30 States Petition Federal Government to Secede After Election

Liberals often like to compare President Barack Obama to former President Abraham Lincoln. The comparison is usually dismissed as laughably hagiographical, but judging by one unexpected bit of fallout from Tuesday’s election, it could well end up being accurate in just one respect: Like Lincoln, Obama is facing requests by the citizens of numerous states to secede from the union.
However, unlike with Lincoln, these requests are peaceful, and highly unlikely to do anything at all except generate news headlines. A massive number of petitions are currently circulating on Change.org, a website designed to call for action by the federal government or by private institutions on particular causes, calling for particular states to be granted permission to secede.
Nor are they confined to the usual suspects (IE the Southern States). In actuality, the mix of states asking to secede is deeply bipartisan, ranging from the deeply red (Alabama and South Carolina) to the deeply blue (New York) to the swing (Pennsylvania). Nor are the states asking to secede in any way geographically clustered. Northern states (New York), Midwestern states (Michigan), Southern states (Alabama) and Western states (Nevada) have all filed petitions of their own. Most swing states this election cycle, with the exception of Ohio, have a petition of their own, and all of them have at least 1,000 signatures, with even some of the bluest states in the union easily keeping pace with their red counterparts.
Is this simply the product of a few thousand discontents in each individual state? Perhaps. But Texas’ petition has over 40,000 signatures, well over the 25,000 necessary to reach the attention of the President. If this turns out to be more than the discontented murmurings of a single state, this story may get ugly.

Make those dividing lines the Appalachians and the SIerra Madre, with the new Republic of Gadsden taking a piece of the state of Sonora to allow for a west coast port. the Constitutional Convention should be very interesting. Also don’t center the capitol in one city, but divide it in three, to prevent the creation of a federal cesspool like we have now. Technology easily makes it possible.

That was sort of my thought too. If all the states want to succeed, isn’t easier to just get rid of the “bad guys & girls” who don’t want to play by the principles of our founders? It wasn’t easy for them either. They were split down the middle too (strong fed govt vs maximum liberty).
It appears the numbers of people calling for this action are incredibly small. Is this the minority who rights are protected under the Constitution? I wonder.
Here we are with the “let’s divide” thing again. Nothing like division to keep a country together. I’d rather divide along lines of stupidity. Well, that’s not good either ’cause I might be on the side I don’t want. lol

They can post ADS I suppose Have 3 or 4 months for the PRIMARIES both parties, Prevent UNIONS and other special interest groups from buying favors… Badda Boom, Badda Bing!!! AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL ONCE AGAIN!!! Instead of once every 4 year conventions, we can hold huge town hall meeting for days at a time to get issues solved with the max. amount of people participating. States on the east, west and Gulf coasts would have access to the ocean and overseas markets.
But what about land-locked States once they become ‘independent countries’?
Do they erect walls to keep others from using their portions of FEDERAL INTERSTATES?
Do they have to pay ‘a foreign country’ to travel their roads and use their ports?
When a hurricane or other natural disaster strikes – HOW would they get supplies and how would the residents survive in – lets say a drought or massive wildfire in a ‘water-shortage’ state??
Where would these land-locked states get their power (in states which have no coal or refuse to use renewables) or gasoline (in non-productive states) or water (in desert areas)?
GREAT IDEA to secede – Right??? Riiiiiiiight!!!!!

The bottom line is the Civil War was about taxation without representation FACT They do teach in school…Lincoln signed a mandate that stated all states that practiced Slavery COULD CONTINUE the practice but no new states could have the practice of slavery.
If the War was fought over slavery then the south won before a shot was fired. Fact is the Government was taxes the south and using those dollars to build in the North.

SC has BMW, Military Weapons manufacturers, metals manufacturing, Boeing, Force Protection, Cotton, Wine, Whiskey, Mineral resources (to include gold mining), Army, Navy, Marines, Navy Seals, Coast Guard, Air force base, Missile base, Missile manufacturer, 4 medical Schools, religious conservative universities, Mountains and forests on the right side of the warm currents that provide drought free crops. We have the benefits of all the other states and many things no other states have.

The reason I say that is you have to couple this article with one that said even third world dictators didn’t get 99-100% of the vote like Obama did in some districts in Pennsylvania and Ohio. I’d be worried that everyone who signed this petition would be rounded up and executed, publically. That being said, I can’t wait to see the look on my aunt’s face (who is a STONG Obama supporter) if Arkansas did secede. We’d have to have a massive exchange of people, letting those liberals move INTO Obamanation, and the conservatives out.

I thought about that before signing the Texas petition and decided I would rather die standing for what I believe in than live on my knees. Beck, since you’re living in TX now, you need to grow a pair. In some senses, America is a bunch of cowards and if people had been as gutless in 1776, we’d be speaking with funny accents right now and spelling “color” with one too many letters.

We have been wanting to get out of here for some time now. If there was ever a better time to get the heck out of California, NOW would be the time! It would be a wonderful thing if conservatives would/could pack up and leave this state to all the brain-dead liberals. Let them live in the cesspool they have created. California is beautiful! This is probably a lot easier to do then to rely on our politicians to control costs. Therefore even California and Illinois will start with a clean slate. As long as the states act like Europe and use a common monetary unit, a common armed services and have no restriction to travel between the states, this could be the easiest way to solve our debt problem.

If you are in foreign country with out proper papers you pay through the nose and still get shipped out or do jail time until someone bails you out. If all the red states secede & unite, we’d have a nice big country but WE get to keep the name of the USA. Don’t know what we’ll do with Colorado & New Mexico stuck right in the middle of our RED states! We need to be careful what we wish for. On the other hand at this point we are losing freedoms day by day. A shake up in Washington is needed but we will have to work slowly.
I suggest we take back our schools. Stop the indoctrination of children. Teach them citizenship and the Constitution. That’s how the liberals got control. In some aspects conservatives are getting there. We now have 30 states with a Republican governor, almost as many with a conservative legislature. House Republicans need to go to them and work with them and reach out to Libertarians. Start our own ground operations . Push into the cities s much as possible. We can take our lives back from Washington DC. We must start now. Today.

Also, what really needs to happen is the repeal of the 17th Amendment. Even with popular vote, the House remained in Republican hands, but the much tougher Senate didn’t. States shouldn’t secede, they should assert their power. Reclaim their power to appoint senators through state legislatures. Make the Senate responsive to the needs of the States instead of to a party. The popular vote makes sense when it is so fine-grained like the House is on a district level, not when it represents only the interests of a major metropolitan center instead of all people in a state, as it is in the Senate today.

I agree with the idea that only property owners or tax payers should vote. In other words, if you don’t have a clue what America is about, don’t tell the rest of us how to do it!!! The two senators for each state were originally elected by each state’s legislature, not a general election, and therefore kept each states interest in mind. The 17th amendment changed that. Now both the congress and senate are elected by general election of the people, which is not how our government was supposed to be!

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 9:51pmI too live in Alaska and agree whole heartedly with succession. I live on a small little island in southeast AK tucked away from the rest of the world. Honestly the only thing that reminds the community that we are part of a country is when the government regulates our natural resources. During the Clinton admin we had a pulp mill that employed 8000 – 10000 people year round until he shut it down and everyone packed up their bags and moved off the rock. Then to top it all off he declared a state of emergency for the town giving the ship yard 25 million to pick up the unemployed and do some work for the military and the yard owner pocketed the money didn’t hire anyone and sent a report in saying it couldn’t be done due to our weather. That was that and now our main industry is tourism. We sell our natural beauty to the lower 48 every summer and they take a little with them every year leaving the shops boarded up during the winter and looking like a ghost town. That’s the benefit of being a part of the union???

That means that businesses who were holding money till after the election would be hiring INSTEAD of laying people off. They won’t hire because of Obama’s job-killing regulations and the cost of Obamacare. That ALSO means that we probably would not have all of these petitions to secede. Bush signed the first TAARP, The Patriot Act, Obama not only re-signed them but expanded them and added NDAA, Romney was only another rubber stamp for the Elitist’s. The only way the R’s could get re-elected if they vowed to completely ignore social issues and stop tying to legislate morality. But if they did that then they would also just vote for the Libertarian so it will never happen again. Growth is not up to the government, it’s up to the people and this President is taking us backwards! The Constitution is being slowly taken away as time goes! Let’s restore those rights! Not Obama specifically but, under his watch, the EPA RPP Lead Paint mandate has made it impossible for me to work on houses built before 1978 without investing thousands of dollars i don’t have or face enormous fines for violating the mandate… I’m a home- repair/ painting contractor and older houses were my specialty and the bread and butter of my business… the guidelines were made by a bunch of suits in a backroom somewhere that have no idea about the realities of actually performing labor….. covering entire houses and yards with 6 mil plastic, miles of blue masking tape, holding areas, shower facilities, EPA approved shopvacs (of which there are only 2), neighbors approval, warning-hazard signs… and i have to pack it up & send my guys home if it gets windy (but pay them anyway)… all to repair and paint some rotten siding… my customers can’t absorb these costs!… they just hire the unlicensed/ uninsured guys to do the work who don’t follow the guidelines in the mandate.. It more than triples the cost of every friggin job for me! I’ve already let go of half my staff and most of my competitors have, too. We are getting killed, here.
Look it up…. EPA RPP Mandate… Job Killer thanks to Green-on-the-brains morons.
BTW… homeowners are not subjected to penalties.. only licensed contractors have to comply or else!

That makes NO SENSE! Why didn’t folks from South Carolina and Oklahoma just sign the original petition instead of starting a second? They are defeating their own purposes.
Plus, it takes all those signatures just to get——”A RESPONSE.” And probably just from some WH flunkie. Or maybe even what? Just a big, flat, flowery NO from the O himself…

Neither candidate showed any interest in individual rights, just states rights and thereby lost a huge number of people who live different lifestyles. A whole bunch of the liberal agenda is not people of the ghetto pushing against the Federal Gov’t but them fending off the States and their conservative police state agenda. If the conservatives would back off at the State level on the issues that affect only individuals rights of choice then they can start to win back the huge number of gay, atheist (as much as I hate to admit them), drug using conservatives I know to exist, (marijuana: do the damn research people and legalize it, quit being SO DAMN STUPID AND HYPOCRITICAL.)

1- The south did not properly seceed. To seceed, it must be put through ALL of the senate. They did not do that.
2- The Articles of Confederation. Abraham Lincoln stated that the Constitution was a more perfect union than the earlier Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, but that the Articles had established the permanence of the Union in a binding contract. He called any secession “legally void”.
3- The definition of democracy itself. To be in a democracy, you must work together. The south refused to give an inch, thus they left. That was not democracy, it was just giving up on a system because you refuse to compromise.

My parents have to file bankruptcy because of Obummer’s policies on coal, and the saddest thing: we’re not the only ones. Our whole town is based on coal, and Obummer took it away from us. :(

I wish Romney would fight back at some of this obvious voter fraud…this Administration has a stink about it and I am praying that all the corruption will be exposed. We, the people, need to find ways to tell this foul smelling Administration that we won’t just grin and bear it.
