Fla. Election Office Robocall Tells Voters They Have Until Wednesday to Cast Ballots

Thousands of Florida voters might mistakenly think they can cast ballots until Wednesday evening after an elections office accidentally told them so in a robocall issued Tuesday.
The Florida robocall glitch occurred in Pinellas County, location of St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay. Officials said the calls intended for Monday were wrongly recycled Tuesday, telling possibly thousands of voters they had until “7 p.m. tomorrow” to vote, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Here’s what happened:
On Monday, election officials sent out a reminder to 27,917 people saying ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. “tomorrow” — or Tuesday. But for reasons unknown, 12,525 of those calls wound up in a queue and were not placed until between 8 and 8:30 a.m. this morning.
By then, “tomorrow,” referred incorrectly to Wednesday.
Nancy Whitlock, spokeswoman for the county’s supervisor of elections, said officials immediately stopped the calls Tuesday morning when the problem was discovered and a second message went out telling voters to disregard the previous call.
Still, more than 12,500 people were called. Of those, the Tampa Bay Times reports only 215 didn’t get the corrected message yet.
Former Gov. Charlie Crist called the situation “unbelievable,” according to the Times.
St. Petersburg resident Kathie Spitzer told the Times that she “couldn’t believe it” when she heard the recorded message this morning. “It was very upsetting.”

Posted on November 7, 2012 at 12:20amFL has honest elections – It just has too many reality challenged voters. They see what they want to see and can not admit that they made a mistake 4 years ago. They will be the first to complain when Obama care goes into effect and they loose their jobs. Even then, it’s unlikely they will tie it to Obama. I don’t know how you reach people like that.

Posted on November 6, 2012 at 8:46pmWon’t matter if it’s investigated & they discover it was intentional by the Dem because they’ll just plead it was all a misunderstanding & a mistake. I voted early. Only way to go. Romney/Ryan for America.

Posted on November 6, 2012 at 8:55pmLet’s hope they’re listening to the broadcasts because I don’t believe they are extending the vote anywhere at this point. Although there was talk about Sandy victims being postponed but I don’t think it happened. Polls must be closed by now on the East coast. I’m in California unfortunately but we may not be much longer. I hate what this state has become. Good luck to everyone else.

Posted on November 6, 2012 at 5:13pmWell– Go ahead and give the 215 votes to obama. Make it 1,000 to accommodate the typical ‘vote 4 times’ fraud. He needs them and they won’t scratch the surface of the landslide anyway. 99% probablity this phenomena will appear across the Country as “evidence” of voter suppression on the behalf of Republicans. You can smell the stink of alinsky progressivism 1,000 miles away..

The Black Panthers need to find something useful to do besides try to intimidate people into thinking they have a legitimate chip on their shoulders.

Posted on November 6, 2012 at 9:07pmIsn’t Florida one of the biggest hotbeds of immigration fraud as well? Friend of mine moved there & kept begging us to follow but I don’t think we will. She said all you needed was a valid driver’s license & tools & you could get a job anywhere. Guess the valid driver’s license bit is a real problem for illegals. I’m all for photo ID verification & I have been carded at polling places here before. It’s not a big deal if you’re a bonafide US citizen.

Posted on November 6, 2012 at 9:13pmMy son just called from work & asked for a local polling place. We were informed we don’t have one because there are not enough people in our district which is pretty strange considering this is a town of over 100,000 people but hey, I voted early anyway & I just sent him to our old polling place which is still going on. When in doubt look it up online or call a friend or neighbor. Find a way to cast your choice.

Posted on November 6, 2012 at 4:21pmHow much more proof do you need……no matter which side of the aisle you are on….that the government can screw up anything it gets into. The sad part in this is there are 2 possible “stories” from this. If the calls went to democrats it will be a huge voter suppression scandal, if the calls went to republicans it will be just a “honest mistake”
Integrity, transparency, and accountability….the things we expect from government are the only things we get none of from government. So…….what do we do? Well,…… the less government we have, the less chance for trouble…..make sense?
