s not an impossibility for Romney to capture the 270 votes needed to win the election, the cards are currently stacked, at least according to this firm’s analysis, in Obama’s favor. YouGov explains:
YouGov also completed 27 state-level polls during this same time period. Based on these polls, President Obama is well-positioned to win in the Electoral College Tuesday. A Romney victory is not impossible, however: if the cards line up correctly for him, the former Massachusetts Governor could squeak by the threshold of 270 electoral votes and become the next President.

–
Remember, these are only predictions and opinions. Like those claiming Romney will win, these individuals and organizations are, based on their knowledge base and experience, seeking to definitively project the odds in a highly-unpredictable electoral season.
In the end, the voters will have the say and, regardless of polling numbers, the situation could end in either candidate’s favor.

George Soros spent a lot money this year to put the right vote counters in the right places.
Now the have allowed anyone that can wander into a polling place off the street and vote under any name, and give the a couple of months to get all voting done. It would not surprise me if Obama got more votes then there are citizens, his minions have been working on this for months now.

Posted on November 5, 2012 at 11:40amYou are 100% correct. I have no doubt in my mind that if Obama wins this election it is because the Elite Banksters corrupted this election. Look at history, how can you possibly think we have a free and uncorrupted election systems? Kennedy, King, Lennon, Marley, Tu PAC, Cobain and Jackson are just a few people that were murdered fro going against these elite banksters. Gulf of Tonkin, Iraq, Vietnam, Korea, 9-11-2001 were all perpetrated by our own Government.
Why would you think for a moment that this election is correct or true. It is just another distraction.

Posted on November 5, 2012 at 11:41amThat is what I’ve been seeing….NOT a normal scenario! If the lefties lose this election it means a lot of people will go to prison, be publicly shamed. When the spell that the MSM has cast on the population is broken and people see the administration as it really is there will be a reckoning.
If the lefties WIN this election, actually ‘steal’ this election, we go down in flames….literally.
There is no way on earth Obama could win without immoral and criminal activity. NO WAY.

Half of Detroit was laid of as was home builders. A new car loan was 21% and 17% for a new home. The rich got very rich – a 6 month CD paid 17%. Since Obama got in office gold has increased in value by 60% and thats why George Soreass bought $ one billion bucks worth 2 years ago. Silver has increased in value by 70%. If the dollar collaspes we will go to a barter system. Gold, silver, food, ammo will be our currency. If Carter had been re-elected we would have been using Russian Rupels for money!

Posted on November 5, 2012 at 2:40pm“While every single poll on the planet predicts Democrats will enjoy a turnout advantage of three to eleven points, the latest Rasmussen survey of party affiliation taken throughout October shows that Republicans enjoy a huge 5.8% Party ID advantage going into the 2012 election.
According to Twitter’s invaluable NumbersMuncher, Rasmussen correctly predicted 2008 would be a D+7 election and incorrectly predicted 2010 would be D+3. (2010 was D+0, or even, so Rasmussen gave an edge to Democrats they didn’t have.)
If the 2012 race is D+2, Romney’s probably going to win. If the race is R+6, Romney’s going to enjoy a landslide.
The most important piece of information in this poll, though, is that Rasmussen’s sample is a monstrous 15,000 likely voter. Moreover, Rasmussen’s Party ID results match similar results found by Gallup and Pew.
Again, if Rasmussen is anywhere near as correct as he’s been in the past, all of these polls showing Obama holding small leads, are dead wrong. They’re under-sampling Republicans in a major way; predicting an electorate that looks like 2008.
ADDED: In one photo, here’s a look at Rasmussen’s track record.”

Posted on November 5, 2012 at 4:30pmDemocrats began setting up the most massive vote corruption machinery since they won in 2008. They are determined never to have another national election in which their opponents have any chance of winning. Soros has control of the democrat party through all his front organizations which include the so called mainstream media all of academia which are part of the support organizations of his plan. The evil of totalitarianism will eventually destroy them all. But in the meantime the United States will sink into oblivion if they succeed tomorrow. California and the east and west coasts are good examples of how this mindless self-destruction works. How they vote are strong indicators of the self-destruction that is about to crush us. Ignorance and irrational thinking it seems is winning and a new dark age is rising. The useful idiots will be consumed in the process. The deceived ones will realize too late that they are governments property and will be slaves all their miserable lives. Their only release will be death and their government masters will control that to. This is our last chance to be a free people but at least 47% ignorant Americans desire the oppression of slavery over freedom and liberty. John Dewey, Lenin, Saul Alinsky, Marx, Mao and Stalin would be envious for we are doing to ourselves what they could not accomplish against us in their own lifetimes. Posted on November 6, 2012 at 3:36amAshesToAshes, I believe that it is never good to give up. The Revolutionary War was only fought by a handful of true Patriots. We are not fighting with guns, but with an Idea. “An idea whose time has come cannot be stopped by any army or any government.” ~ Ron Paul
We are in a political war. We have battles to win, and that is all we can try to do. You win some, you lose some. But, you never give up. When we start to give up, our numbers decrease, and when that happens, we start to lose more battles. We must fight on, we must not give in to tyranny, even if all others do. We try to wake up minds to what is really going on, but you can only lead a horse to water.
The Libertarian Party has a decent chance of getting the 5% needed to get them automatic ballot access in all 50 states and election funding in the next election, which means easier to get into debates. Paul supporters will continue to gain chair positions in the GOP at the local and state levels. At some time, we may have two vehicles for Liberty minded candidates. We must focus on the war and not just the battles. Good Luck to you my friend.

They also assume the same Republican lack of enthusiasm that they showed for John McCain. The fact that Romney is virtually tied in polls that favor Dems by 6 to 11 points means Romney is really up by 5 to 10 points.
Romney will win, and win decisively. There will be a lot of prognosticators with egg on their faces, most of whom also missed the 2010 midterms and thought they would be close. Like that same tsunami they did not see coming in 2010, look for tonight’s win for Romney to be by 5 to 8 points and over 300 electoral votes. Posted on November 5, 2012 at 12:57pmthey also have Minnesoto and Michigan and Pennsylvania likely or solidly Obama…but all three states are TIED in the latest polls…that would mean TOSS UP status…so they have about 30 EC votes that should be toss up in the Obama camp…
take those 30 away and even split them 20-10 for Obama…and you get a 3-5 pt Obama victory.. you put NC, VA, and FLA back into the Romney likely/solid where they are polling and the race gets even closer….
sorry… God is not absent in the affairs of man… God has a candidate in this race…a man that bows his head and kneels and prays before and after each speech.. a man that says “Thy Will be done, not mine..” and that man IS NOT Obama….
Rejoice brothers and sisters…the outcome is in the hands of the Almighty and HIS WILL will win the day…do your jobs..vote and take others with you and then watch as the Light of Heaven renews America….

Just think, if the red states decided to quit sending food and oil to the west and east coast a whole lot of people would be up the creek without a paddle. If the blue states have that many people packed into them to win the popular vote it must be like hell to be there, like rats in a sewer crawling all over each other. I’d argue that the reasoning behind the electoral college was correct, but the functional application is not. The idea that the electoral college is somehow able to provide a buffer against stupidity en masse is pretty much played out.
In addition, I’d argue that it leads to voter disengagement. If you are a republican in NY then why vote? If you are a liberal in Kansas why vote? (figuratively of course) We have/had lower voter turnout that Iraq in some cases. People endured mortar fire to vote in Iraq and people won’t get off their couches here. Kinda sad. Posted on November 5, 2012 at 3:06pm@stelex…the electoral college was formed to facilitate the mostly agrarian culture (that means “farm” culture) we had here in America that couldn’t get to a common poll on a particular day because they were busy working the crops so they chose people that were supposed to listen to the people to vote for them in their stead and the states were awarded the number of electoral votes based on the population numbers. When we were 90% agrarian rural it worked. Now that we are closer to 90% urban and metro, it is obsolete…but it gets the job done when less popular candidates can convince the ELECTORAL VOTERS to ignore the popular vote they are supposed to represent and vote what they themselves want to vote. Why do you think the people want to get on the electoral panel in the first place? It’s a position of power and many can be pandered to and bought. It is an obsolete means of letting everyone have their say on a particular day and in this day of wonder of electronics and transportation it needs to be done away with. I’m a rancher out in the middle of nowhere but I can get to the polls with my newfangled invention called an internal combustion engine on rubber wheels instead of taking a horse and wagon that might get 20 miles in one day and take me away from the important job of raising food crops for the city dwellers for weeks at a time.
