Joe Scarborough Says He’s Betting on an Obama Win (But With Caveats!)

When it comes to the state of the 2012 Presidential race, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough has been emphatically sure of one thing for at least the past month: This race will be close, and straight calls are impossible. Today, on his show, Scarborough finally made a prediction, albeit one that was flush with caveats and hedges that may sound encouraging to its detractors.

Like most of his media compatriots, Scarborough is predicting an Obama win. But unlike those compatriots, Scarborough is making his prediction with a heaping helping of epistemological modesty.

“I’ve got to say right now, as a practicing politician of 20 years, If I’m betting, I’m betting on the president,” Scarborough said, before adding a caveat that will make many conservatives happy.

“If you think about 1980, where every elite in Manhattan and Washington was sure Jimmy Carter was going to win — I don’t care what they say now…Nobody saw the Reagan Revolution – nobody saw it coming.”

So in other words, from Scarborough’s perspective, heads Obama wins, tails it’s 1980 all over again.

Conservatives nostalgic for a Reagan-level victory almost certainly don’t mind those odds.

  I’m confused, if only 45 people watch MSNBC, why is it even note worthy to put it on THE BLAZE. Nobody really cares what Joe “lap dog” Scarborough says or thinks… This is the hard hitting journalism we look for from Yahoo not the Blaze

And, this dude gets paid to have an “informed” opinion? My God, how the bar has been lowered over the years.

I saw “it” (Reagan landslide) coming. In fact, I remember most people saw “it” coming, including the leftist town I grew up in. Even those lemmings had the courage to admit Carter was a complete failure. I think Joe is at least my age, if not older, so to say “nobody saw Reagan coming” means this dude had no passion for politics in his youth – at least anything close to what I had.

I would rather listen to intelligent people who know, like Krauthammer and Dick Morris (Cliniton’s adviser – though traitor like, he is usually right). We also must come to the realization that G. Johnson is going to get about 5% of the vote – I think he is taking it away from both candidates – I don’t buy he is just taking away from Romney, then Stein will take 1%, now a religious guy is telling pple to vote for Jesus Christ and 1.6 million have agreed (last I checked my Savior wants me to do the footwork). I will admit, I am fighting for my country, not a candidate. I like Romney, I have no false hopes, I am hoping he will look at this mess like a real businessman.

  The problem is that the largest percentage of voters for Gary Johnson, and the Jesus Christ write-in are by far from the conservative side.
