Did David Axelrod Just Undercut Biden’s Claim of a ‘Mandate’ to Raise Taxes?

Senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod on Thursday called it “foolish” and “generally untrue” when presidents claim to have a “mandate” after they’re elected — just one day after Vice President Joe Biden said Obama had earned a “clear sort of mandate” on taxes.

“On this issue of particularly the fiscal cliff, presidents always say ‘I have a mandate, I have a mandate.’ That’s a foolish word and it’s generally untrue,” Axelrod said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” referring to the looming year-end deadline that will trigger higher taxes and abrupt spending cuts unless the president and Congress can come to an agreement.

Still, Axelrod said Obama “did campaign all over this country” about “the need for balanced deficit reduction,” including some new tax revenue.

“He was re-elected by, you know, in a significant way so I think that hopefully people will read those results and read them as a vote for cooperation,” Axelrod said. “If the attitude is that nothing happened on Tuesday, that would be unfortunate.”

Biden told reporters on Wednesday that with regard to taxes, the will of the voters was clear.

“On the issue of the tax issue, there was a clear, a clear sort of mandate about people coming much closer to our view about how to deal with tax policy,” Biden said.

He also said he hoped there would be “some real soul-searching” from Republicans about what they’re willing to cooperate on.

Biden was one of the best excuses not to vote for Obama. Don’t worry though, the person Obama doesn’t do anything until consulting with will be appointed if Biden goes senile. That is Valerie Jarret who just got back from secret talks with in her home country – Iran.

The Fraud that is Obozo and Valerie Jarrett intertwined is proof of the globalist takeover. Obozo was and is a bigger failure that Carter. He is different because he is a brown man. The Obozo re-election was about stealing 5 to 10 million votes from Voters and Obozo ran on being cool and not another Carter. Obozo just wanted to win, so his legacy would be about a non failure historic first black president.

Maybe now the mainstream media will still start reporting Biden’s weekly statement of idiocy. I can’t believe that this loud mouthed goofball is the VP. A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

The political soap opera no longer matters. It’s a distraction. Who cares, essentially, who undercuts who, what knife stabs in what back? They can do what they wish, when they wish, how they wish. The continuation of the soap opera is for the slack jawed types that think it still matters. The mob is now in charge. Boehner has already signaled that he’s quite happy to bend us over as “our leader”. This is all a game for entertainment.

It’s all pure folly. The math simply doesn’t work.

The government took in 2.2 TR in 2011.

The government spent 3.8 TR in 2012.

Of the 3.8, it went to 3 buckets. Defense, Discretionary and Entitlement (mandatory)

If we took Defense to 0 and Discretionary to 0…essentially fire the military and every government worker not hired to give out transfer payments…we’d still run about a 200 Billion dollar deficit.

Now, if you cut nothing and wanted to get there by raising taxes, that is folly too. Over time we’ve never managed to collect more than 20% of GDP in income tax. Total collections run from 17 to 20 percent of GDP even when we had 90% marginal tax rates after WWII. So to think you can increase revenue is just fantasy. But, for sake of argument let’s say we could. In order to balance the budget, people making 100K to 200K would have to pay an EFFECTIVE federal (no state, local, or usage included yet) rate of 40%. For people making over 200K they would have to have an effective rate of 70%. This assumes that they all keep doing exactly what they are doing. Meaning that they would actually get paid what they are paid but would end up BELOW median national income.

    FORWARD!!!!

I am still trying to figure out why 50% of those in the military in Norfolk voted for Obama and his little “yes” boy Kaine when the defense spending cuts will result in over 200,000 jobs being lost in that area. Well I have a good idea of why they voted that way and lets just say they weren’t judging Obama based on his character but more like the color of his skin.

I also don’t know why so many people in Northern VA voted for him becuase there are a lot of Defense Contractors up there and many will probably lose their jobs….has anyone heard about Boeing cutting their staff?

However, that is what they wanted in VA, it just sucks because VA is turning into a blue state and I am stuck here for a while.

GONZO…you’re being far too optimistic. We have an electorate that votes on feelings rather than facts.
Obama has already indicated that once in a second term and not beholden to the voter he will allow himself more “flexibility”. We are in for a very gutwrenching four years under an Obama who believes he do as he wishes. Worse yet..and make no mistake..he’ll set it up for every like minded liberal following him to have the same “freedoms” he’s enjoying.
The republic just got it’s notice on November 6, 2012 and if the GOP and it’s supporters can’t strategize to stop this movement in the public psyche, then the choices won’t be “conservative/liberal” anymore..they’ll be “soft liberal/hard liberal” just like Australia, NZ, the UK and Europe.
I believe Hannity when he says ‘the call will go out and conservatism will answer the call”…but that’s because the electorate wants “stuff”..in this case..a bandaid for their boo boo. Once that’s fixed…it’s back to this nightmare unless we get into a vigorous groundgame and start winning hearts and minds.
Now..I’m expecting Obama to send us into another recession which will essentially evaporate the democrat brand next election..but that’s temporary. As I said..the Attention Deficit Disorder electorate will forget unless we re-educate them.

It doesn’t have to be that way GONZO but unless we can do what the left has done..that is to effect changes in the public psyche then you’re looking at Australiasian/UK/European style politics from here on.
Now there’s a few glimmers of hope…about 2 million that voted for McCain stayed home for Romney we need to ask why. My guess is evangelicals and Ron Paulites. Also..Obama got less votes this time around we need to ask why also. But it’s always going to favour the democrats until we change the public hearts and minds. That means undercutting the media for a start and launching the same localized groundgame the left has done for decades.
My cynical side says that the GOP house should do everything Obama requests of them from here on and let the country fall into despair as a result, but I love this country and it’s people too much to ask for that kind of pain and humiliation to be inflicted on them. That’s the difference between conservatives and leftists..leftists seek to inflict pain and government dependence to gin up unrest and votes. Conservatives would rather do the proper thing even if it’s not politically expedient to do so. Of course I’m speaking broadly here.

I’m not so sure we have any choice in the matter, Obama’s policies are going to force a collapse. I think it’s coming no matter what we do now that Barry is in for four more.

Absolutely GONZO..we’re looking at a lost decade with Obama now. Futhermore, he’s too rigid, narcissistic and stupid to do what Clinton did..he also doesn’t enjoy a GOP congress to get anything accomplished. Harry Reid has already thrown down the gauntlet..it’s back to his usual shennanigans. The media will blame the GOP house for the fallout that’s to come.
We saw an electorate that said “he hasnt’ done that great a job but he’s trying and he knows my plight” and voted the incompetent boob back in and he genuinely believes he’s got a mandate to turn us into a western European style socialist state. The first domino to fall in his second term will be the DREAM act. All that’s stopping it right now is the GOP house and if the midterms change that situation into a Democrat congress again..the nation is facing disaster. If in two years the economy is further in the toilet you may see the GOP take back the Senate. Small mercies.

“The media will blame the GOP house for the fallout that’s to come.” Exactly why I say give him whatever he wants. Republicans just vote “present” as Comrade Obama did for so long. In retrospect (and with hindsight) it may have been better for the country if Obama had held both sides of Congress in 2010. He would have had no one to blame for his failures. We didn’t stop Obamacare anyway.

Goal 1–Convince 99% of people that 1% do not pay enough taxes.–DONE!
Goal 2–Convince 72% of people that 28% do not pay enough taxes.–Coming!
Goal 3–Convince 51% of people that 49% do not pay enough taxes.–Civil War!

INCREASING TAX RATES AND INCREASING TAX REVENUES ARE NOT THE SAME THING

increasing tax rates will not necessarily increase REVENUES ……….and almost always result in DECREASED revenues

but it sure sounds nice if you base your decisions on FEELINGS and ENVY

When 51% of the populous is absolutely ignorant and mindlessly willing to blindly follow hollow words, emply promises and evil rhetoric, its an easy sell.
