Out of Town Electrical Worker Helping Restore Power in New York Severely Beaten by Unknown Attacker

If you thought utility workers in Connecticut being pelted with eggs and then subsequently put under police protection while they were working to help Hurricane Sandy victims was bad, wait until you hear about what happened to an out-of-state electrician in New York.

WTSP reported that John Applewhite, an electrician from Florida helping restore power on Long Island, was beaten to the point where he now has a broken jaw, among other facial fractures, and a black eye.

Applewhite, who is now back in Florida awaiting surgery, said he doesn’t know what spurred his attacker to single him out. WTSP reported Applewhite’s recollection of the incident:

“He met me halfway between my truck and his vehicle, and just as I got within arm’s reach, he decked me,” said John Applewhite.

Applewhite doesn’t know why he was attacked or by whom. Police say its was a guy in a black BMW who took off after the assault.

Watch the report with Applewhite talking about what happened from his hospital bed:

My Fox NY reported Applewhite saying that he didn’t have any prior indication that the man would attack him.

“He was in a nice vehicle, dressed fairly nice from what I could tell,” Applewhite said, according to the news station.

My Fox NY also reported a co-worker, one of the 24 who went up from Lakeland, Fla., to assist other utility workers, came to help Applewhite and was bitten by the attacker.

Nassau police are investigating the incident.

It sounds like he was attacked by a union thug who was brought in to run them off. Remember, these people threatened violence on a group of non-union power workers from Alabama.

Just confirms why I have only been in NYC once – and hat ed it! In spite of this, my wife and I boxed/bagged up 15 bags of clothing to help those in need out because of Sandy. Then we could not find anyone locally collecting items and then that canned goods and such would only be accepted from companies such as Kroger or other grocery retailers.

At that point, we gave everything to a veterans group who will put it all towards good use on helping veterans and their families.

Upon learning more and more about the people and their behavior in NYC and NJ – I am more than glad of where our donations went.

Let these less than human liberals stew in their own disaster and misery!

Next time they can fend for themselves. Unprepared and unable to protect themselves from the looters and thugs taking what little the people had. The Media of course not reporting that. How many of the dead were murderd for IPads and Cellphones when if allowed to own a firearm you could have protected yourself and you family? Oh wait your elected and beloved Mayor dictated no guns for citizens; only for the criminals. Call 911 and NYPD will be there in a mere second to save you.
You should have been ready people, you had a week, and chose to ignore the warnings. Of course what can one expect in two of the most liberl states that expected immediate reults from Lord Obama. What a joke.
Americans come to help and what to you do: Refuse non-union help, throw eggs and cuss the workers. Rot in your ******* elitist world next time!!!

Where’s the description of the attacker? Race, build, hair color, anything?
Since he bit the other utility worker, this attacker needs to be found, in case the attacker has AIDS or Hepatitis.

I sure hope someone turns this devil into authorities. He’s bound to have bragged about his evil deeds to someone.

Remember the only weapon allowed in NYC is your teeth. That was all he had to fight with. Bloomberg will probably pass a new law now in NYC to pull all citizens teeth so this can never happen again. Damn shame the guys from Florida could not have their God given right to protect themselves in NYC. A .45 cal would have stopped this entire situation instantly!!!

So how would people react to a major solar flare that took the electrical grid down for a few weeks or months? It seems that any natural disaster brings out both the best and worst of people.

When the ice storm hit WV a few years back, my wife and I were up visiting her relatives. There were crews there from all over. We ran into a few workers at a steak house. When we left, we made a point to thank them. They told us, they had had mixed reactions from the locals. Some of them were cussed out for not having it back fast enough. I find it a sad state of affairs, that we have all become Cain. I would want to leave NY for this, but for all of the people who are truly thankful. Christ told us, among other things, that we would be hated and if we were His followers, we would pick up or crosses daily. I pray that the attacker finds God, and soon. The world is de-evolving, rapidly.

well, looks like New York will be paying this young man time and a half as well as his hospital bills. sad case. I do hope it is a lone loony, and not some stupid union thing, or some idiot still without power. Big storms over big areas mean long repair times. And if you choose to live in the boonies, you are on the low end of the repair list.

What have we come to? Here is a young man, giving freely of his time to help others, and he is attacked fo that. Do we have animals in New York, or what? What brings this type of behavior on? Well, sad to say, if it was me, I’d let them fend for themselves, although I know that is a terrible attitude to have. Maybe they could use some humility. I think I will just pray for all of them, the good and the bad. Breaks my heart!

Sounds like a thug union rep to me….

And don’ feel bad for feeling the way you do.
I’m a central NY’er and would not lift a finger to help those in NYC.
NYC is just the toilet bowl of NY State. Sucking the rest of the state dry.
To The NYC dwellers, the rest of NY State are nothing but s bunch of Hicks and farmers.
When the rest of the country has experienced some kind of devastation, it’s never NYC lending a hand to you. It’s the good people from the rest of this State.

While what this guy was doing was laudable, he most certainly was not giving freely of his time. I guarantee you that he was making at least time and a half, possibly double time, plus per diem, plus overtime.
