Is The Tea Party Too Full of ‘Rage’? Peggy Noonan Thinks So
Throughout the 2012 election cycle, Peggy Noonan’s responses to the Republican party’s campaign were frequently critical, only getting optimistic near the end when former GOP nominee Mitt Romney began to tack to the center and employ big ideas to win over crowds. However, Noonan’s faulty prediction of the election notwithstanding, she arguably also had a pretty clear idea of what was going right (and wrong) with the Republican party, and expressed it in a relatively mild way.
And today, on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Noonan had a similarly circumspect take on what was and was not wrong with the GOP, and more specifically, the Tea Party. Describing the group as “helpful” and applauding its decision not to become a third party in 2010, Noonan nevertheless fielded some criticisms of the group not so much for its philosophy or policy, but for its tone.
“I think the Tea Party is going to have to look at itself,” Noonan said. “It’s been so helpful to the Republican Party in the past. It saved it by not going third party in 2010, helping the Republicans sweep the House. But the Tea Party style of rage is not one that wins over converts and makes people lean towards them and say, ‘I want to listen to you.’ I think a friendly persuasion has to begin now from the Republican Party to people of the United States.”

Posted on November 11, 2012 at 11:37pmNoonan love publicity. ONE LAST TIME: TEA (TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY) Party is a gathering of people from everywhere, every age who just got off their sofas and said “THAT’S IT” and came out and gathered. Then we found there were about 75% of Americans who Love our Country, Respect the Constitution, Love our Military, VOTE, LOVE GOD and want to see AMERICA – the one we were raised in – come back and replace this lewd, cheap, tawdry, God-less, “GIMME” society that seems to have sprung up. Politicians encourage dependency so they can -stay-in-power-getting-$-for dependents-who-vote-to-keep-them-in-power. Some of these “TEA PARTY leaders are not leaders. Most I’ve met are wanna-be Senators/Presidents/Politicians and instead of just demanding that spending gets cut, they try to play GOD in elections, hold meetings (they are always the head of) etc. BS. IF you are TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY then TEA is your moniker. DEMS, LIBS, LIBERTARIANS and GOP all qualify. There are two groups I’m going to work with: FREEDOM WORKS and TRUE THE VOTE. 1st: we have to fix our electoral system. 2nd: We have to re-teach History…our History. 3. We have to be locally active for our Schools, towns.
That’s it. IF all of us here blogging would do these 3 things, if Americans would do these 3 things we’ll find ourselves in a much better place in 2014. PS DON’T nominate dopes (Akin).

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 1:04amI think Allen West has always been called a Tea Party figure, and he is full of rage (nearly insanely so in my book). Bachmann, Palin, even Glenn Beck have their moments too. All of these people are snapping back because they (rightly) feel that they’re being attacked. Average Americans though do not feel as though they’re being attacked, and so they absolutely can’t relate to many Tea Party figures.
Obviously they would feel attacked if they were getting more educated on history and the political and economical context of our times; however I don’t think that it invalidates Ms. Noonan’s point. I have talked to many middle-of-the-road voters who don’t like Obama much but who feel that the Republican party is so abrasive that it scares them and they prefer to vote for the guy who looks friendlier.
I think she has a point and there is a message problem. It always feels easier to trust someone who wants to build than someone who wants to destroy. In a merely emotional sense, in the first debate it felt like Romney wanted to build, and in the two others it felt like he was just mad at the president. I know, it’s ridiculous to take these on a merely emotional level, but it so happens that many voters are women, and that’s what they do (no offense, women). So the tone has to be friendly.
That’s my opinion anyway. I think Ms. Noonan has a point.

You seem to confuse what we (used to, at least) call in the military a “command presence” with “rage”. Allen West consistently articulates a clear and erudite position on a wide array of subjects. Not rage, but he does not suffer fools very well — that is for sure.

Sorry, lady, you’re confusing rage with passion.
ALL the rage comes from the Left-
the Tea Party exhibits nothing but pure passion,
patriotic & love of country…it’s ingrained in their very being.
Nobody has waffled more from one thing to another than Noonan.
It all depends which way the political wind is blowin’-
she jumps on board & sails right along with it,
until it changes
& then, she argues against her original logic
and jumps aboard the opposing vessel, racing with the current.
She’s one of these marms, who never wants to be wrong,
so she’s an equal opportunity defender
when it comes to touting her ever-changing-like-the-wind opinions.
Just the fact that she calls the Tea Party out for their “rage”
proves Noonan is a nitwit noggin’-head.
Would she also, call the Founders out for their similar, historical “rage” ?
No, Peggy-Poo….it was undying, unapologetic passion
then, for America’s birth & NOW, for America’s substance, spirit & free.
Noonan is the woman, at the grocery store
who holds up everyone else in line-
her bill is $19.99
and instead of handing the cashier a 20-dollar bill,
she sorts thru a $10-dollar bill, a $5-dollar bill, 4 singles
and then digs in the bottom of her purse for the final .99 cents.
Then, with lips pursed, she confidently says to the cashier,
“I’m sure you could use the change for your cash drawer.”
NOT……now, purloin Peggy….that is RAGE !

Personally, i think the problem with the Tea Party is that it built tremendous momentum very quickly without any real definition or infrastructure and inadvertently “green lighted” conservatives that had a pet-issue of some sort to climb aboard and use that momentum to further their own agenda….
It stopped being about Liberty and started simply being anti-democrat… Odd, considering many Democrats supported the initial movement.

Posted on November 11, 2012 at 10:21pmThis is where Peggy is wrong. The Tea Party was established not to sit and listen but to stand up and be HEARD! There is anger and rightfully so. We need a revolution right now. Not a sitting back and waiting for more of the same. Our Founding Fathers were angry too and that didn’t work out so bad!!! We’re angry for the RIGHT reasons.

They are the ones who sold our Independence and Constitution piece by piece. They want an easy life. They want to be comfortable. Everyone wants those things but what do we NEED? FREEDOM from Tyranny and our God given rights. I was wondering when they would get around to blaming the tea party…IS SHE BLIND AS TO HOW MUCH TROUBLE OUR COUNTRY IS IN? HOW MUCH DANGER AND CORRUPTION? I tell her Wake Up DUMMIE we’re not even angry enough!

A form of government so small, that it can monitor the pregnancy of every pregnant woman.

Posted on November 11, 2012 at 10:16pmWe have certainly arrived at the time when right is called wrong and wrong is called right? When the Obamazombies said that if Obama, the supreme leader, did not get reelected, they were going to burn down the cities of the United States. And the Occupiers, who the Demoncrats said were a great movement, were calling for anarchy. Yeah right! The Tea Partiers are the only sane ones around right now.

They would have destroyed any candidate that we put up there – yes, even Ron Paul. The people behind Obama will lie, steal, murder if that is what it takes to keep him in office. The real president running this country is Valerie Jarrett with the help of Axelrod. Obama is just president in name only. Jarrett was born in Iran. Watch out what is coming!

Posted on November 11, 2012 at 10:10pmThe Tea Party’s mistake was accepting Republican claims that the only viable option to Obama was Romney. Now the Tea party is tainted with the Republican brand, instead of distinguishing itself from the “business as usual among the good old boys” mentality of the Repubs.
Better to proclaim your message, stand by your ideals, and lose, than to sell out again. People will remember, and eventually recognize if you were were correct. Churchill spent a decade in political exile before rising to his greatest achievements. The Tea Party must do the same, if needed, so long as it retains its political integrity.

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 4:20amIn case you have forgotten, Romney didn’t get to be the Republican nominee purely as a result of a propaganda campaign by the party’s leadership. They held a series of elections and caucuses which at least at first included a number of candidates more conservative than him. Unfortunately, one after another they all succeeded in revealing themselves to be fools or lunatics and frightening off the voters. So the question remains, where are you going to find somebody who thinks like you but is smart?

Let me take a shot at it ——–
RAGE is what happens when a free people have their Liberty raped from them by communist
liars, theives and spoilers. Establishment types like Peggy Noonan have the continence of wet toilet paper.
Dont tell me the answer is “compromise” — who in their right mind wants to deal with the devil?
Neither is the answer to “become more moderate”.
Our founding fathers made firm demands. And when their demands were ignored they did what was necessary to secure their liberty. They passed it to us and we have squandered it as fools.
There is a right thing to do. The question is who has the courage to do it.

I’d rather have freedom raging in my soul than have it be dead. Did our foundong fathers compromise with the king when he refused to ackmowledge their greivances? Or did our fathers say “Oh well, the king has made up his mind and there’s nothing we can do about it”.
If passion for freedom and love of country is considered rage today, then rage I shall have

Posted on November 11, 2012 at 10:23pmA lot of so called Tea Party people endorsed candidates that routinely crap on the Constitution. I know the Tea Party of today isn’t the Tea Party that started in 2007. As a matter of fact the current Tea Partiers scoff at the guy who started it, and say he had nothing to do with it. To be honest today’s Tea Party just seems to be your every day Republican to me for the most part.

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 12:54amLove of freedom scares some people who don’t know the difference between Social and Socialist. When you are clueless… Heck, it just looks like someone is just angry over something. People on government programs they didn’t contribute to, who make it a way of life, traded their liberty away. It’s gone already so they don’t understand us either. Dr. Ron Paul has such a nice way of explaining liberty to the left and the right, that I would like him to play a bigger role in the future. His prescription is right on!
