(TheBlaze/AP) — After months of bickering between the general election candidates, the 2012 presidential show-down will officially come to a close today (or, hopefully, pending how close the election is – it will conclude in the coming days). Below, find five important things to watch out for as voters have their say in the presidential race between President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney:
1. WHO TURNS OUT? Not all votes are created equal. The presidential candidates have competed furiously for support in well-established battlegrounds and among constituencies each finds the most favorable. A robust turnout among minorities would favor Obama’s re-election; Romney needs to drive up his numbers among working-class white men, a group that has tilted his way in polls.

U.S. President Barack Obama speaks during his last rally the night before the general election November 5, 2012 in Des Moines, Iowa. The rally was held just outside Obama’s first headquarters from the 2008 campaign, where his first march to the White House started. Obama and his opponent, Republican presidential nominee and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are stumping from one ‘swing state’ to the next in a last-minute rush to persuade undecided voters. 2. LATE RALLIES? Obama starts and ends his day in his hometown of Chicago. Romney is in Boston to vote in the morning and take in returns at night, but making a trip in between to Ohio and Pennsylvania. Will the late rush sway votes? Will Obama follow suit?
3. DOES IT FALL TO NEVADA? Of the nine most contested states, five fall in the Eastern time zone, two are on Central time, one is on Mountain time and the last — Nevada — is on Pacific. That makes Nevada the last to close, three hours after the first polling place end times in the East. Will the outcome still be unclear by then? If so, Nevada could prove more important than previously imagined.

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney speaks during his final campaign rally at Verizon Wireless Arena on November 5, 2012 in Manchester, New Hampshire. A day before the election, Romney was making one final push through swing states.Credit: Getty Images
4. PROVISIONAL BALLOTS? Disputes over who is eligible to vote could leave some ballots in limbo. Both sides have armies of lawyers on duty to keep eyes on polling places. When there is a doubt, voters could wind up casting ballots that may not immediately figure into election-night tabulations. Will those ballots come into play later?
5. CALL ME MAYBE? Acrimonious as the campaign was, losing presidential candidates have a tradition of wishing the victor well once his fate is clear. Some calls are placed on election night. Others get put off until morning when the dust fully settles. Should either Obama or Romney wait up by their phones? Tradition says “yes,” but with the stakes so high this go-around, we’ll have to wait and see.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 4:50pmIf Obama wins tonight that means that there are more cool aid drinkers in this country than there are of us that want our Real America back. I believe God is on our side and Romney will win in a landslide. “God Bless America”, Home of the Free and Land of the Brave.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 3:44pmI am concerned about people in NY because many of the people are still without power and TV. My power came on last night, but many are still living in poor conditions without food and water. So how can these people vote if they can’t even get gas for their cars? There will be many that just don’t vote because they are so stressed. That is why I believe no matter who wins, there will be some sort of contesting of the vote due to the hurricane.
We were able to vote and of course we voted for Romney. My state always votes democrat. I don’t understand why they are liberal because our taxes are the highest in the nation. After this storm, people are very upset with Obama. So some of them might change to Romney if they are angry enough.

I’m betting many obama voters will be putting a check mark by “Romney/Ryan b/c of Sandy.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 1:30pmHard to believe voting day is finally here. I live in a state where we all vote absentee. I voted last week and dropped my ballot off at the ballot box (basically a differently painted mail box) with a prayer. It’s going to be a long day (or two). I keep telling myself “Thy will be done” to try and keep myself calm. It’s in His hands now. Blessings on all who vote!!!

Nov. 6, 2012 at 11:51pmBush took a real beating after Karina when he was certainly not totally responsible for the slow action in getting aid in there. Now here is Obama getting all this praise for such a “wonderful” job in responding to Sandy! Just what has he done? He went to NJ for his photo-op with Christie, a Romney fan, to show his bi-partisan standing (HA). The citizens in NJ and NY are still suffering badly with generators sitting and not being sent to them for dumb excuses like “they are too big-they are too small, etc.” How can anyone in that area praise the present administration for such a wonderful job in coming to their aid? I’m praying for all of you have lost so much and continuing to suffer after this terrible storm and the horrible fires. God Bless all of you. God Bless America and

Nov. 6, 2012 at 10:19amIt boggles my mind that this election should be reported as close. My God! Has many in America been on another planet for the past four years? By April 2009, Tea Party’s across the nation were in full bloom. And in the time sense, we have uncovered the Communist plot that put an unknown into the White House. And the election is said to be CLOSE? A Romney – Ryan election is a must and by 4-5 percent minimum. Any less, and the progressive lawyers and labor unions will be crawling up the butts of every Secretary of State in the country. In my 74 years I have never been more concerned for my country than this election cycle. May God continue to Bless the United States of America.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 11:17am@GrayPanther, I don’t get it either. But I actually saw a post yesterday from a friend that called Obama a man of integrity and likened him to a combination of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr, and Sidney Potier. And THEY didn’t understand how everyone could not be falling all over themselves to vote for him.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 9:11amJust finished voting (Arizona – show i.d. and check rolls to see if you got a mail in ballot). 12th in line when the doors opened. There were two people ahead of me who received mail in ballots, but claimed they didn’t mail them in. So off to the provisional table they were sent. If this is a concerted effort to multiple vote, I hope the State of Arizona charges anyone who votes twice. Oh, illegals stay home, you’re not allowed.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 1:19pmI don’t know how it is in Arizona, but in California if your name is on the absentee voter role, you have to vote by absentee ballot. These two people would have had to have their ballots in hand (the ones they received in the mail) ready to drop in the ballot box or they would have been kicked out of the polling place.

Nov. 6, 2012 at 8:58amWhy do dems fight voter ID? Are they so racist that they think a minority cannot obtain an ID? Any poor voter that obtains benefits from the government has an ID. They cannot get benefits without one. Unless of course they are in the country illegally. How many illegals will vote in this election?

One would think they have the lawyer armies in the battle ground states but few as they did not worry about them until September, like in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and even Connecticut to challenge the vote counts.
