FBI Source: Petraeus Case Held Until After Election to Not Hurt Obama Politically

Outgoing CIA Director Gen. David Petraeus’ resignation over an extramarital affair was reportedly held until after Tuesday’s election to avoid “potential embarrassment” for President Barack Obama, according to Newsmax.

FBI agents learned of the affair while monitoring Petraeus’ emails out of concern that the woman, Petraeus biographer Paula Broadwell, may have had access to his personal account, the Associated Press reported.

But an FBI source told Ronald Kessler, the author and journalist who broke the Secret Service prostitution scandal, that rather than having Petraeus resign immediately, the decision was made to hold it until after the election for political purposes:

[T]he White House, with concurrence by the FBI and Justice Department, held off on asking for Petraeus’ resignation until after the election. His resignation occurred three days after the election, avoiding the possibility that Obama’s ill-fated appointment of Petraeus could become an issue in the election.

FBI agents on the case were aware that such a decision had been made to hold off on forcing him out until after the election and were outraged.

β€œThe decision was made to delay the resignation apparently to avoid potential embarrassment to the president before the election,” an FBI source says. β€œTo leave him in such a sensitive position where he was vulnerable to potential blackmail for months compromised our security and is inexcusable.”

Michael Kortan, the FBI’s assistant director for public affairs, said he had no comment.

The precise timeline of the FBI investigation and discovery of the affair is still unclear. The Wall Street Journal reported that the email investigation began “late this spring” but that Petraeus wasn’t interviewed until “recently.”

Despite Kessler’s report that the White House “held off” on asking for Petraeus to step down until after the election, the Associated Press reported that administration officials were first notified of the affair on Wednesday, the day after the election, and that Obama wasn’t informed until Thursday morning.

Efforts to contact the FBI’s national press office Saturday were unsuccessful.

    “Efforts to locate the FBI national press office Saturday were unsuccessful .” Gee, isn’t it amazing that this was leaked to the media on Friday afternoon ?? Petraeus, who said that no one in the CIA had given any s’stand down” orders , was due to appear before a congressional committee about the conflicting stories about the deaths in Benghazi/ calls for help. Do the time line folks to give you a deep insight into the utter deviousness of the Obama Administration : the FBI started to investigate Petraeus last spring over a ” mistake” about corruption and a desk ; the White House first was told of this on Wednesday, two days after the election and Obama was told on Thursday , three days after the election. AND the information was given to the media Friday AFTERNOON, four days after the election. So WHO was hiding the information ? The FBI ? Someone in the Obama Administration ? Or is someone LYING in the FBI or the Obama Administration ? Who knew what and when and WHY was Petraeus’ affair being leaked AFTER the election but BEFORE he testifies. THIS STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN ( don’t mean to offend the Left with that last word – my bad )

      This is bigger MAJ JILL METZGER having a psychic break and running around naked in the Muslim country of Kyrgyzstan. Petraeus is a 4 star general. He might not be on active duty, but I believe he is still in a reserve status. Paula Broadwell is definitely a reserve (05) Lieutenant Colonel.
      I don’t know how the military handles it, but to get to the bottom of the Benghazi massacre, I would cut a deal & let them off light.

      Team D (democrat) has got to pay for its’ dilettante approach to foreign policy, lying & malfeasance!

      This would be the smoking gun on why we need on voter ID. Even the European observers who were he said we needed voter ID.

      The story on the 10 more votes cast than voter in Madison or Milwaukee during the Walker recall election is hard to find.

      We need to hammer the point home & beat them until they give up stealing elections

    This is ludicrous. An investigation shouldn’t be held to prevent embarrassment, especially for the highest office in the land. We need people of integrity and Obama isn’t providing it. Is there a way we can use this for a revote with all the dirty laundry out for all to see.

      If you hold an FBI investigation of cabinet officials & top staff, if you hold news of the Iranians shooting at our aircraft over international waters, there is a pattern.

      It would be very easy thru back channels to arrange stuff & thru formal channels to say I just found out.

      But Obama & company will fool enough people long enough that they will get away with their shock & surprised routine.

    Wow. Surprise surprise! They no longer care. Election won by whatever it took, country divided, useful idiots prevail. We will now see an escalation of Obama’s socialist agenda that openly promotes islamicism. That, my friends involves suppression of information. Benghazi coverup or not, Obama and his sychophant leaders, drunk with power, do not care that we know or how it “looks”.

    There is no doubt Obama had the MSM in the tank. Why not the FBI, CIA or any other agency? Impeachment proceedings hopefully trap some of them too. Worse thing is that this was all known BEFORE the election. But as they say in my country, if you didn’t vote, don’t whinge about the outcome.

    It is the Benghazi issue that drove this, not embarrassment. That isn’t many dots to connect. Thank God for Fox News keeping the pressure on. People chose with their eyes wide open despite all the efforts of BO’s crowd to hide the evil. All this stuff does is reconfirm to us that we were right. The issues for me were never the economy, etc. Those would have been taken care of by purging the corruption in the Oval Office.

General Carter Ham of Africon (U.S. Command in Africa) and Admiral James Stavridis, Commander, U.S. European Command and NATO Supreme Allied Commander. Not only were Africon assets available,our forces in Southern Italy (Adm. Stavridis’s command) did not get orders either. Amd. Stavridis is reportedly retiring. The third commander, Rear Admiral Charles Gaouette is the Commander of the Stennis Strike Group that is currently stationed in the Middle East. This carrier group does not currently have a commander since the Navy re-called Adm. Gaouette from deployment (highly unusual). He is currently “under investigation for questionable judgement”.
      ODD and alarming that all three had command of those that could have provided aide in the Benghauzi attack and now (or soon to be) two are relieved of command and the third under internal Naval investigation. It seems to add up that they did not agree with the White House and have been replaced. “

      Compare East Germany to west: same language, culture and geography – yet East Germany – with free healthcare, free education, free pensions (and so on) became poorer and poorer as it became less free — while West Germany became the economic powerhouse of Europe. East Germans became serf’s – poor and un-free — a people indentured to the state – as the traveled down the road of socialism, the road the serfdom…

      Obama’s policies are having the same effect on the usa economy as these polices had in East Germany and Attlee’s Britain.

      NOTE: Neither Greece or Spain or Portugal – (or East Germany or the USSR or Red China or Cuba or Zimbabwe or North Korea for that matter) – had “Bush tax cuts or “2 unfunded wars” or “GOP “top-down’ deregulation for the greedy 1%” – as Obama liked to say.

      The economic disasters the nations ALL faced were ALL caused by SOCIALISM – which reduces liberty and therefore reduces the prosperity, the economic growth which ONLY liberty produces

    Wow, I would have never thought that a president with the “most transparent administration” would stoop this low. Wait a minute. On second thought, it was a foregone conclusion that he would hide anything that might cause his halo to slip just before an election. The sad part is, most of his voters either wouldn’t care, or wouldn’t even find out about it.

    If this story was going to cause political embarrassment for Obama why did he parade around with Slick Willie. Was he not embarrassed by him? This administration, actually the whole DNC clan are an embarrassment to the country. This article would make me laugh if it didn’t tick me off so much. The only way Obama won was by lies from the media and fraud and we will never totally investigate that. I will never believe we have so many insane brainwashed people in the US..

      Well this president pushed a story that the Ft Hood shooting was a “workplace violence” act. obama proceeded to track down al Awlaki, Hasan’s mentor and cleric and drop a Hellfire missile on him. How convenient. Then he killed al Awlaki’s 15 yr old AMERICAN son a week later by another missile. Perhaps on the fear the father told the son something embarrassing?
      Shorty after the Libyan consulate fiasco, Egyptian forces kill one of the suspects of that attack, again convenient.
      Now another administration disaster and the FBI sat on it? This smacks of coverup. Perhaps witht the implication of a bad accident for one of his family members. Obama is old school gangster Chicago politics. The same type that killed the Kennedy brothers and MLK, for bucking their policies. Why of all things to carry did LBJ carry the oath of office in his jacket pocket. I don’t beleive in coincidences.
