Susan Rice Now a Definite Favorite for Secretary of State

Last week, when President Obama won reelection, we predicted that despite her highly odd behavior in the aftermath of the attacks in Benghazi, UN Ambassador Susan Rice would almost certainly still be a favorite to replace retiring Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton. Now several reports – as aggregated by the National Journal – are confirming precisely that.

First, there is a New York Times report, which states:

Ms. Rice, an outspoken, ambitious diplomat with close ties to Mr. Obama, has emerged as the clear favorite. But she would face stiff resistance on Capitol Hill, where she has come under withering criticism from Republicans for asserting that the deadly attack on the American mission in Benghazi, Libya, might have been a spontaneous protest rather than a terrorist attack.

Then, there is this passage from a Washington Post story:

Although Kerry is thought to covet the job of secretary of state, senior administration officials familiar with the transition planning said that nomination will almost certainly go to Susan E. Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.[...]

Rice, one of an inner circle of aides who have been with Obama since his first presidential campaign in 2007, is under particular fire over the Benghazi incident, in which U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed.

Some Republican lawmakers have suggested that she was part of what they suspect was an initial election-related attempt to portray the attack as a peaceful demonstration that turned violent, rather than what the administration now acknowledges was an organized terrorist assault.

Rice’s description, days after the attack, of a protest gone wrong indicated that she either intentionally misled the country or was incompetent, Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said Sunday. Rice, he said, “would have an incredibly difficult time” winning Senate confirmation as secretary of state.

But several White House officials said Obama is prepared to dig in his heels over her nomination to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton, who has long said she will serve only one term.

Needless to say, if these predictions turn out to be true, Rice’s confirmation hearings may become the closest thing available to a full-scale floor fight over the attacks in Benghazi. However, in the absence of clear-cut evidence of wrongdoing on her part, it is possible that she will squeak by, given the increasingly Democratic makeup of the Senate.

In fact, ironically enough, the size of the Senate Democratic majority may be a factor impeding the other top contender, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, whose seat is reportedly seen as being in jeopardy if he is tapped for a senior administration post.

The stupid announcements of our exit dates; leaving our troops still there more vulnerable; the increasing number of Taliban / al Qaeda attacks on civilians and soldiers/ hanging our old allies out to dry / now this assault on our military leaders. Anyone who doesn’t ” get” what the Obama administration is up to is either a brainwashed fool or part of their anti-American, anti-capitalist, anti-military cabal.

  If your kid is in the military you need to be worried about where they are going to sleep when they show up on your doorstep with their family in tow. They are looking at layoff notices the first of the year and where are they going to find jobs? This is what we are looking at with Obama and his Chicago mob in charge.

  I had to tell my son he could no longer enlist next year in the Marines last week. He already knew I was iffy about it even if Mitt won because of the corruption and progressives that are now in the top brass.
  Yes, I am aware he will be 18 and can enlist w/o my approval, but I also know he respects my ‘intuition’ or knowledge on these matters.
  I told him he will be needed here, at home, where the ‘war’ will be brought to us–in many forms. I will not let him be used as a little toy green army man that ALL of DC thinks are disposable.

  Ok, you liars, first, she never used the word “might.” She said that it started as a protest and radical factions had taken advantage of the protests to attack the embassy. And she stated it as fact.
  Second, we now know that is an outright lie, because Barack the Traitor had emails, as well as live feed from the consulate cameras and the drone.
  
  She’s a liar and complicit in the Benghazi coverup. Ergo, she will be the next Sec of State. Rice had ALWAYS been Barack’s pick. However, The Traitor had to put up with Hillary for four years, because he was aware that he would need Bill to campaign for him in 2008 and 2012.

  When Obama instigated the Arab Spring, he wanted the commie Muslims to take over. He tried to do it in Kenya as senator, but didn’t quite pull it off (although he managed to get his man inside the new govt.). He thought as POTUS he would finally be able to achieve his dream. It backfired, because the young leftists were creamed by the MB.
  
  Obama has allied himself with Islamists, but commies and Islamists have an unholy alliance, meaning that they have united because they both want to destroy the West and everything it represents. It’s a dangerous game because there may come a time when Islamists tell Barack to shove his financial aid, and then they will attack us full scale.

I have to ask a serious question of all on the Blaze:

Most know I consider Obama completely insane, and out of touch with reality. Could we already have seen a coup staged from within his own admin; the members of the cabinet are running the show and making decrees and events happen in the name of Obama?

Glenn mentioned that Obama is in danger from within; this sounds more and more like we have an figurehead President with each department running their own show in their own fiefdom’s. And now Benghazi has unraveled their secret.

Does it sound plausible?

Mind you its only speculation on my part.

  Hey Snow, I believe that has been going on this entire time. I would venture to guess that is why he hasn’t met with many cabinet members for years and why he always seems to not know what is happening in any number of situations surrounding this admin. He, however, is not an ‘empty suit’ that many refer to him as.
  That is not to say that he is a radical with much power and he does wield it, but I would bet that each of his ‘buddies’ control select sectors of government to which he has no say nor does he care to. That has been my firm belief for a few years.
  It is the shadow government they have long planned for and have now completely installed.
  
  And why not float rice for SoS? Us dummy Americans have swallowed last weeks election lies without so much as a whimper. And Ben who???
  And don’t you worry about a thing when it comes to the senate confirmation for rice because I am positive that the highly esteemed GOP senators will put a show on for the cameras to make real conservatives believe that they will put up a fight because they are morally disgusted and offended that they would even suggest someone involved with the cover up with that Ben whacha-ma-call-it thinga-ma-jig could be SoS and then mysteriously be outmaneuvered by the big meany progressive lefty senators and then—WHOOPSIE DAISY!!! She is the next SoS. Just like they did with Kagan and Sotomayor—they never even asked the real questions.
