A few men on a small boat in an Alaskan bay got more than they bargained for when they witnessed a pod of killer whales stalking a mother otter and her young.
In the video captured by the men, the orcas are first filmed coming very close to the boat, which appears to be around the same size in length. Then the travelers see what the whales are really after: the otters.
Eventually, only the mother otter is left. One of the men says that the otter should come up to the boat for protection, and the next thing they know, she’s right next to them in the water. With a little vocal encouragement, the mother hops on out of the killer whale infested water.

(Image: YouTube screenshot)
After she’s taken for a ride, she heartbreakingly begins crying for her young that she can’t find.

Momma hops back into the water to search for her young. (Image: YouTube screenshot)
Watch the clip:
The video was uploaded by Joe Miller, who was the GOP candidate in Alaska for U.S. Senate in 2010 but was beat by write-ins for Lisa Murkowski. Miller wrote in the description that the video came from his friend Dusty Harpol who witnessed the scene with Dave Keller on Tutka Bay while on Charlie Largent’s boat.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 11:52amIf you have a chance to save an animal in need of help……..Do it! Our kind has done a lot of damage to the animal kingdom. So shut up about letting nature take its course. Do what you can when you get a chance. Nice work to the brave boaters. Its sad to hear the fate of the babies, though.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 3:02pmI agree. You should help animals in need, like the whales. If you catch a whale’s dinner, you should throw it back. Is that what you meant?

Nov. 6, 2012 at 10:45amOrcas are fully capable of attacking that boat especially in a pod, they are on record as doing so numerous times, as a family off the coast of west africa in a sailboat found out. letting this otter on my boat would have probably been the last thing i would have done. could imagine a full grown orca coming up from underneath to “tip ” the otter off like they do all the time with seals and iceblocks. its nature folks, nature isnt warm and fuzzy, people forget the savage way the world survives day to day.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 2:00pmThey are not an endangered species…in some areas they are “threatened” but that is it. Up here in Alaska they are everywhere! Not very good to eat though…don’t know why the killer whales would want to eat them…but then again, they were probably hunting for fun. Yes…they do that.

Nov. 5, 2012 at 11:46pmReally? REALLY?
We may live by our Constitution and the Beasts by the Law of the Wild, but our Creator is the same as well as his commandments for happiness.
It’s obvious that God gave animals as well as Men souls.
I eat meat, sure, but I remember the animal and know that it is man’s place…but they have souls too, and I want to cry every time I eat a burger or a taco realizing my wretchedness….needing to devour another living thing in order to survive or keep a standard of living. I witness first hand that even animals feel the despair of their awful condition.
God is God because He is God. He is not God because He Fed on others. He is not God because He was Bred by others. He is not God because He used some Art outside of His own Soul.
God is God because He is God. The Provider is The Provider because He is Self-Providing.
The Maker is The Maker because He is Self-Made.
He is that He is. For He is. “I am that I am. I am.”
I hope you come to understand what true Godhood is…and long to be just like your Father and always recognize Him as your Creator no matter how much power & authority you THINK you have over others.
My level of humility is irrelevant. This isn’t about Self-Righteousness either. I am still the same wretched sack of crap you are. I simply realize it.

Nov. 5, 2012 at 4:59pmahh but nature did run its course.. the otter merely chose the opponent in which the most likely outcome will be it surviving. It apparently made the right choice because it will pass its genes on to the next generation with may, in turn, become a littler smarter as to how to evade predators by choosing the humans. our modern otter fear us because our forfathers were very fearsome hunters and loved to eat them as as does the whale. Maybe in 500 years they will be trusting of humans after many generations of positive human stimuli. Or we could vote Obama in tomorrow and probably resort to hunting them again out of necessity.
