New Shock: Top U.S. General Investigated for Thousands of Pages of ‘Inappropriate’ Emails to Petraeus Friend
ABOARD A U.S. MILITARY AIRCRAFT (AP) — In a new twist to the Gen. David Petraeus sex scandal, the Pentagon said Tuesday that the top American commander in Afghanistan, Gen. John Allen, is under investigation for alleged “inappropriate communications” with a woman who is said to have received threatening emails from Paula Broadwell, the woman with whom Petraeus had an extramarital affair.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said in a written statement issued to reporters aboard his aircraft, en route from Honolulu to Perth, Australia, that the FBI referred the matter to the Pentagon on Sunday.
Panetta said that he ordered a Pentagon investigation of Allen on Monday.
A senior defense official traveling with Panetta said Allen’s communications were with Jill Kelley, who has been described as an unpaid social liaison at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., which is headquarters to the U.S. Central Command. She is not a U.S. government employee.
Kelley is said to have received threatening emails from Broadwell, who is Petraeus’ biographer and who had an extramarital affair with Petraeus that reportedly began after he became CIA director in September 2011.
Petraeus resigned as CIA director on Friday.
Allen, a four-star Marine general, succeeded Petraeus as the top American commander in Afghanistan in July 2011.
The senior official, who discussed the matter only on condition of anonymity because it is under investigation, said Panetta believed it was prudent to launch a Pentagon investigation, although the official would not explain the nature of Allen’s problematic communications.
The official said 20,000 to 30,000 pages of emails and other documents from Allen’s communications with Kelley between 2010 and 2012 are under review. He would not say whether they involved sexual matters or whether they are thought to include unauthorized disclosures of classified information. He said he did not know whether Petraeus is mentioned in the emails.
“Gen. Allen disputes that he has engaged in any wrongdoing in this matter,” the official said. He said Allen currently is in Washington.
Panetta said that while the matter is being investigated by the Defense Department Inspector General, Allen will remain in his post as commander of the International Security Assistance Force, based in Kabul. He praised Allen as having been instrumental in making progress in the war.
The FBI’s decision to refer the Allen matter to the Pentagon rather than keep it itself, combined with Panetta’s decision to allow Allen to continue as Afghanistan commander without a suspension, suggested strongly that officials viewed whatever happened as a possible infraction of military rules rather than a violation of federal criminal law.
Allen was Deputy Commander of Central Command, based in Tampa, prior to taking over in Afghanistan. He also is a veteran of the Iraq war.
In the meantime, Panetta said, Allen’s nomination to be the next commander of U.S. European Command and the commander of NATO forces in Europe has been put on hold “until the relevant facts are determined.” He had been expected to take that new post in early 2013, if confirmed by the Senate, as had been widely expected.
Panetta said President Barack Obama was consulted and agreed that Allen’s nomination should be put on hold. Allen was to testify at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Thursday. Panetta said he asked committee leaders to delay that hearing.
Panetta also said he wants the Senate Armed Services Committee to act promptly on Obama’s nomination of Gen. Joseph Dunford to succeed Allen as commander in Afghanistan. That nomination was made several weeks ago. Dunford’s hearing is also scheduled for Thursday.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 6:50amWhy does the military need an “unpaid social liaison?” It seems that there is an awful lot of social mischief going on in the military? How could a general write that many pages of emails and still be able to carry out his day to day duties? Does he not have enough to do?
Why are so many military leaders being taken down at once? What is going on? I hate to surprise anyone but sex goes on in the military. The big shots don’t divorce because they won’t get their promotions unless they appear “stable” in their personal lives. It’s nothing new. So why is this happening now? Six generals taken down in a few months time?
The military, since Obama has been in office, has been under attack by this regime to roll over and become a rainbow organization. It was already heading in that direction. Christian military chaplains are under orders not to share their faith. That is blatantly against the constitution that states it is illegal to prevent the free exercise of religion. Why are people afraid to take on the many assaults against our constitution by this regime? Maybe the fact that they can throw and election?

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 8:32amThere have always been sexual misconduct in the military. My ex son in law was in the Nave long before “Don’t ask, Don’y tell” and he was approached by a male sailor. He told him to bug off but never mentioned the incident till after he left the service.
Read the story of King David in the bible. David, as king, was the supreme commander of the military and he lusted for the wife of one of his commanders while the commander was away. What’s the old saying, “There’s nothing new under the sun”?
It seemsw, however, that this administration is hell bent on destroying the confidence in the military and besmirching the images of military leaders. America has always held our military in high esteem. Our military leaders are human beings and therefore prone to making mistakes. In the past, if something like this happened, the general would be asked to quietly resign, with no fanfare. Now, it seems that this administration wants to air the dirty laundry and thereby cause people to lose respect for the military in general.
One wonders how much of this same thing went on in the USSR’s, China’s, Cuban’s or Hitler’s military but was never revealed. In those cases, the paramour was told to shut up or just disappeared.
If you want to undermine the respect for the military, just start persecuting its leadership. This is Obama’s plan because he knows there isn’t a single person in the military who likes him or truly supports him or his agenda worldwide.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 9:47amMaybe some of these commanders should take a lesson from Billy Graham, who would not even allow himself to be in a room alone with another woman other than his wife. Power is a heady aphrodisiac and can blind one that they can conduct themselves outside the boundaries of honor and proper decorum. What if either of these women had been spies for Iran, Russia, China, and used an inappropriate relationship to either blackmail or otherwise snag information from these men that would be useful for a foreign adversary? The Russians have done such things in the past. Eh, who cares anymore really though, we apparently live in a new age of complete permissibility and carnal liberation, so long as you express the proper politically correct doctrine.

So, Panetta learned of Allen on Sunday, ordered an investigation on Monday, put ‘on hold’ Allen’s nomination for command of NATO forces, which, he said, President Obama agreed (meaning, Obama was made aware within two days). And we are supposed to believe Obama didn’t know about Petraeus…AFTER the FBI had been investigating him for months?? Okay…

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 10:06amThis is Saul Alinsky generated attack on our military. The top brass represents the institution of the United States Military, and by discrediting them, and dishonoring them, it fulfills 2 functions.
#1) It generates mistrust and lack of loyalty in the chain of command. Especially between the enlisted and officer corp. Much like what is happening now in the civilian world with Obama’s class warfare. By extending this spirit into the military it will cause fractures that Obama can exploit (Should he need too)
#2) It sends a message to the Pentagon and the Military Leadership that Obama is firmly in control, and expects their loyalty, and a warning to those that oppose him.
For those of you that see Obama as clueless, stupid, out-of-touch…etc. I think you need to revise your thinking.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 3:51amI been thinking about all of this lately, and you know what? I have a feeling this is about “destroying” the military’s legitimacy in the mind of the general public. It’s kind of like taking a sand castle down, or kicking a house of cards. They first began with inputing gays into the military by force. They’ve allowed many of our soilders overseas become suspect to outside forces while serving in the Middle East, bring about various counts of crime and such, even allowing insurgents kill them while on and off duty, such as the guy that was killed while lifting weights, that told his father that “these people are going to kill me”, and then Benghazi occured. They’ve gave away thousands of arms to drug cartels and the Media is complicit in not reporting the Gun Runner program appropriately. Not to mention, they left our border guards with their hands practically tied behind their backs. And now they’ve begun going after the Military’s highest officers at random. I’m sorry, all of this going on with our military is almost like one big excuse to not only strip away funding, and lessen their power overall, but make it even harder for the military to recruit incoming potential service men. You have to think about it in the shoes of a parent, in particularly, the mother. Moms don’t want their kids joining the military primarily because of the potential for thier child to die in combat. It’s begun, sor tof like the widlfires on the West Coast. They say they have no idea how they happened or who caused it. But you can easily point out the ones involved and how it may have happened. Illegals jumping the border at night needing warmth in the cold nights, and environmentalist groups preventing controlled burns with asinine policies to protect an owl that’s really close to being extinct by the course of nature. And then they have a stupid look on their faces as if they didn’t know that could happen, so the make up a bald faced lie: Global Warming is involved….some how.
In the case of these “coincidences’ with the Military, if they can deplete the military of it’s power, they can pretty much become the controlling force of the people, so they think. they’ll use said money that’s used to protect this nation to fund their unions and flip a middle finger to those that love Liberty and Country. It’s almost classical Marxism, except even the Marxists knew they’d be vulnerable to outside forces without an Army. Today’s Progressives will play their cards just like the Progressives of old, when the storm hits, they’ll run like cowards and blame GOD for their failures.
Be ready people. These next four years are going to be either comical or very long on grief and failure.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 3:41amIt sounds to me like Ms. Kelly in her roll as an unpaid social liaison for a military base should be referred to as Madame Kelly. I have a feeling that possibly Paula Broadwell may have been objecting to the social comfort and aide Madame Kelly provided to the military.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 3:38amMilitary leadership purge. Make sure the troops know who is really in charge, or else! I am sure that Obama and his ilk have something on everyone in D.C. so they can keep them on a short leash and if they tug that leash too hard, they become the example.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 2:44amOops. I forgot to mention that both white males are also heterosexuals, seeing that they are having affairs with females.
I think I see the real war. It’s the war against white, heterosexual, males.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 4:00amDiane TX are you maybe referring underlying reasons BHO took $5,000,000,000.00 from the stimulus slush fund and gave it to black farmers? It seems many in this administration feel the ancestors of the slaves brought to this country are due money and property, and because of Colonialism by European countries that all people of color deserve to take from those of European heritage to pay for past transgressions.

Panetta said Obama was consulted about General Allen’s e- mails but not about Benghazi ?.
The more I think about this, the more I think that top military commanders are being railroaded and set up for the fall, do not forget Panetta HATES the military and has for years. To me this a continuation of the dismantlement of the US military. Big Time!

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 2:00amIs this a systematic removal of top military officials so that BO and the powers that be can continue to destroy America? I read a week ago or so about a Navy (I think Admiral) was removed from his ship for an investigation. They gave no reason as to what it was about. Something is not right. The people needing to be investigated sit in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Posted on November 13, 2012 at 7:21amYou are right on here, this is nothing more than a purge of military people in a position of power that don’t like the current administration. I’ll wager to bet there is allot more in those emails that pillow talk! Obama also hates the military and any chance to disparage it he will.
