Did Springsteen’s Call From Air Force One to Chris Christie Just Confirm That Obama Will Win?

Did Springsteens Call From Air Force One to Chris Christie Just Confirm That Obama Will Win?

Non-nonsense New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has been showing a softer side since Hurricane Sandy ravaged his homestate. The candid Republican has even drawn the ire of some conservatives for heaping effusive praise on President Obama for his handling of the crisis. Now, another unexpected love-fest has emerged between Christie and his longtime unrequited love, and fellow New Jersey counterpart, Bruce Springsteen. In fact, he was even moved to tears by a recent encounter.

Speaking Monday at a briefing on storm recovery, Christie explained how he, much to his surprise, spoke with “The Boss” earlier in the day. Christie had been discussing the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy with Obama when the president handed the phone to Springsteen, who was traveling with him on Air Force One as part of a campaign tour, according to the Associated Press.

Christie also revealed that he got a hug from the veteran rocker at Friday’s benefit concert for storm victims, and that he was deeply moved by the gesture. Springsteen, a staunch liberal, had never acknowledged the Republican governor before even though Christie has attended more than 100 of his concerts.

Christie acknowledged weeping at home after meeting his longtime idol.

“We hugged,” Christie said. “He told me it’s official: We’re friends. I told the president today, actually, that the hug was great and when we got home, there was a lot of weeping because of the hug. And the president asked why. I said, ‘Well, to be honest, I was the one doing the weeping.’ ”

Oddly, Christie, who still supports Governor Romney’s bid for the presidency and who was the keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention, reportedly turned down Romney’s request to join him at a Sunday-evening rally in Pennsylvania.

Romney campaign spokeswoman Gail Gitcho insisted the move was not a snub.

“He’s [Christie is] always invited to attend our events,” Gitcho told the Boston Globe. “We reached out to his staff to let them know that we would be in the area campaigning, but we never expected him to come because [he] is dealing with Sandy recovery.”

So could this gesture affect the presidential election? National Review’s Rich Lowry believes Christie’s latest antics have indeed hurt Romney, saying he agreed with a New York Post editorial begging the New Jersey governor to come out in an even stronger display of support for Romney.

“That kind of show of support might have been particularly important to Romney (and convenient for Christie) in the Philadelphia suburbs,” Lowry writes. “But now it’s too late.”

Watch Christie’s remarks below in which he acknowledges his tearful moment:

Republicans never cease to amaze me with their cowering to the enemy and trying to impress them. The enemy will never be impressed, just like the NBP will never be friendly to white people. The left is the only party that is consistent – they’re evil and they make no attempt to cover it. God please send us someone with the stones to boldly speak the truth no matter what the left and the media say about it. Send us someone with the spine to stand up for what is right and never stray from it. When you compromise with evil, evil wins.

OH GOOD GRIEF!!! COWERING TO THE ENEMY my Aunt Fannie!! Why are you making this such a big deal? Christie is a NJ boy. These are “HIS PEOPLE”…he loves his home state like nobody’s business!! Springsteen is an ICON…every young NJ fan worshiped Springsteen!! So, for a much younger Christie, meeting his Music Idol must have been one of his life’s “high points”.
But, here’s the deal: OBAMA, being OBAMA, did what he always does… drops in for the shallow
photo op and then….did nothing. The images of people without water, food, heat for days past when it was understandable – is a mirror to what Obama has done to America. GOOD GRIEF!! after Katarina, you’d think that these hot-shots would know they needed: WATER, FOOD, POWER – even if they had to drive those items in themselves.
The only thing OBAMA has done is ‘sell words’ but he has -0- character, -0- ability. He, like the snake in the Garden of Evil, he is a total deceiver. Christie was just reacting to the “headiness” of it all. The President calling him from AF 1; then his all-time NJ Idol, his desire to put NJ first, help his people. He tap danced for the devil…but he didn’t hurt Romney as it turned out… because this was ONE last chance for AMERICANS to see two things: 1) How INEPT “GOVERNMENT” is 2) What a liar and how incompetent OBAMA really is. GO VOTE. “Remember Benghazi”

SONICK….naw… it is just like the rebs and the yankees. One side always has a advantage they MUST capitalize on, while they can…..any way you look at it, it is a moral battle.
A moral person knows that abortionists, sexual deviants, and communists, whether they know it or not, are satanists, and have forfeited credibility and potentially their salvation. The left for all their pandering to their ‘proletariat’, in the end, represent death and destruction.

Who said anything about Springsteen? I get the whole hometown boy idol worship thing, but Springsteen and his opinions are of no signification to me whatsoever. I was referring to Christie’s (unearned) praise of Obama and the very fact that he is spineless enough to react “to the “headiness” of it all” and “tap dance with the devil,” as you put it. That is the very compromise I am talking about. The rest of what you said I agree with.

Christie is far more concerned with his own re-election than the future of this nation. Not surprising – he is a career politician after all. NJ will be going blue yet again, and I would not be surprised in the least to see Christie do the same sometime in the next 2 years. Sounds like someone is hedging thier bets.

Ridiculous. I don’t care how much you love Springsteen, the election is coming up and you are hurting your party and hurting the candidate you endorsed. Springsteen continues to use his fame to endorse the worst President in our country’s history. People boycott Walmart for less. And here we have one of the biggest names in the Republican Party basically saying he has a man-crush on the guy? Crying over a hug with him? And people on here making excuses for him? Makes no sense.

If you heard Springsteen’s original version of Born in the USA you can clearly understand it was a mocking of being born here. It was a depressing song. He kept the lyrics and hid the theme with change in music. It sounded more up beat and patriotic. Then cashed in on peoples thinking it was so.

She was seated on a stone wall, and I was standing right beside her. No one else was around, and I had the opportunity of a lifetime, to speak directly to her. All I could do was cry. I thought, “She’s heard all the wonderful words about how beautiful she is. Anything I say would be a waste of words.” So, I cried.

Ding! Ding! Ding! MOMRULES, you get the prize for the morning for the most on point reply! I could not have said it better myself!

Good morning Blazers! My daughter and I are heading to to polls right now in AZ. Hope to see ya all on the other side with a new President! Don’t get discouraged by ANY exit polls you see today, especially you middwest folks and westcoast folks. MSNBC and CNN are already acting as if this just purely academic and that it is already in the bag this morning.
Go out and give gentle but firm push to folks you know (heck, folks you don’t know) to go help us begin to save our country….

The damage is done. I am disappointed by Christie’s toadying up Springsteen. Hey, governor, you are the important person in that dynamic. Springsteen is just a barroom guitar player. You are the governor. He should by toadying up to you. But since you kissed up to the prez I guess he found you worthy of a hug after ignoring you all this time.

If you take a good look at Christie you will see his liberal roots. He may have some conservative economic views but he is a liberal at heart. He does not represent conservatives and would not have been a good choice of VP.
Christie pumped up the president before he actually saw the response he was getting. People are suffering in the storm torn area and FEMA is absent as usual. Janet from Homeland Security going around the area in a limo with a clipboard is not the help those people need!
Conservatives will remember Christie come the next election.

I have never understood why anyone can be so mesmerized by a celebrity, they are no better than anyone else. Entertainment celebrities are blessed with a God Given talent but are no better than anyone else. Many other celebrities are so simple because of an accident of birth.
I like some of springsteens music but in reality he is not a very good vocalist.
Gov. Christy needs to remember that it should be springsteen who should be impressed with the opportunity to meet him, there are only 50 states and 50 Governors. There have been literally thousands of singers and song writer, maybe 100s of thousands.

It is springsteen who should be crying because he was able to personally meet a sitting Governor of one of the Great States of the United States.

All this means is Chris Christie idolizes another man that he sees as better than himself. Newsflash Christie – Springsteen, Obama, Eastwood, Romney; they’re all just men. They just have different talents than you do and have used them to lesser or greater effect than you have (since I’ve never heard you sing). Enough with the hero worship.

It’s becoming clear that Romney made a wise decision to go with Ryan over Christie. He’s becoming a nice little puppy dog pet for Obama and Springsteen rolling on his back for a belly rub. The fact that he was in tears after meeting Springsteen shows who his true masters are. What a jackass.

It’s disheartening to see such strident rejection of people so quickly in today’s political world. Governor Christie set aside partisanship when it should be set aside – during times of calamity when everybody needs to work together to help other Americans who are suffering.

Then Christie talks about sharing a moment with an artist who meant so much to him growing up in New Jersey. These are cardinal sins? Is it not just as egregious for Paul Ryan to use Rage Against the Machine music on his campaign (along with countless other Republicans using “leftist traitor” music)?

When Romney wins, and I believe he will, and the debt continues to grow and he raises the debt ceiling and unemployment continues to hover around 8 percent and gas prices climb again and crazy Islamists continue to kill people – who are you going to hold responsible? You’re far too principled a lot to blame the previous administration. After all, that’s what weak liberal Commies do.

GONZO..I’ll give Christie the benefit of the doubt on this one. The human tragedy does indeed outweigh partisan politics. Would you or I have embraced Obama like that? Of course not..I detest the man and all his leftism and the creeps he’s surrounded himself with. Would I embrace Bruce Springsteen after he’s worked so hard to alienate conservatives and help Obama? No..I’d have been polite but kept a distance. But also Christie is notorious for wearing his emotions on his sleeve. I’ll give him a pass on this one..but yes..keep an eye on him from this point on. Dont’ forget..Christie is a governor of a very blue state if he doesn’t appear to be willing to work with democrats, he’ll be tossed out.
