Fortune Mag Thinks 1000s Of Small Banks Could Close, Even More Companies Reported To Be Laying Off Workers Or Closing Outlets

On Friday, TheBlaze reported on a spate of post-election layoffs and company closing announcements. Sadly, that trend appears to be continuing.

Fortune Magazine says that in the wake of Obama’s re-election, thousands of banks are at risk, with small banks taking the biggest beating:

Now that President Obama has been re-elected, analysts, consultants and dealmakers have turned from whether Dodd-Frank will be repealed to what it means for banks now that it’s likely here to stay. The overwhelming conclusion: Thousands of small banks will soon disappear.

But the banks are not the only group at risk. Companies in all areas are still having a difficult time with the economy.

John Schnatter, the CEO of Papa John’s Pizza announced to the press that Obama’s second term and the full enforcement of Obamacare would likely force him to cut the hours of many workers and add costs to his operation. Those costs would be passed on to consumers.

Here are the latest companies that announced layoffs:

Mills Manufacturing NC – 68 workers laid off -

A western North Carolina company that makes parachutes and other supplies for the military is laying off 68 workers by the end of the year.

TECO Coal Corporation – 90 workers laid off

TECO Coal Corporation is cutting back production and shedding jobs. Company personnel director Paul Matney told the station no mines are closing, but manpower and staffing is being trimmed to match reduced production from the mines. Matney said the layoffs are at several locations and are the result of economic conditions in the coal market.

Energizer Holdings Inc – 1,500 or 10% of workforce

Energizer Holdings Inc said on Thursday that it would cut more than 10 percent of its workforce, or about 1,500 people, as it tries to rev up results in its battery business. A restructuring at the company, which also makes Schick razors, was in the works for months. In September, Energizer said it planned to cut jobs and expenses but until Thursday it had not disclosed details of the plan.

Update: Exide Technologies in Laureldale – 150 workers furloughed

Exide Technologies announced Thursday that it will be idling its lead-recycling operations in Laureldale and laying off 150 workers, effective no later than March 31. Idling means that all of the permits and approvals will be kept up to date and the plant will be maintained in case Exide wants to reopen it later, said Susan Jaramillo, spokeswoman for Exide.

Southeastern Container – 15 workers affected, but plant closing is in the works

Southeastern Container has notified the state (NY) that it plans to lay off 15 employees as the first of three phases toward what the state called a “plant closing.”

The company employs 65 at the local plant. The first wave of 15 are to go out in February, the company’s notice said.

The SCA plant in Barton – Plans Staff Reductions through 2015

The SCA plant in Barton (AL) will begin reducing staff immediately, and the cuts will continue through 2015. SCA officials confirmed they are cutting jobs, at not only the Barton facility, but at locations around the world. They’re calling it a “global cost and productivity program,” and it will be implemented over the next three years.

Yakima Regional Medical Center Washington – 10+ workers

YAKIMA, Wash. — At least ten Yakima Regional Medical Center employees will soon be looking for a job. The cuts are coming from the business department as part of a reorganization. Some workers will be relocated to Arkansas to consolidate and cut costs. Hospital administrators did not want to comment before speaking with employees and the union.

Crouse Hospital Syracuse NY – 70 Jobs

Crouse Hospital announced Thursday another round of cuts as it considers significant challenges down the road due to healthcare reform. Seventy jobs – 23 that were vacant – were cut on Thursday, including nursing, nursing support and non-nursing positions.

Update: DuPont Co in Richmond VA – 64 to go before 2013

DuPont Co. plans to cut 64 jobs in the Richmond area as part of a larger corporate restructuring announced in October. The affected jobs are salaried positions, a company spokeswoman said Friday. DuPont notified state officials through a WARN act notice, which said the cuts would by occur by Dec. 31.

Penn Refrigeration – number of workers idled – 40

A long-time family owned business has laid off practically all if its workers in Luzerne County. The owner tells us, Penn Refrigeration just outside of Wilkes-Barre cut back about 40 employees Friday.

After more than 60 years of business, workers tell Newswatch 16 the company is closing its doors for good. But the owner says Penn Refrigeration is not closing, just cutting back, and blames the layoffs on “extremely bad economic conditions.”

Wilkes-Barre PA – Municipal Worker Layoffs Likely

Mayor Tom Leighton said during the (city council) meeting that the cutbacks in the city’s workforce will extend beyond mandatory furloughs that will likely be announced today. ”We’re going to have layoffs before the end of the year,” Leighton said. “We’ll have layoffs.”

American Coal – 54 workers get layoff notices

A local coal mine is cutting jobs and blaming it on politics. American Coal in Galatia laid off 54 miners on Wednesday, saying President Barack Obama’s re-election is bad news for the coal industry.

“There is no question that the United States coal industry is being destroyed by the actions of Barack H. Obama,” said Bob Murray, CEO of Murray Energy, during the Old King Coal Festival in September.

New Energy Corp. Indiana – Plant Shut Down Idles 40

New Energy Corp. President Russ Abarr tells the South Bend Tribune the plant shut down last week, idling 40 employees. Abarr says an undetermined number of workers will stay on the job as the plant that opened in 1984 prepares to remain idle for at least several months.

erm…@ Do Not Panic All is Well

In “At Will” states, employers do not need to have a reason to “not hire” someone – just as it should be.

Regardless of talent, I will not hire someone I cannot send into a law firm’s offices, or a financial services center, or a private medical or dental practice. If the candidate is nasty looking with freak-show tattoos and piercings, or whacked out ****, etc… they are denied employment.

It is an employer’s right to set and maintain standards. Forgetting to shave or trim facial **** in my companies is taboo and will get a man sent home. I’ll pay him for the day, but he best not make a habit of it.

You’re 100% correct. I didn’t hire many people for various reasons. There was the younger than me White woman who complained that the staircase to business office was exhausting. Then there was the young White girl who showed up for her interview in a high school prom dress. Also, the White guy who reeked of alcohol didn’t get hired.

I did hire the Black guy with actual skills I needed, and had a good brain in his head. I hired a lesbian that did excellent work. I made a mistake of hiring one of two homosexual men. One guy did a great job, the other guy was arrested because he was a homosexual AND a pedophile.

It’s very easy to find out what people’s beliefs are in a job interview. I know because I’m practiced at it.

I’m no longer a business owner, but if I still was, there is no way that I’d hire an Obama supporter. I could easily find another reason for why they weren’t hired.

My sons have their own construction company. They have all the work they want and only hire experienced operators that are married and have insurence under the spouse. They are and will stay under the 25 employees that the government mandates to provide insurence. They have to interview kids from the local Votech that come in and demand to be started out at $18.00 an hour and put on a $80,000 backhoe with little experience. My sons don’t start new experienced employees out at $18.00 an hr.

It is hard time for employers to even considering hiring. With all the new taxes that are coming and the anti business attitude of the white house employers will lay off or cut hours. The times coming will make the great depression look not so great because we are heading into worst times.

I had such high hopes before November 7th, and my guess is so did every business, large, medium and small. Soon, the only people that will have jobs will be governmental employees, and since most are in public unions, they’ll be grossly overpaid for the work they do.

The taxpayers are already required to pay for these overpaid government clogs, so what happens when middleclass Americans no longer have a job?

I am so disappointed that we still have Obama Care, Dobbs-Frank, an out of control EPA, and especially that moron in the White House. There was hope before the election. Now there is none.

I have suggestions for all of us. Don’t hire anyone who is Hispanic for anything. Not to mow your lawn and not for your business. Don’t hire any never married woman. Don’t hire any homosexual. Don’t hire any Black person, unless they can prove that they didn’t vote for Obama.

However, I would like to know how I could prove to you, in a job situation, that I voted for Romney/Ryan? Who is going to come in and ‘forgive’ 30% of the Federal Debt??? What, we just default on China and see what they do? What if they hold iPhone 5 hostage for the debt, or hold it hostage to the new Chinese solar panel tariff? The solar panel problem started when Obamanomics offered HUGE subsidies for people to install solar panels! China responded by flooding the market with cheap panels, shutting down legacy U.S. suppliers that have been around in one form or another through earlier boom and bust cycles–also fueled by Federal Subsidies! Funny how the solar industry just can’t seem to grow on its own! Unlike the Japanese, who bought real estate in that boom and bust, only to be busted out of their investments, the Chinese bought large quantities of U.S. Debt, and I’ll bet they are going to be p1$$ed when they find out we plan to do the same thing to them that we did by forcing the banks to ‘forgive’ huge quantities of credit card debt–only in the case of China, we don’t plan to hand them billions in Obamabucks! Or, maybe they will–freshly printed Federal Reserve Notes!

good…im glad thousands may be laid off. I know im goin get yelled at but hear me out. the ONLY reason liberals keep surviving and can survive is because conservatives foolishly keep playing by the rules the libs set up and then bail the libs out when the policies the sibs support naturally fail. we cannot keep bailing out our liberal children from the ‘tiajuanna jail cell’ of life and expect them to ever grow up or learn anything. the majority foolishly voted Obama back in. we conservs will have a hard enough time with the payback the libs plan for us..yes there will be payback. we need to focus on taking our country back by any and all means, NOT bailing out spoiled elitist brats who hate us anyways. let them suffer, let them go hungry, let them feel the consequences of the actions they support and let them finally feel the ‘opression’ they constantly cry about. the more obama fails…the worse things get the better it will be for us. its time to stop playing by the biased rules they set up for us and start playing to win. Its time for some tough love and wipe the smug ‘better than you’ expressions from every lil progressives lips and replace it with the fear of life uncertain and responsibility.

      Patriot Z,

You are almost there. The problem which no one is willing to admit is in the framework of the Constitution itself. Think about this – Ronald Reagan was the greatest conservative president. Under his presidency he rolled back taxes, defeated communism, increased America’s productivity. This only lasted until Clinton got in and then it started further decline towards Euro Socialism. The fraud is when any party says “we just need to elect more of our people.” If the Constitution was a proper government structure, how is it possible that we get our current situation? How is it possible the people must rely on “electing the right people” and not that those elected are forced to do the right thing? Only a return to the states as true sovereigns and a refusal to submit to any further federalized socialism will we see any positive change!

You 60,000,000+ that re-elected that clown along with the 2 mil+ that sat the election out have no idea what you have done. Every week something new is coming out that was hidden DLEIBERATELY to help his majesty’s re-election. You had your chance to rid the country of this corrupt regime but you chose free stuff that no one has the money to pay for instead.

Most of these companies imo were waiting to see if Romney got it and MAYBE would have hheld off, but obviously since 0 got back in they moved forward with their plans. If you are unemployed or longterm unemployed like myself there is no hope now of finding work. You obamaroids are going to pay for this when its your turn and your job/livelihood are on the line.

So WHEN you lose your job understand its not your boss or the owner of the company’s fault. Its your fault for being so selfish and ignorant. Whe you want to screen, holler and point fingers look in the mirror!

In another year or two, I wager we cannot find anyone who will admit they voted for the JACKAPPLE, and her husband. This is a crying shame….the jerk hasn’t even finished his first term and in preparation for his second, massive layoffs and closings are being announced….his victory speech= our nation’s forfeit.

When the Federal government creates special classes of persons and seeks to protect them by passing “hate crimes”, when the Federal government passes laws that penalizes the free exchange of ideas by requiring broadcasters to give equal time to opposing viewpoint, this government arguably engages in conduct strictly prohibited by the U.S. Constitution, when the Federal government seeks to deny law-abiding citizens ownership of guns, it violates the 10th Amendment, and it renders Citizens of the States defenseless against the abuses of Federal government power. It is the duty of the Federal government to protect and defend the Constitution and citizens of the several States, but instead of passing laws that protect lawful conduct, the Federal government by denying lawful possession of all types of weapons, has passed laws that deny State citizens the reasonable opportunity to also defend themselves against threats to their lives by lawless individuals and gangs. Given the history of gang violence using illegally obtained weapons, it is ludicrous to believe that a law prohibiting the sale of certain guns will do anything other than prevent law-abiding individuals from obtaining weapons of self defense. The government that denies ownership of guns to law-abiding citizens violates the supreme law of the land and a basic and valuable freedom.

When a political party nominates and then elects a person born with DUAL citizenship instead of the Constitutionally mandated “Natural Born citizenship status to the Presidency, is anything else that they do surprising?

We are heading towards an economic collapse that will result in an armed revolt and probably the dissolution of the country.

There is no Constitutional procedure for State secession from the Union; however, no State is prevented from separating from the union under penalty of law. While the Declaration of Independence is not controlling law, it is more persuasive then Foreign Law which is very popular among the liberal judiciary. The Declaration states that it is not only a private right, but also a duty of the governed to abolish or alter the government when government becomes abusive. If you prefer we can look at ancient Greek and Hebrew writings for authority to show that the right to self-governance has always been considered inalienable. We have a tradition that dates back to ancient times, and are for example immortalized in the Virginia State Flag that Thomas Jefferson designed. It shows Athena, the female worrier, victorious in battle and standing over the splayed body of the tyrant Zeus, the god of law. Although Zeus imposed onerous burdens upon humanity, he was above the law and was not bound by it. When the government holds itself above the supreme law of the land, in this case the U.S. Constitution, it must be held to account. When the U.S. Supreme Court refuses to take action, then it is the right of the people to act.

      Ruthere,

Why do you think you need a Constitutional procedure for a state to secede? If I am a party to a contract, I can walk away from the contract if there is fraud or mistake. You need to read your history. The only reason the states agreed to the constitution was the understood ability to walk away from it at any time. Actually, the states can do better than secede (since secession will cause all sorts of silliness like the 1861 Northern Army invasion of the South, it wasn’t a civil war – see dictionary definition, it was a police action by a dictator) all they need to do is simply refuse to participate! Now, what would the Muslim-in-Chief do about that? Rather Ghandiesque approach which would spin them into oblivion and give the states a renewed strength of perspective and self sufficiency (like in the good old days of say “1776″)

TheLoyalNine, it’sa passive-aggressive approach that may backfire big time. Feds could legally enter the territory and do as they please, without fear of repercussions. Secession, done via referendum is much better approach because it is out in open, and has precedents in Int’l law (since the libs are so heavy onto that). The chances of a military action at this point are nil, there is no major issue like slavery (in fact, rather a prevention of a form of it–a collectivist serfdom), US military would simply not go for that. However, the window is narrow, some 2 years, before Obamunist can form his paramilitary Obamabot Sturmabteilung.

TX, OK, LA, MS, AL, GA, SC, AR, TN, KY, WV, KS, NE, SD, ND, MT, ID, WY, UT, AZ, AK are likely candidates to join. When the remainder runs out of other people’s money after 40 years, they can rejoin, provided that the leftists would become nearly extinct.

Santy Claus’s wining crybabies – that’s all we’ll hear for four years. I’ll just bet the Atty. Gen. will be ordered to sue any company firing employees or even closing in connection with universal health care. Those of us here in Oklahoma are also expecting the Atty. Gen. to be ordered to sue us for one of the ballot issues we passed, and for our new gun law that took effect last week. This Administration’s Top Ten Legacy list will include suing Americans for exercising their constitutional rights.
