Blogger Andrew Sullivan: Fox News Needs to Be ‘Demonized’ and ‘Cut Off’ Along With ‘Poison on the Discourse’ Rush Limbaugh

Daily Beast blogger Andrew Sullivan said Friday that Fox News needs to be “demonized” and “cut off” along with “poison on the discourse” Rush Limbaugh.
“The first conservative who will be the future of that [Republican] party will be the one who says Rush Limbaugh does not speak for the Republican Party, he is a poison on the discourse,” Sullivan said on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher.” “You see the media industrial complex on the right is so lucrative, they don’t want to lose him and it is now controlling a political party. That has to be severed, Fox News has to be demonized, has to be cut off.”
TheBlaze’s S.E. Cupp, also a guest, asked, “So we’re making arguments now to cut off speech instead of adding on?”
Sullivan said he was referring just to Republicans, not “everybody.”
“The Republican Party has to say, ‘We have no part of Fox News,’” he said.
Sullivan claimed last month that if Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney were to win Virginia and Florida, the “Confederacy” would be back.

Posted on November 10, 2012 at 2:57pmThank you, Faith1029. All that is taking place today has long been prophesied. Toward the end of the 1st Century, Paul wrote about itching ears (applicable to both secular & non-secular): “For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.” (II Timothy 4:3, NIV) Our Lord Jesus mandated in his revelation to John: “Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” (Revelation 1: 3, NIV)

I’m currently on the Book of Isaiah and it is very telling. As dismal and depressing as this week has been, and the knowledge that we will be forced to live in a Marxist Amerika under a tyrant elected by “Takers”, the Bible has been a comfort. And the rosary. Being Catholic, I feel that the liberal agenda is sick-minded and has even usurped the Catholic Church. Rush Limbaugh is not the problem in the Republican Party and he never has been. He holds them accountable. He nails Boehner, Graham, McConnell, and the Olympia Snows of the elitist wing of the Republican party. These people are the problem with the party. There is no other answer, but a third party with ultra conservative, fiscal guard dogs who adhere to the strict principles of the Constitution and who come to Washington to do the people’s will and not leave Washington as million or billionaires.

I would argue the exact opposite. The GOP needs to acquire more outlets and organizations to get their message out. The Blaze is a good start. The Dems are very good at coordinating their talking points no matter who is talking. The GOP not so much. It would help if the GOP had their own Hollywood hype machine too. What is is really saying is that he works hard as a pundit, writer & editor to make money, lives in a high cost of living metropolis, so why are you making my life so hard by taking my money and giving it to a person who works naught.
Conservatives are not against charity or welfare, but believe that what Benjamin Franklin believed. there cannot be a social safety hammok (instead of a net). The poor must not be made to comfortable. As Rush Limbaugh, who Sullivan reviles in knee jerk fashion, has said we spend $60K on every poor person or/family. Why is there a problem? It should have been fixed long ago.
The problem is is that Sullivan has not studied economics in systematic & rigorously mathematical fashion. As such he does not understand Supply-Side Economics & is thus doomed to failure for the foreseeable future.

Posted on November 10, 2012 at 3:29pmTxson: Rush in his witty way did once suggest that Republicans should replace the levees in New Orleans with bags of money, which would then be stolen by poor people (read, black people), leaving the city vulnerable to a hurricane, which would then wipe it out, leaving Louisiana with an even more reliable Republican majority than before. This and other pronouncements from the Attila the Hun Chair at the very least suggest a callous indifference to human life, provided it is of a dusky hue.
Metallicat & RjjingGadsden: Yes, Sullivan is a Republican who has never renounced the party as such. In the primaries, he backed Ron Paul, though he ended up backing Obama in the general elections.

Posted on November 10, 2012 at 3:56pmSome further thoughts on Rush. Many times I’ve expressed myself to the effect that he is one of the greatest radio presences, and one of the greatest propagandists, of all times, worthy to be ranked with Dr. Goebbels–and I mean that as a compliment! His wit is merciless, and often dead on, especially when he is skewering liberal smugness and hypocrisy over things like multiculturalism and the environment.
The trouble is that his brilliance at rallying the troops is increasingly irrelevant in the country at large. Yesterday, for example, as conservatives from Hannity to Krauthammer were walking back their previous opposition to amnesty for illegals, he came up with a wickedly funny suggestion: immediate amnesty for all illegals, provided they disclose the length of their illegal stay and are barred from voting for as many years. An Indian student who overstayed his visa by 2 years? No vote for you for 2 years. A Guatemalan small businessman here illegally since 1990? No vote for you for 22 years.
Of course, he wasn’t serious; he was advancing a hard-core anti-illegal policy while making fun of the backsliders. He’s one of those who thinks immigration policy is less important to Latinos than “stuff.” But don’t suppose recordings of that little performance haven’t been set aside for future use with Latinos when the electoral time is right.
