With so much talk from both parties about the looming “Fiscal Cliff,” our friends at the Media Research Center (MRC) took to the streets to find out what people really knew about the fast approaching deadline (and cuts) that will trigger significant changes in the way American government works.

    I can’t continue to live in a country where people who are either this stupid or uninformed can vote to enslave me and my family with insurmountable debt forever. And I don’t really feel that I should have to suffer along side the “Obama phone” lady and other worthless parasites who voted for free birth control – let them deal with the change that they voted for. Let me just live my life without being coerced to comply with the morality of others, especially when I find it immoral to do so.

      I admire your sentiment: why won’t these progressive big government types just leave me alone? Unfortunately no matter how loudly you scream for them to “Stop he world, I want to get off” they won’t hear you because they don’t care. If you’ve never considered it before the concept of accepting our fate (i.e., giving them the “consent of the governed”) will no longer allow us to ignore what those crazy people in DC are doing. It’s also become very clear that you don’t have the choice to live a peaceful, constructive life, support church and charity and live according to your conscience. This much is clear with regards to the United States government (Obama administration version): religious freedom consists in being free to engage in private rituals and prayers, but not in carrying your religious convictions into public life. Your conscience doesn’t matter in “real life” – the state is all that matters. Lately I’ve been wondering how the 1 billion plus people in China came to be comfortable with their version of this sort of dictatorship – if they can do it, why can’t we? Is that my only choice?

    Obama’s ineptitude created the FISCAL CLIFF. Entitlements are UP 40%, income tax payers are DOWN 60% of Clinton levels and total employment is now 1% BELOW Obama took office.     One last one that got cut off from my above lists is a BRAND NEW 3.8% ‘Investment Tax’ on all Real Estate Sales, courtesy of ‘ObamaCare.’

    Also, don’t forget that all these changes are at the Federal level, they do not include State and Local taxes, most of which are on the INCREASE all over the country.

    When you consider all these taxes, even a stalwart leftist has to admit this will negatively impact the economy. Of course, that is exactly what the stalwart leftist may be hoping for…

      Very good post, thanks for laying it all out there. Crazy all that is only on the federal level. I’m from just outside Harrisburg PA, glad I don’t live in the city, they are getting ready to raise taxes in a broke city. All just to cover their own mindless spending.

    First, the ‘fiscal cliff’ is a metaphor, not an actual cliff. The ‘fiscal cliff’ is a media reference to a collection of new taxes, increases to existing tax rates, and budget cuts that WILL go into effect beginning on January 1, 2013 unless congress intervenes. Here is a quick summary:

    Federal Income Tax Rate Increases: (deducted from your paycheck):

    -Tax Bracket 1: 10% increases to 15%
    -Tax Bracket 2: 25% increases to 28%
    -Tax Bracket 3: 28% increases to 31%
    -Tax Bracket 4: 33% increases to 36%
    -Tax Bracket 5: 35% increases to 39.6%

    Federal Payroll Tax Rate Increases: (also deducted from your paycheck):

    -Social Security Deductions INCREASE From 4.2% to 6.2%
    -Medicare Withholding INCREASE From 1.5% to 2.4%

    Federal Child & Marriage Credits:

    -Childcare Tax Credit DROPS From $1,000 to $500
    -Child Credits DROPS From $3,000 to $2,400
    -Standard Itemized Deductions Married Couples Can Claim DROPS From $11,900 To $9,900 (Based on a combined annual salary of ~174k)

    Federal Investment Taxes

    -Estate Tax (“Death Tax”) INCREASE From 35% to 55%

    when people in general within the liberal Democratic Party are more concerned about getting “free cell phones”. Asking them about this “fiscal cliff” is no more different than asking them about Jimmie Cliff or Cliff Robertson, or any geographical cliff. They don’t care, because when you pay nothing and someone gives you something, imaginary for free. That fiscal cliff is pointless,
    Now tell them, they are to be cut off from cell phone use, or Oprah or satellite TV services, and hell hath no fury as a free loading liberal.

      Don’t forget free abortions and “reproductive rights”. Ironic isn’t it? To liberals killing a baby is seen as reproduction.
      It’s more important to liberals that there’s a man in the white house who “understands womens’ issues” and won’t stop them from getting abortions..anytime. This is the dumbing down of the American people in all it’s splendor. They can’t fathom how a fiscal collapse of the nation would affect all these “rights” they’re so concerned about. They’ve been conditioned to believe that “tax the rich” will fix it.
      You think I’m kidding? I’ve asked numerous liberals why they voted for Obama this time and all I’m hearing is “abortion, womens’ issues, Romeny doesn’t understand anyone who’s not rich, tax the rich”. NONE of them can tell me what the deficit is but they all can tell me that Romney is “wishy washy”, is only for rich people and will take away their “right” to an abortion.

    There is nothing funny about this.. Funny is not the word. We have an intellectual vacuum in is Country, and they vote. Nobody should be allowed to vote without unlocking the machine with a simple test naming the 3 branches of Government to prove that they have a clue as to what they are voting for… Pretty simple.

      Just saw Jay Leno’s bit on Fox from last night where he was talking about how we are aimed at that Fiscal Cliff right now and the nation just elected a president whose motto is “Forward.” I’d have to say that Jay is spot on this time.
