John Kerry: US Defense Secretary?

Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) could become the nation’s next defense secretary as the Obama administration moves forward with a massive personnel shake-up regarding the president’s national security team. That includes David Petraeus’ permanent replacement as CIA director.
The Washington Post reports that while Kerry is believed to “covet the job of secretary of state,” U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan E. Rice is thought to be a shoe-in for the slot, according to senior Obama administration officials.
Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton B. Carter and Michele Flournoy, former undersecretary for policy at the Pentagon, have also been mentioned as possible replacements for Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta. When Panetta was asked by reporters if he would remain in office throughout Obama’s second term he replied, “Who the hell knows.”
As for Petraeus’ successor, Obama’s counterterrorism adviser John O. Brennan is reportedly the top choice should he want the CIA job. However, if Brennan turns down the offer, Michael J. Morell, who is currently serving as the agency’s interim director, will likely stay at the helm.
“Officials cautioned that the White House discussions are still in the early phases and that no decisions have been made,” Washington Post reports.
More from The Washington Post:
Petraeus’s resignation last week after revelations of an extramarital affair have complicated what was already an intricate puzzle to reassemble the administration’s national security and diplomatic pieces for Obama’s second term.
The process has become further complicated by congressional ire over not being told that Petraeus was under FBI investigation, on top of what are likely to be contentious closed-door hearings this week over administration actions surrounding the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya.
Rice, one of an inner circle of aides who have been with Obama since his first presidential campaign in 2007, is under particular fire over the Benghazi incident, in which the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans were killed.
Some Republican lawmakers have suggested that she was part of what they suspect was an initial, election-related attempt to portray the attack as a peaceful demonstration that turned violent, rather than what the administration now acknowledges was an organized terrorist assault.

Let us know what you think of Kerry as a pick for defense secretary in the comment section below. Would you feel safe with the former Democratic presidential candidate at the helm? What about Susan Rice taking over Hillary Clinton’s gig as secretary of state?

Bet that a lot of the real vets wished that was all the time they had to spend in Vietnam. He spent less that a total of three months on the Swift Boats, and was shipped back to the states. Says a lot about his ability to be a man and an officer.

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 11:49pmThat would be perfect , a guy who testified in Senate hearings against his fellow Veterans , , claiming widespread war crimes . Maybe if he actually had any combat experience , he would have understood what it was actually like and there , and there were no US War Crimes . His anti Veteran and war stance upon his return to the states made him a perfect Progressive political candidate. Vietnam veterans blocked his Presidential race chances and I am sure there will plenty of stink over this appointment .

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 1:03amWeak, spineless GIGOLO. Went to VIET NAM to gather POINTS for his eventual RUN for PRESIDENT (someday); he faked his medals, he lied about his accomplishments; he commiserated with the bloody FRENCH (trying to pretend he didn’t) – that was an act of treason. His actions got men killed in Swift Boat (hence their anger and total lack of support for him)…came back and was the male JANE FONDA… appearing at rallies against OUR TROOPS.
MADE THE STATEMENT in CONGRESS that OUR TROOPS were killing innocent people, raping women and burning villages. (all a matter of record)..but hey, why not. This is typical OBAMA style.
STICK THE KNIFE IN – TWIST IT – THUMB HIS NOSE at our Military…sure… appoint this tax-dodging, gutless wonder. This self-serving Massachusetts brat… why not? PAR FOR THE COURSE.
The nice thing about having lived a while is that I know ROMANS 8:28 is 1 TRILLION percent true:
ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD FOR THOSE WHO LOVE GOD.
OUR JOB ONE: LOVE GOD; KNOW HIM, UNDERSTAND THAT HE LOVES US – it’s not a saying..it is the basis of our trust and obedience and surrender to him. THEN TWO: WORK for a FAIR VOTE-COUNTING situation…regardless of whomever we nominate, if they can steal OHIO/FL/PA votes what difference does it make? NUMBER THREE: CUT the bloody GOP primaries to 5 (N, E, S, W, and MIDDLE) have them end in 3 months. THEN GO all out for a win. AND NO MORE AKINS!!!

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 1:15amPS the part that is “A MATTER OF RECORD” is Kerry’s speech before Congress when he accused
our men in VIET NAM of murdering civilians/ burning villages/raping the women. You can probably find his ‘speech’ on YouTube.
THE GOP must be told that they can’t have these little ego-runs, every Senator or House Guy or Gov. who thinks he’s the next big thing – coming out to run for PRESIDENT. The bloody primaries had better be over by MARCH of the election year, damnit. AND…. if they don’t vet these guys (and women) and make sure they are ready for PRIME TIME, we will just have more problems. IT was the damn comments of MOURDOCK and AKIN that lost us the women’s vote. ROMNEY was not going to try to overturn Roe v Wade. HE KNEW it was a state by state issue, but these dumb bells didn’t stay on message…Akin (comb-over king) dared to discuss the workings of a woman’s body…old coot, and then damnit 3 million PUBS didn’t even bother to get off their duffs and vote. HOW dare they not vote? THEY aren’t going to vote for someone who reaches across the aisle (some dope on RUSH today) …really ? You twit!!! THERE IS ALWAYS COMMON GROUND. DOES NOT MEAN COMPROMISE, but COMMON GROUND. we are a nation of over 300 M. people from all over the world and you, little twit, think YOU are justified to try to exclude others, not listening to them? The turn and run strategy will play itself out perfectly with him as Defense Secretary.
Yes, he was stationed in Viet Nam for a while but his record there certainly doesn’t qualify him for the post mentioned. But then again, destruction of the image of the military is the prime objective of this administration so Kerry would fit right in.

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 9:29pmSo Senator Swift Boat to run Defense and Rice, who after 4 years with no notable accomplishments as the Ambassador to the UN? Sounds like the next 4 years are going to be as stellar as I anticipated. Kerry gets the Defense post there is going to be a mass exodus of anyone with integrity in a senior position in the military. Kerry is a hypocritical dishonest disgrace and is the last person that should be given this post.

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 9:49pmHas the human race just de-volved ?? What is going on ? The enter world is a mess . Revolutions. Famines. Earthquakes. In America, the crazy radicals from the 60s, now older but not wiser, are now running the American government ? Forgive us, Lord. This is such a severe punishment….

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 6:42amIf anyone ever thought that the left has or has ever had ANY love for our Military has been fooling themselves. The left has been “turning” our Military very slowly just like they “turned” our education system over the years.
John Kerry as Defense Sec would be the capstone and crowning achievement of this slow turn and burn. Taking nothing away from the true warriors who are in our Military in all branches, the Military has been getting castrated and feminized for years just like our country has been by the left.
