Twitter Pushes Back After Misleading Reuters Tweet: ‘One Lie Too Far’

In a sterling example of how radically social media has altered the political landscape since 2008, conservatives on Twitter are pushing back against perceived media bias in a coordinated, rapid manner after Reuters wrote what some are calling a misleading article about President Obama’s recent “revenge” comments.

The title was tweeted by Reuters’ Top News account: “As campaign roars to close, Romney and Obama talk ‘revenge’ http://reut.rs/X9dKIO.”

Though the Reuters article isn’t technically inaccurate, many were disappointed to find that the title equates President Obama’s and Mitt Romney’s comments– though Obama was the one to speak of voting for revenge, and Romney merely responded.

Twitter user Todd Kincannon, a South Carolina conservative who says he “dabbles” in politics, was so disgusted that he encouraged people to block Reuters as a way to show large media outlets that they can’t keep spinning the truth and retain a large audience.

Twitter users across the country began blocking the news network almost immediately, and the hashtag #BlockReuters began to circulate.

Twitchy captured some of the first tweets, mixed in with a few of our own:

According to Kincannon, who also aggregated many of the Twitter handles of those who wrote to say they’d followed his lead, droves have already blocked Reuters since Saturday.

People are still weighing in on the controversy, and some are even suggesting blocking news agencies like MSNBC over their admitted biases.

Others, however — while under no illusions about media bias in American politics– are uneasy with blocking opposing points of view.  Still, those who are blocking the network aren’t calling for such agencies to be shut down, they just won’t be contributing to their success.

What do you think?

It is a Global Agenda and has nothing to do with American Political Parties.

I like how America has begun to openly admit their knowledge to the liberal bias among the mainstream media. It’s embarrassing to the fools in charge of NBC, MSNBC, CNN, CBS, ABC, etc. and a bold signal that they will no longer be able to get away with their liberal ignorance. America wants truth and the majority of US are not nearly as incompetent as they are.

The Code of Ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists states:
Public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty. Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist’s credibility.

Its time to make them live up to their code of ethics.

“The very word “‘secrecy’” is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and to secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions. Even today, there is little value in insuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is a very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon by those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it is in my control. And no official of my Administration, whether his rank is high or low, civilian or military, should interpret my words here tonight as an excuse to censor the news, to stifle dissent, to cover up our mistakes or to withhold from the press and the public the facts they deserve to know.” – John F. Kennedy, New York City, April 27, 1961

“For we are opposed around the world by a monolithic and ruthless conspiracy that relies on covet means for expanding its sphere of influence–on infiltration instead of invasion, on subversion instead of elections, on intimidation instead of free choice, on guerrillas by night instead of armies by day. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material resources into the building of a tightly knit, highly efficient machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic, scientific and political operations.
Its preparations are concealed, not published. Its mistakes are buried not headlined. Its dissenters are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no rumor is printed, no secret is revealed.” – John F. Kennedy, New York City, April 27, 1961

Obama wants to get even ”’black liberation theology” claims that white are oppossors– therefore (since we can’t take up arms -as proposed by Shakespeare) then we vote to get revenge against those who oppress us. The right rev dr wrigth would very comfortable with these chickens,

Most media outlets might as well put their Obama pins on. There is no objective reporting in many of these media streams (i.e., MSNBC, CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS ……..) I will say that CBS is getting called on the carpet for some of the info that they had and failed to release when obtained.

Since the MSM are soldiers in the Far Left’s War on American Capitalism, I think conservative / rational Americans need to declare War on the MSM . They are ones who droned Obama on American by refusing to vet him and by covering up the corruption and misdeeds of the Obama Administration. The MSM has become the shock troops for our King George , the International Far Left . NOBAMA 2012

I agree that the American people seem too tired. Let’s remember where our rights came from and how hard it was to get here. So, as we cast our ballot, let’s give a patriotic Thank You to a fallen soldiers that gave the ultimate sacrifice for this country. Until the government decides that MSNBC or CNN is “too big to fail” and bails them out. It isn’t a stretch at all to imagine one of these outlets being owned, like GM, by government.

We’re one step away from living entirely within a government-manipulated media bubble.

America is tired. Tired of government. Tired of government-influenced media. Tired of the people who don’t understand politics or the issues, but vote anyway. We’re tired of stupidity and of being treated as if we’re stupid.

Our apathy toward this government’s authority shouldn’t be taken as apathy toward removing it. This administration has proven how government can become so corrupt that it loses the faith and support of the people.

I will not be paying any taxes if Obama wins. I will work like the illegals do; I will be paid in cash, I will rent my apartment, I will pay cash, I will barter, but I will no longer take part in such a corrupt system. Obama makes King George look like Gandhi.

America is tired of being lied to. Those who are supposed to tell us we are being lied to (the Mainstream Media) have lied too. The lock they had on news (now tabloid news) has been replaced by the Internet and FoxNews. Don’t let them take control of the Internet or we will have no reliable news. Our new job is to resist infringement of our freedoms. That includes the Republicans. Once they take control, we need to keep them in line too. No one should have too much power. Just in case, keep yur powder dry.
