Female Vigilantes Reportedly Break Egyptian Woman’s Arm, Cut Her Hair for Not Wearing Veil

After the revolution that ousted former Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak, the country’s youth were supposedly going to usher in a new era of freedom and democracy.  The media labeled the wave of destabilized governments in the Middle East the “Arab Spring,” certain that they were on the right track.

Maybe they are.  But if the last year has been any indication, democracy looks very different for Egyptians than it does for most Americans.  Islamists overwhelmingly control the government, and with the election of longtime Muslim Brotherhood member Mohammed Morsi, the country’s Christians and more secular-minded individuals seem to be targeted more and more often.

Most recently, the Egypt Independent reports that a group of female vigilantes attacked a woman for not wearing a veil, restraining her to cut her hair before pushing her off a train.

The Egypt Independent has more:

Two niqab-wearing women assaulted and forcefully cut the hair of a Christian woman on the metro Sunday, the third such reported incident in two months, raising fears of a growing vigilante movement to punish Egyptian women for not wearing the veil in public.

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights said in a statement that the assaulters called the Christian woman, who is 28 years old, an “infidel” and pushed her off the train, breaking her arm.

Last week, a woman wearing the niqab cut the hair of a 13-year-old Christian girl, Maggie Milad Fayez, in the metro. That same week, an Egyptian court gave a female teacher in Luxor with a six-month suspended prison sentence for cutting the hair of two 12-year-old girls after they refused to cover their heads.  [Emphasis added]

Many are asking the government to take a firmer stance against such attacks before they become “the norm,” but have been disappointed by the government’s response.

If anything, the Egyptian government is rapidly approaching Shariah Law.  Less than two weeks ago the Muslim Brotherhood made that clear, explicitly stating that while they don’t intend to transform Egypt into a theocracy, Islamic law must be the basis of the new constitution.

    I’m so tired of these fundamentalist Islamics. They are barbarians. No other religion in today’s modern society renders punishment for not believing in their religious doctrine.

    ALL those assaulting others for not believing in their religion need to be arrested and then see some jail time.

    Although there are many Muslims, there is still more Christians in the World.

      I understand where you are coming from. Maybe this video can help soften your heart a bit. Sometimes the truth is frustrating and we hate it, but it’s still the truth. :( There is no honor in “Honor Killing”. Somewhere, God is weeping for his daughters. We must weep for them too.

    If no one will fight this when they have the ability to do so, if the media and the governments keep pretending everything is ok, I do NOT have any optimism for the future. Please wake up, world, and see that this is not random isolated events, that these people are not your friends. I don’t want to be forced to wear certain clothes and have to act a certain way – or risk beatings and death. If no one will fight for themselves or for their beliefs, there will be no where to go, no way to live. This is not what I want for myself or ANYONE.

      If any of you think you can stop Sharia Law from coming to America your dead wrong. You would have had a better chance of stopping the Crucifixion of Jesus than you have of stopping Sharia from coming to America.

      Jesus death was prophesied by Jesus himself days before and America death was conferment on Nov 6th 2012. The Women of America came out strong for Obama and they will hate what is coming for them. I myself would like to be around to watch, but I will be among those going in the first wave as I will never trade my promise of eternity to follow the teaching of Satan and Sharia.

      Good luck ladies. I would like to suggest that you stay strong in prayer, but I’m not confident that God is going to hear them this time. You have nobody to blame but your self.       freedom must be earned. our president and his policies are a reflection of what WE THE PEOPLE deserve at this point in time. based on the mainstream culture, divorce rate, lack of values, and the filth that we have promoted, we deserve to be slaves. we deserve to be living in slums. we deserve to have all of our freedoms taken away. this will remain true until the majority of the people start paying their fair share again and the welfare state is put to an end

    Ah, that wonderful ” democratic” Arab Spring. Gee, they let the females out of the house ! Any female , not wearing a burka, planning to spend their tourist dollars in Egypt this year ?? Didn’t think so . Interesting that it isn’t only the males who are violently intolerant . Hey, maybe this is their version of ” democracy :” ladies get to leave the house…without a male escort ??

      Hold your horses there OLDGUY… This ‘ol guy was told by our government, late night comics, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, PBS. Also by Mike Malloy, Ed Schultz, Randi Rhodes, Ron Reagan, Rachel Maddow, Colbert Report, Jon Stewart and Bill Moyers. They all have said that there is no such thing as a caliphate.
      Just because a caliphate conference was held in the Chicago suburb of Rolling Meadows this past June and shaykh’s from Egypt, Iran, Yemen and neighboring countries call for a Caliphate.
      These facts just can’t make your comments true. Can they?
