Viral Video of the Day: Military Dad Dresses Up as Darth Vader and Crashes Son’s ‘Star Wars’-Themed Birthday Party
If Darth Vader showed up at your 5-year-old self’s birthday party, what would you do? Pull out your trusty light saber, of course.
This is exactly what Aiden Whyte did, but he soon found out it wasn’t an enemy inside the black cape and behind the hooded mask.
The Military Times reports Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class (SW) Justin Whyte had been away from his family for months, but when it became apparent he could come home for a few days for his son’s birthday party, his wife set to scheming. Susie Whyte told the Times she enjoys putting together surprises.

After giving Vader a good run with his light saber, mom says Aiden should take off the villain’s mask. At this point, the Aiden and his sister, dressed as Princess Leia, tackle Justin with hugs.

Watch the heartfelt surprise for yourself:
The video was taken at the party in May, but was posted last week on the Welcome Home Blog. On the blog, Susie stated that Justin had been away for three months prior to this surprise.
The Times states that Justin is now deployed in the United Arab Emirates with Coastal Riverine Squadron 11 and is expected to return home soon.

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 5:22pmVery nice to see these types of homecomings. While I was single when I was in the Navy; and having been on two West Pac deployments (9 months each); it was a sure bet that at least 5 married sailors would be moving back aboard after the first few days home from these deployments. Momma found a brand new toy.

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 12:09pmI,too,love these videos and am usually reduced to tears having been married to a solider I recall the excitement of the homecomings, but I am also saddened by all those chidren who don’t get to have their Mom or Dad come home at all and that is why it is so important to thank our military when you have a chance.

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 11:41amI had a similar experience as a child. My dad worked for a department store, and they would have family get togethers for various holidays. The electronics manager was a giant 6′ 9″ guy, and they turned on the stockroom exhaust fan, making the hanging plastic doors blow inward as us kids watched him enter in the Darth Vader suit, wind to his face, with the Empire Strikes Back theme song blasting on the store sound system. I remember that to this day…

Posted on November 12, 2012 at 10:55amI’m such a sucker for these “Welcome Home” moments. Little boy thoroughly caught up in his Star Wars fantasy, only to have it topped by his dream-come-true: Daddy home for his birthday. :)
