Actor Antonio Sabato Jr. Tells TheBlaze Why He’s ‘A True Believer in Jesus’ (Plus: His Take on Christianity in Hollywood)
It’s evident that vocal Christians are a rare breed in Hollywood. Considering entertainers’ tough schedules, intense temptations and the controversial actions required to keep and hold on to their fame, it’s no wonder that living a positive lifestyle can be a difficult task in the entertainment world. Lately, though, TheBlaze has been speaking with well-known actors, singers and comedians who shatter the stereotype — or at least the notion — that Tinseltown is godless. Most recently, we caught up with actor and model Antonio Sabato Jr., who explained the importance of faith in his own life.
The former soap star and model highlighted his Christian views and shared some surprising details about his fellow entertainers. The actor, who moved with his family to America in 1985, has made a name for himself in the entertainment world. No stranger to television, movies and modeling, Sabato’s father, Antonio Sabato Sr., was an actor in numerous Italian films in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. As for his own motivation for entering into the same field, the younger Sabato explains: “It was in my genes.”

Growing up in Rome, Italy, the now 40-year-old actor claims that it was hard, as a young person, to escape religion. After all, he recalls churches being present on practically every street corner. As a result of the exposure, Sabato said that he was “always a Christian,” noting that, from an early age, religious themes were a part of his daily life.
“I always believed in Jesus and God as a little boy,” he told TheBlaze.
While the actor claims that he didn’t go to church as a child, God was very much a part of his life. As he grew older, Sabato’s faith “came together” and became a more active staple in his daily routine.
“As I got older, I got closer to my faith and I got closer to Jesus, reading the Bible and living my life under God,” Sabato said.
Over the past few years, the model noted that this Christian views have only increased and that his wife, singer-songwriter Cheryl Moana Marie, has played a key role in helping to refine and bolster his personal beliefs.
“My wife was a big part of it,” Sabato said of Marie, whom he married earlier this year. “Together, me and my wife are believers and we live our lives for Jesus.”
During his interview with TheBlaze, Sabato didn’t simply speak in grand religious terms; he also highlighted what he believes it means to be a Christian. Rather than going to church, an action that he now engages in regularly as an adult, Sabato spoke about the importance of living out one’s faith. In the end, religion is only a construct, he said, noting that Christianity is about having an active relationship with God.

Antonio Sabato Jr. (Photo Credit: AntonioSabatoJROnline.com)
“I consider myself a Christian — a true believer in Jesus Christ — that he died for our sins. [That he is our] true savior,” he explained. “I don’t consider myself any denomination.”
The impact that the faith has had on Sabato’s life is profound, as he notes that his family, children included, is much healthier as a result of it and that family members’ relationships with one another are better with God in the mix. As a father, he claims faith has refined him, as the actor finds himself asking, in various scenarios, ”Would Jesus do it like this?” and “What are the consequences?”
When it comes to Hollywood — a place, as stated, that many assume to be godless, Sabato had a cautionary note for Christians: Don’t assume that Tinseltown is entirely devoid of God.
“You’d be surprised — I think there’s a lot of people who are Christians,” he said of some of his compatriots within the entertainment industry; he then went on to give his theory as to why more people aren’t open about their faith. “It’s because Hollywood is what it is and they kind of have to put everything behind a glass door.”
Sabato noted that he knows many others in the industry who go to church regularly and who share his beliefs. In addition to commenting about other believers in Hollywood, the actor shared his experience surrounding how God has positively impacted his career.
Being a Christian in Hollywood can be tough and Sabato always has to strike a balance, particularly when it comes to controversial roles. For the actor, choosing a role is all about examining a script in its entirety. If he finds it challenging and compelling, he then moves forward with the project. While he claims he’s not too picky, he does look at the degree to which a particular role is “dark” or unpalatable.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 12:18amSo, this is off topic a bit but i have always wanted to ask you guys this.. why are you so against gay marriage? I know about the bible.. homosexuality is mentioned twice. in Leviticus and in the sodom and Gomorrah parable. But they’re both old testament. It also says in the old testament not to eat pork, or cheese, or shellfish, it says to kill all non believers, kill your children if they cuss at you, Kill adulterers etc etc. but you guys completely ignore all that. It looks like you pick random quotes from the bible to fit the political narrative while Ignoring the rest. More to the point Jesus never mentioned Homosexuality in the bible. Not once! he did say that “it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” Yet I have yet to see one “pray the wealth away” camp. or anyone protesting Chic-fil-a for putting bacon on their sandwiches… secondly. our first amendment “prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, or impeding the free exercise of religion” so essentially no law should be made regarding any religion.. as our for fathers intended. and all a ban on gay marriage is is a religious mandate… so I just don’t get it.. Is religion a mask for bigotry? I am just lost..

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 1:22amyou have so many different things listed in the o.t.-1 God NEVER changes-He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow-2 He is Holy-He cannot live or let sin into Heaven(that is why Christ died for you and me)3 He makes the rules-period-if no one likes it move to another universe-Jesus when talking about divorce in the N.T.in mark 10-He said ‘but from the beginning of the creation,God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be JOINED(emphasis mine) to his wife;…’ He did not have to explain about the sin of homosexuality-they all knew it was a sin they would never have thought about trying to make a sin legal!!!there is a right and a wrong-you get to choose for yourself–as for the other things you listed-not eating shellfish or pork was to make sure they did not get sick-there was no refrigeration at that time and they did not know about germs-killing adulterers becoz they were to be a new kind of nation-one that was pure-one that followed God and not the way of the egyptians(or other pagan nations like the cannanites–adultery,no respect for parents were what the egyptians did-God had to teach them like a parent-He told them there would be consequences for their actions and like yeast(code word for sin in the Bible)the sin would spread if not taken seriously(look around today to see the impact of sin) and the non believers were pagans who had child sacrifice(sound familiar?) and sexual diseases from casual sin and homosexualit

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 1:32amYour information about the Bible is inaccurate. Check out What Paul says in Romans Chapter 1 in the New Testament. Jesus also spoke about sexual immorality, which includes any sex outside of the marriage bond. A lot of Christians are making a big deal about the gay marriage issue because they want to stand for “God’s Definition of Marriage”, unfortunately they are not nearly so passionate about that definition when it comes to things like “no fault divorce”. The Bible says that if you are married, and you get divorced for a reason other than sexual immorality, and you remarry, you are committing adultery. That is “God’s Definition of Marriage” as well. Men changing definitions does not change God’s definition, even if we pass laws and amendments. Ultimately,I fear that in their stance to uphold “God’s definition” that lost people don’t share, the Christians of this nation are pushing away and making enemies of the very ones their Savior came to save.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 6:12amThousands of years of civilazation has been based on the family, without good strong families, societies collapse. Just look at what is happening now in this country. The basis of marriage is one man and one woman for the purpose of producing and raising children. For thousands of yars this has been the definition of marriage, why should the vast majority of people and thousands of years of tradition be changed o mollify less than two percent of the population, which by the way all gays are not in favor of gay marriage. Posted on November 13, 2012 at 9:00amKeaton. It’s more than just twice and it’s more than just the OT. It’s CRYSTAL clear how God feels about homosexuality.
1 Corinthians 6:9-10
“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards . . . will inherit the kingdom of God.”
1 Timothy 1:8-10
“But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully . . . for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners . . . and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching”
Romans 1:26-27
“For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.”
Look at every great empire that has been toppled, destroyed or dismantled. From Noah’s time in Genesis, to Sodom and Gomorrah, the Israelites (a few times), the Spartans, the Trojans, the Romans, and many others. Once they’ve wholly embraced homosexuality and society has turned into an ‘anything goes’, God has said “Enough!” and destroyed them. Clearly we have become that society.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 10:46amKeatonc333, thanks for asking. Our views are all too often distorted by those who disagree with us, and they rarely give us an honest chance to correct things. Your idea that the Bible only speaks of homosexuality twice in the OT is a common misconception. LuvsYeshua did a good job of listing some NT passages, so I won’t bother repeating them.
But another error that I would like to correct is that we don’t really place the emphasis on homosexuality being a sin that the media would portray. To us (and to the Bible) it is not an unpardonable sin we need to oppose at all cost, it is just one sin among many. It’s not a sin that I’m tempted with, but there are TONS of other sins that I do struggle with daily. I struggle with selfishness, I struggle with lusting for women who aren’t my wife, I struggle with laziness, the list just goes on and on, and they are all equally bad in God’s sight. You’re probably better than I am when it comes to some sins, I’m probably better with other sins, but none of it amounts to a hill of beans. We all sin in different ways, but the important thing is that we all sin and fall short of God’s glory.
And that’s why we have a Savior who took the penalty for our sin upon Himself, because the penalty is too much for us to pay. Jesus did everything necessary for a full pardon and restoration to God. All we have to do is trust Him to do it.
If we’re known for being anti-something more than for being pro-Jesus, our message is getting los

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 1:36pmI gather from your question that you feel bad for gays and think they ought to have the same “rights” as heteros. Well, I don’t think you will find very many Christians who would disagree. Most that I’ve spoken with are in agreement that they would like to see gay unions with the same legal rights. The problem I have, and most Christians have, is the CHANGE of the meaning of the word marriage. A marriage has a profound and honestly held meaning which has been the same for thousands of years, for millions of believers (and even some non-believers). What rankles, and the reason for the argument, is the 3-5% of the population wishing to erase the history and tradition and religious meaning of marriage for the remainder of the population, simply because it makes them “feel better” to be called the same thing. What about everyone else? Why do Christians have to give up their traditions and beliefs? Who is protecting THEIR “feelings”? Who is protecting THEIR religion? There is a solution, which would give gays the same rights as everyone else. Civil unions. The relationship isn’t the same, why should the name be the same?
I have never understood why the argument is ONLY heard from one side. So, here’s the question I’ve always wanted to ask YOU GUYS. What is it that “your side” is actually asking for? You can get equal rights – visiting rights, survivorship and wills, crappy tax rates – all of it – with civil unions. Why insist on TAKING AWAY marriage from Christ

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 2:06pmThanks for everyone who responded politely! I will readily admit I am not too read up on the Bible but i do believe I have a pretty solid grasp on it. I do believe also that Gays should have the same rights as everyone else. as some of you pointed out. It is hard for someone like myself.. who is agnostic at best, to fully understand every christians view on issues. especially when my information comes from media. where i see Billy Graham Blaming sandy on gays, or 9/11 or really any natural disaster to hit the east coast. I myself, though not a christian, believe I have in stored myself very similar ethics. I just feel that the attacking of the Gay community does nothing but hurt christianity. You have every right to disagree, dont get me wrong. but personal opinion and law shouldn’t mix. secondly I do feel that christians missed a big opportunity to truly be christlike in the *0s with the AIDS epidemic. I mean you had fellow humans scared to death. dying off due to a disease that we barely understood. AIDS patients in the 80s were our generations Lepers, and the public view is that christians turned their backs on them. and then blamed their disease on their immorality, and then continue to blame every natural disaster on them. Its just sad. Think of how differently Christianity could be viewed. Don’t get me wrong though! though I disagree fundamentally. I fully respect your right to define Marriage however youd like. I just don’t think that warrants law.

Christ is the only way (John 14:6), and the 66 books of the Bible is the complete word of God. No additional books are needed or allowed. I hope “religious” people start to realize that soon. Church, traditions and religion cannot save us. Jesus Christ does.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 6:44amThe reason for boycotting the works of liberal actors is that many of these actors or actresses (we’ll use Sean Penn as an example) is that many of his films push his political agendas, which in many cases explores lifestyles or opinions others do not agree with, and I am approaching this from a political angle as I am not a religious person. Over the past ten years Penn made a movie about a man who became obsessed with Richard Nixon and set out to assassinate him (in interviews he admitted he channeled his hatred for George W Bush into creating this character), and then doing a biopic of the openly gay Harvey Milk. I watched both of these movies and cared for neither of them. On the other hand, I did like Mystic River, an apolitical movie that also starred Sean Penn.
Another issue is the hypocrisy of many of these actors, in the way they slammed Bush relentlessly for Iraq, Afghanistan, the Patriot Act, and so on, but why aren’t they publicly slamming Obama for not getting rid of the Patriot Act, and with the actions and policies of Janet Napolitano, we are handing over much more of our personal freedoms every day (much less freedom than during the Bush era), and the fact that the US is still in Iraq (we’re now using “contractors” instead of soldiers) and Afghanistan. But the next time a Republican is in the White House, we’ll hear from these Hollywood actors who the Republican President is eroding our freedoms and having us in wars all over the world.

I for one am not 100% either way, I have never seen any of this man’s work, I read what he said and thought, cool…I use the bible and it’s teachings for my guide post, I believe it to be the repair manual for mans soul. That being said, I find it a shame what is going on in this country, example, Obama phone girl, that girl is being ruined, I detest the people who’re out for their own power and are using this girl, She was born because God loves her, he also gave her talents, and abilities, all of it to be Wasted, her life will be denied the joy of work, and the best part Giving, the bible also speaks to this (sloth and blessings being able to give and receive them).
You mention Cameron, we can all learn how to be a better MAN, from him, now we have many fully grown boys, the bible speaks to how we are to take care of widows and orphans,~~James1:27~~ ” Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world”…….Why are we as a country making so many widows and orphans?…..BTW our house of worship started a program to adopt the children in the foster care system in our area, the goal is to empty it, give all those kids homes..
….I have read many of your posts Mod, I think we both want the same peace in society, I just don’t think your way will work. God Bless

The recent election proved that the large city dwelling majority will from this point forward, ALWAYS win and ALWAYS impose their big government control, gay agenda, and anti-religion measures on the vast territories of the remainder of the US. The point is since you know that no amount of economic failure, job loss, or Constitutional right infringement will divert this city dwelling majority crowd from following the cult-like democrat liberal progressive vote then what option is left. These huge liberal democrat welfare baby factory cities will only increase in size and their education level will only decrease and the media will only continue to the left. Yep, I am judging – righteously – look it up. You cannot claim to be a Christian and support such things.
The spirit of God in us is our conscience – too many ignore that and rationalize it – the leftists anger comes from the continuous figthing of the Spirit (conscience) –
They know in their heart of hearts they are wrong and that they do not need to convince the rest of us – they need to convince God – He is not fooled. As of Wed Nov 7 – I am not fooled either and I will no longer mince words. The Truth is the Truth and it is painful – deal with it.
Call me any name – I DO NOT CARE – I will not shut up to make you feel better – it doesn’t matter – you cannot be disobedient to God and feel good – deal with that too

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 says God loved everyone in the world so much that He gave Jesus Christ so absolutely anyone, which would include republicans, who believes in him can have eternal life. Romans 10:9,10 tells us how to believe in Jesus Christ. Anyone who does this, including republicans, will be saved and go to heaven.
Romans 10:9-10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
