Vice President Joe Biden is no gumshoe, but that didn’t stop him from making a coveted 1993 cameo appearance on the game show “Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?” Long before becoming the nation’s second most powerful leader (and making numerous gaffes along the way), Biden made the brief and comical appearance on the once-popular PBS program.
The clip was first re-discovered by and posted on the Political Smokeout blog earlier this week. Here’s some context, as published yesterday:
Growing up, one of my favorite things was the PBS game show “Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?” where kid contestants would try to win prizes by using their knowledge of geography to track down the fictional crook. I was unfortunately slightly too young to have any hope of being a contestant, but I still remember researching Reykjavik, Iceland for a viewer contest, and never stopped loving the show’s Rockapella theme song.
So imagine how excited I was to discover this episode excerpt from Nov. 8, 1993, where the game show’s host Greg Lee receives a phone call from a certain Delaware senator who has since moved on to bigger and better things:
