Iowa Governor: The People of Iowa Feel ‘Betrayed by the President’, ‘Romney Will Win’

Iowa governor Terry Branstad says Romney Will Win Iowa

Republican presidential candidate former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney stands with Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, left, and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, right, as he campaigns at Landmark Aviation at The Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012. AP

In an exclusive interview with TheBlaze, Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad sounded confident that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney would carry his state and he did not hold back on his harsh criticism of President Barack Obama.

That confidence is despite Obama carrying the state handily four years ago. So where will that 10 point advantage go? Branstad, who is a Republican,  points to the voter rolls.  He notes that there are now more registered Republicans in the state of Iowa than Democrats.  He also mentioned the Des Moines Register poll showing Obama with half the lead he had four year ago.

But it is the president’s record in Iowa that will truly be his downfall, according to Branstad.

“A lot of Iowans supported President Obama four years ago feel betrayed by the president,”  the governor said. “The national debt goes up a trillion dollars every year he is in office, then he blames other people for it.  This is not the candidate that ran here four years ago.”

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney waves with Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, right, before speaking at a campaign stop at Seven Cities Sod, Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, in Davenport, Iowa.

The three-term Governor contrasts his state with bordering Illinois, where “Obama’s buddies from Chicago are running everything.” He cites the state’s high unemployment and an anemic economy as a good example of what high taxes and a corrupt government, in “Obama style” brings to a state.

“They also have the most debt per-capita of any state in the union” Branstad notes calling Obama’s home state an “economic disaster.”

“This president has been very decisive,” the governor said, and gave examples from the campaign trail.  ”This has been nothing but a campaign of smear and attack. His record is so bad he knows he can’t run on his record.”

He added that the president engages in class warfare openly: “there is no question of that.”  But Branstad noted that Iowans are “smarter” than to believe these attack methods and predicts they “will not buy it.”

Iowa governor Terry Branstad says Romney Will Win Iowa

MADISON, WI – NOVEMBER 05: U.S. President Barack Obama addresses a rally during the last day of campaigning in the general election November 5, 2012 in Madison, Wisconsin. Obama and his opponent, Republican presidential nominee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are stumping from one ‘swing state’ to the next in a last-minute rush to persuade undecided voters.

When asked about the new requirements on him based on Obamacare, Branstad bristled.

“This is simply not affordable” he says, passionately repeating that it is not the government’s role to tell people what they can and cannot do with their healthcare. The governor repeated that he wants a waver from the “unconstitutional” bill that is being forced on the states. Romney has said he will grant the states Obamacare waivers on his first day in office.  “That is music to my ears,” Branstad said.

“Governing by unilaterally usurping congress and the states is not what our founders intended,” he concluded. “That’s not leadership.”

“After Romney wins this election we are going to see changes. The private sector, not government, is the only thing that is going to bring this economy back,” he added.

“Romney will win Iowa,” Branstad concluded, albeit he predicts Romney will get the state’s six electoral votes “by a close margin.”  When asked if we will have a President Romney on Tuesday night the swing-state governor says cheerfully “I sure hope so. You bet.”

I cant believe all these Americans voted for Barry in the last election now they are all crying he did a bad job. You voted him in without doing any research on the man, cause you felt good. The voters are resopnsible, the American people are responsible because they voted him in. Its like eating a bag of dog doo the media told you was cotton candy then complaining you have bad breath. You voted Barry in you are to blame not barry he said who he was leading up to the election and any clown could have looked into it a bit. If you voted for Barry in 2008 you are to blame, you are responsible, it was your free choice.

Iowans are not the only ones who feel betrayed by this class/ race/ baiting hater and his New Marxist Democrat Chicago allies. That any man with his abysmal record could even be allowed to run again astonishes me. Either the American people have been so dumbed down or the international Left has gained so much control of the media for this to happen. Barack Obama is America’s punishment for becoming lazy, nasty, media-crazed and far too secular. It will take a miracle to fix the mess that these God- hating Marxist Democrats and their Muslim Brotherhood International Far Left buddies, have created in the past four years. Please spare us, Lord. NOBAMA 2012

      Paperboy….
I don’t know the demographics, exactly, of Iowa, but you would think a midwestern state which is, with some exceptions, small towns and farming, would be Conservative. Many other states which are rural and largely White support Democrats, as well. Maine is an example.
I know, in Maine’s case, that southern Mainer’s tend to be more liberal. But even further up the state on Mt Desert Is. (Acadia), many are depressingly liberal.
My oldest daughter lives there, and I’ve told her my theory is that I believe northern New Englander’s still think its 1955 due to, in large part, the fact that they are not exposed to the racial agenda/hatred of minorities/liberals we see here in southern NJ. There are simply no minorities(to speak of) in Maine.

Many Mainers (not all) simply are blind to the “social justice” agenda and its implications for this country.

Right now, socialist NJ Dem state senators want to spend taxpayer money to procure low interest loans for homes that have been forclosed. That would be a way to move people from gov-supported projects to stable middle-income neighborhoods. Do you know what that would do to property values in those neighborhoods?

Unless you never read the paper and see the incredibly high crime figures for those gov-housing projects, you may be dumb enough to say….”why shouldn’t low income people have a home in a solid middle-class neighborhood.” If I have to answer that, you need to move along.

As a Kentuckian, I’m appalled everytime I hear POSOTUS use his fake southern accent. When he starts to talk that way I just keep waiting for the MF words to pop out of his mouth. I hope the Iowa Governor is correct and he should know as well as anyone the political climate of his state.
Lets also talk about the WAR ON WOMEN. It is real and exists in the islamic countries where POSOTUS has abandoned moderate muslims to the radicals and MB. There’s an ISLAMIC CURTAIN falling on millions of people because POSOTUS’s foreign policy has favored the radicals over the moderates. This is going to be an even bigger failure in history than POSOTUS failed economic policies here in the blessed USA.

Did you ever notice that when Obama whistles you know that a big lie is coming. I lived in Dubuque for 15 years, The people in Iowa are very well educated, honest, hardworking people. However, I had, and I say had a friend who is still supporting Obama. I just cannot wrap my mind around another four years of him. My nephew is an Apache helicopter pilot leaving for Afghanistan in early December. I shiver that our Commander in Chief should be tried for treason. I now live in Ky, right across from Cincinnati where we had a plane with a banner that said “Obama, tell the truth about Benghazi flying over the Bengal stadium along with a hugh blimp supporting Romney. I loved it, all those captive people being buzzed by the truth.

I pray tonight for our country. I pray that whichever way it goes that I will have the liberal side of my family speaking to me. I’m not sure I will get over an Obama win easily.

BONNIE: enjoyed the story of the blimp. It will take creativity to get the message out to people . The Left has hi-jacked the MSM and turned it into a Lefty propaganda tool. Goebbels inspired them. Banners, bill boards and blimps, I guess. I pray for all of our military members. Obama has no buiness being called the Commander-in-Chief. He is as clueless in that position as he is about running the economy. The Chicago Weatherman / Farrakhan / Wright crew of America – haters that he has surrounded himself with should be enough to tell people that he is toxic . NOBAMA 2012
