Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) could become the nation’s next defense secretary as the Obama administration moves forward with a massive personnel shake-up regarding the president’s national security team. That includes David Petraeus’ permanent replacement as CIA director.

The Washington Post reports that while Kerry is believed to “covet the job of secretary of state,” U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan E. Rice is thought to be a shoe-in for the slot, according to senior Obama administration officials.

Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter and Michele Flournoy, former undersecretary for policy at the Pentagon, have also been mentioned as possible replacements for Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta. When Panetta was asked by reporters if he would remain in office throughout Obama’s second term he replied, “Who the hell knows.”

As for Petraeus’ successor, Obama’s counterterrorism adviser John O. Brennan is reportedly the top choice should he want the CIA job. However, if Brennan turns down the offer, Michael J. Morell, who is currently serving as the agency’s interim director, will likely stay at the helm.

“Officials cautioned that the White House discussions are still in the early phases and that no decisions have been made,” Washington Post reports.

  Yes, Kerry ran. a swift boat, when a boat in his squadron came under fire from the NVA Kerry turned the boat around and ran off, letting his buddies on the boat under fire to themselves, One might call that typical for future politicians and opportunistic clods.

  MUFFYTHETUFFY, Yeah, Kerry the hero served from December ’68 to March ’69. Bet that a lot of the real vets wished that was all the time they had to spend in Vietnam. He spent less that a total of three months on the Swift Boats, and was shipped back to the states. Says a lot about his ability to be a man and an officer.

  That would be perfect , a guy who testified in Senate hearings against his fellow Veterans , , claiming widespread war crimes . Maybe if he actually had any combat experience , he would have understood what it was actually like and there , and there were no US War Crimes . His anti Veteran and war stance upon his return to the states made him a perfect Progressive political candidate. Vietnam veterans blocked his Presidential race chances and I am sure there will plenty of stink over this appointment .

  No, Muffy, he was stationed in Vietnam. John Kerry has only served John Kerry his entire life. Do some research and find out what he REALLY did in Vietnam. Oh, and be sure to look at a photo of him throwing his medals back at an anti-war Rally. Many of us served our country in Vietnam. John Kerry served his own agenda. He is a pig. Went to VIET NAM to gather POINTS for his eventual RUN for PRESIDENT (someday); he faked his medals, he lied about his accomplishments; he commiserated with the bloody FRENCH (trying to pretend he didn’t) – that was an act of treason. His actions got men killed in Swift Boat (hence their anger and total lack of support for him)…came back and was the male JANE FONDA… appearing at rallies against OUR TROOPS.
  
  MADE THE STATEMENT in CONGRESS that OUR TROOPS were killing innocent people, raping women and burning villages. (all a matter of record)..but hey, why not. This is typical OBAMA style.

  This administration wants to cut DoD’s budget, is demonizing our top generals, and is considering John Kerry as Sec. of Defense? Factor in the economic havoc they have already wrought, and there can be no doubt whatsoever that Obama and his henchmen are deliberately and maliciously hell-bent on destroying this nation.
  
  I very much doubt that I am alone in hoping for something that, until now, would have been unthinkable — a military coup.

  The revelations about Kerry’s ineptness and lack of dedication to his country and his fellow service members, revealed when he ran for president ,makes him the perfect choice for Obama. The turn and run strategy will play itself out perfectly with him as Defense Secretary.
  
  Yes, he was stationed in Viet Nam for a while but his record there certainly doesn’t qualify him for the post mentioned. But then again, destruction of the image of the military is the prime objective of this administration so Kerry would fit right in.

I studied enough international politics and security to know, when Kerry was in that debate to be president once and he used that term”global test,” to run like the wind in the opposite direction. You know the man never picked up any serious book on international security, much less would he be qualified to guide such policy to keep the most influential country in the world safe. Save the idealists for less crucial posts.

Kerry!?!?!?!? What a joke… that piss-ant will end up selling our nukes to Iran to pay down our debt, sell a few aircraft carriers to China and a few of our nuclear subs to Colombia to help them better traffic in cocaine… all to pay down the debt…

The only defense he will be in charge of is selling off our assets to allow our enemies to have a better defense against us, that man is a traitor through and through….

One more bozo in…And we all know that rules dont apply to him, since hiding his yacht in another state to avoid taxes and of course lets not forget the off shore bank accounts.. while we are at it, why dont we make Elizabeth Warren, head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, since as we know she has a Native American Heritage. So Senator Swift Boat to run Defense and Rice, who after 4 years with no notable accomplishments as the Ambassador to the UN? Sounds like the next 4 years are going to be as stellar as I anticipated. Kerry gets the Defense post there is going to be a mass exodus of anyone with integrity in a senior position in the military. Kerry is a hypocritical dishonest disgrace and is the last person that should be given this post.

  If anyone ever thought that the left has or has ever had ANY love for our Military has been fooling themselves. The left has been “turning” our Military very slowly just like they “turned” our education system over the years.
  
  John Kerry as Defense Sec would be the capstone and crowning achievement of this slow turn and burn. Taking nothing away from the true warriors who are in our Military in all branches, the Military has been getting castrated and feminized for years just like our country has been by the left.
