On Monday night, Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly had some tough words for secular progressives, highlighting their purportedly dangerous views on social and economic issues. The subject of his “Talking Points Memo” segment asked, “Is traditional America gone for good?”

The popular television host commenced the segment by noting his belief that traditional America can, once again, rise to prominence, however, he contended that “it will take a very special person to make that happen.” To corroborate O’Reilly’s point that the nation may, indeed, bounce back to its traditional roots, he noted that, despite winning re-election, Obama is slipping in popularity.

“Left-wing ideology did not win the day for Barack Obama. Big spending on federal programs did. That’s the key,” O’Reilly said. “Because many in the media would have us believe that liberal ideology was confirmed by this election. It was not.”

Or particular note, O’Reilly hammered the president’s secular progressivism, claiming that Obama is “the poster guy” for the anti-traditionalist movement. After showcasing statistics and information surrounding births out of wedlock, abortion and other societal issues, the host noted that secular progressives have done little to curb these phenomena.

“Abortion is settled law in the USA, but it should be discouraged, because human DNA is present upon conception,” O’Reilly said. “Thus the situation becomes a human rights issue.”

The host asked if Americans want to live in a nation “where potential human life…is terminated for convenience.” As for marijuana legalization, another issue he tackled during the segment, he held little back, noting that, ”Legalizing pot sends a message that it’s fine to use it.”

From their stance on the “mythical war on women” to out-of-control entitlement spending, O’Reilly had no accolades to shower upon secular progressives. In fact, he made it clear that the movement, led by Obama, is a hazard to the nation’s social and political health.

“I believe the American people can be persuaded that the far left is a dangerous outlet bent on destroying traditional America and replacing it with a social free-fire zone that replaces it with dependency and poverty,” O’Reilly proclaimed.

Less than one week after the election and all manner of information comes out. Bill, you could have said this when it meant something but you wouldn’t. Now its just joining what will be the never ending faint chorus of “oh crap, what do we have now”. Too little too late. I’m not watching Fox News, they pretty much sold out.

  Traditional America? The 1950s were not traditional America. The late 19th century and early 20th had deplorable irking conditions. Poor people were sent to The Poor House. Prior to that people toiled on farms for basic substinance. We had two world wars, continued racial segregation and institutionalized racism and a Great Depression in the twentieth century. The only constant were the rich living lifestyles of extravagance at the expense of the masses. That is what the Koch brothers (who’s father made his fortune building Soviet oil fields for Stalin) and their ilk want us back to. Low wages, no health care, education for the wealthy only, and poverty in old age was the tradition for the first 150 years of this country.

  Regardless of his timing or what you think of Bill O as a person, he is absolutely right.
  
  There are those who think no rules = freedom; this is as false as the notions that we can regulate bad behavior out of existence, or force people to make proper decisions.
  
  There is a God, He has rules, and disobeying those rules have consequences. It is our duty to use our ability to reason and to receive revelation to enact laws that walk the fine line between maximum freedom and minimal government, thus allowing people to use their ability to choose that they may learn, while protecting them from things whose consequences are very dear.

  True freedom comes through self control. My rights end where another’s begins. You cannot legislate or tax freedom into existence. I don’t think that Bill gets it. We don’t need more legislation that harms our right of self determination. There are higher laws/ consequences in life and beyond for bad decisions. Attempting to force people to live the way you want is how we got here in the first place! Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, I for one am tired of or politicians bickering over which rights and freedoms they can restrict next or who gets stuff at others expense! Both political parties are guilty. This is not what America was founded upon. The culture war is about hearts and minds. It’s about getting our own house in order and not forcing our will upon others who are unwilling. The culture war can only be won by willing participants.

  I only wish he was correct. Secular progressives WILL win the day but it is still a way off. Traditional america is dying and it should. It worked for a while but when will you people wake up and realize your can’t run a modern government based on ideals that are 200 years old (or thousands of years old if you still believe the bible).
  Face the facts. Who is rated as the “happiest” and most secure countries year after year? It is those dreaded European socialist countries. Who was just rated the wealthiest? The evil European socialist group of Scandanavian countries. Secular progressives are the way of the future. American exceptionalism is a joke and only prevents us from moving forward. While social conditions weren’t ideal in America during the last 150 they were idyllic compared to conditions in most countries on Earth, this is a fact. Even today, “poor Americans” live far better than most people on countries like India, China, which is saying a good percentage of humanity. Not no mention the formal political rights Americans are granted.
  If America achieved such living and political standards: freedom, equal rights, etc. it’s only because of Judeo Chrisitian ethics, which enabled capitalism, this is a well known fact among sociologists, O’reilly is referring to that.
  Unfortunately people like you think like spoiled brats, your navel-gazing ideology makes you ignore the sufferings of humanity.

  Socialism wants to make heaven on earth through mans control. The new Golden Calf Idol Big Government, which takes care of everyone. You have to give up a lot of freedom for that to work, which when human nature shows up as it always does, socialism does not work. They never take into account human nature.

The combined lame stream media is massive compared to Fox, so they tend to be too cautious. It’s the same reason they showed Beck the door even though his rating numbers were great..

Technology and improvements in quality of life throught the 20th century were not the result of government actions or programs. You would have us sell our selves into bondage for 10,000 years as the Hebrews did with Pharaoh just to eat. That happened to them because they became complacent and failed to prepare for their own survival because they could always just put it on Pharaoh’a tab when food ran out.   Totally agree!! Before 2008 I remember OReilly talking extensively about the perils of voting Obama into office. After the election, and through his entire presidency, I have not heard a ringing form of disagreement from his show about the policies coming from the administration. Now he tells us! Makes no sense. This is one of the issues I had with this election. If I was Romney I would have been out there with bells and whistles explaining exactly what Obamacare will mean, pulling out paragraph and page number of the policies that will hurt the country and passing them out at campaign stops (this is just one explample I can think of). The candidates spent billions of dollars on the race, you can’t tell me the Romney campaign could not find a couple of lawyers to go over the bill, pull it out, print it and and inform those who needed to truely understand what this bill means.

He was always giving these Leftists the benefit of the doubt while they actively undermined our society and our Constitution, now when it’s too late, he wants to state the obvious.   But since you did bring up economics. Let just take the past 100 years. When did we have the most prosperiety? Was it under Coolidge, Eisenhower and Reagan? Or was it under Roosevelt, Carter, and Obama?

Sorry Bill, you blew it when asked who you support. Either you make a stand and fail or, not make one and fall.   @Dogdr Let’s see how well those almost homogeneous Scandanavian countries do when the US is no longer footing the bill to protect their enlightened rear ends from Russia. If I were living in a small country as devoid of diversity as theirs (meaning just about everyone shares my culture and values) and I did not neet to travel 30 miles just to get to a town with a feed store I would probably be contented as well. Not a good example to compare with a nation as large and geographically and culturally diverse as ours. Oh, and did I mention they don’t give benefits to non citizens.

  Oreilly and Fox News seem to have taken sides with the wh…..I remember many things, during election season, that they did not follow up on but should have…….don’t watch them much anymore either……just get my news on the internet mostly now and my own research……….I wondered if Murdoch did a “deal” with Barry regarding his company in england that was in trouble?

Bill Orielly is Major Frank Burns from Mash, only with a microphone instead of a stethoscope. He’s a loud mouthed buffoon, a bully who used to always get beat up on the playground untiI he sprouted up to 6 11 or however tall this knuckle dragger came to be. I don’t know how anyone with 1/4 of a brain still watches him after his “we don’t even know how the tides works” retort to Richard Dawkins. Unless, that is, you watch him the way I do, as a sociology experiment which studies the power of high decibel propaganda.

  regarding the “Most watched CABLE News Show” claim by O’Reilly…. look at the media buys, compare to MSNBC. While the total audience is higher at FNS, the viewers skew to 55+. Media planners want 35-54 and MSNBC’s numbers have been getting closer and closer to FNS for the demographic that advertisers want. FNS’s perceived bias keeps many buyers away from that audience. Which by the way pales in comparison to what Walter Cronkite drew in 1980, 15 million plus average and O’Reilly is but only half of what networks still get [3.5 to 4.5 million viewers vs. Bill's 2.2m to 2.5m]. The word for today is “bloviator”….Pompous blowhard, using their celebrity to speak about topics on which they are totally unqualified.

  Honestly, I’m a big liberal, but to say that MSNBC has no perceived bias is insane. During the election, I was going around the dial, including to Fox News, to get the full spread of broadcast news, and some of the MSNBC cheerleading made me sick.

But he still refuses to say it is the Communists/Socialists/ Progressives/Radicals/Anarchists working towards the same ends.. Maybe it is ego that he refuses to understand that Glenn is closer to the truth than about anyone out there.   I for one am glad for his “conversion”. May seem late but better than never getting it. As far as Blazers, I have a message to you. I am tired of the anger towards everyone, it is useless, and only hurts the person. We aren’t yet humble enough and we have a job to do to keep the next generation being like the young one now. We still have choices, typing here all day (and night) or doing something to change the hearts and minds in the socialist schools. Parents vote in school boards, can create hell when teachers are out of control, so get hot. Read the texts of books used, and challenge everything thats distorted or wrong. As for the gloater trolls, well I think I pity you. Progressives continue to believe that they will somehow create a social utopia and that they will avoid the vicious results of other socialist and communist countries. This belief can only be supported if one is ignorant, arrogant or both. We have created or allowed to be created, a large perhaps majority of the population that are uneducated, unskilled and dependent on government handouts. I see no way of returning this country to the things that made it powerful: moral strength and individual liberty (which has at its core self reliance)

  GONZO, I don’t know. I do recall seeing a major change wash over this nation as Reagan was sworn in. After just four years of the damage that Carter committed. It was as if there was a national sigh of relief. Reagan was not called the Great Communicator for no reason. Trouble is, there is not another Ronald Reagan, but there should be somebody out there who can rise above all of this before this country as we know it is gone. But, its going to take all of us to get behind a person who can lead and turn this mess around. I am thoroughly ticked that so many Republicans sat at home instead of voting. I’m mad as hell at those within the military or DoD personnel who shipped hundreds of thousands of military absentee ballots to Afghanistan since they were boxed and “accidnentally” labeled as ammunition and subsequently shipped to Afghanistan and were only discovered the day after the deadline that cut off vote counting. Talk about voter disenfranchising! This is nothing new either. Al Gore got away with it in Florida during the vote count dispute.

  R.J., Seems like yesterday to me as well, but that was a long time ago and the country wasn’t as far down the drain as it is now. Romney was as good of a morality role model as there was in politics today. They destroyed him, made him look evil. America gets what it deserves, an immoral country will never elect a moral leader. That’s why we need to change things from the ground up. All that being said, I don’t think it will happen. I think the moral decline continues and this country becomes Europe. Europe had 60 years of U.S. protection, who is going to protect us?

  I watched it last night also. I thought that Bill was mostly right. As far as there has to one politician to turn it around, Regan was a great example. Do you believe that in all of America there is not one voice that has the right message? My faith tells me that there has to be at least one leader out there to be the example. He or she is probably afraid to speak up because they see how we eat our own. They see the trails they will have to endure if they speak up. When that person comes forth with the message, we have to stand behind them. The democraps have beaten us down because they do not go after each other. I pray that God gives us the courage to see the truth and accept it.

The other day I saw 3 young women (at least 18 yrs. of age each) in the grocery store together. Each one of them was pushing a baby stroller, and each one of them pulled out an EBT card to pay for their groceries. It was like “girls day out” for them together at the local grocery store. It was sickening.. perfectly healthy young women playing the “system” rather than trying to get a job.

  My brother has long been unable (due to life-choices) to really have a lucrative job. That’s bad enough. He also has serious health limitations for which he needs maintenance medications. He applied for charity health care, and provided a financial statement to prove his low income. They insisted that he had to be on food stamps to receive further consideration. Up until then he had put food in his belly, clothes on his back, and gas in his car with no help, but it didn’t matter. In other words: they aren’t happy unless you are on at least two government assistance programs. They proactively reward dependence.

  Soy’s argument is sound. O’Reilly is saying his progressive view is better than the secular progressive view and the government (or that one special politician) should legislate his version of morality. He completely misses, as do many progressives, that his views should be handled by the states and not the central government. O’Reilly is a giant statist as are most social conservatives.
