Hamas Fumes: Israel ‘Opened the Gates of Hell’ After Killing Top Chief During Anti-Militant Airstrikes

Palestinian witnesses say Israeli airstrikes have hit a series of targets across Gaza City, shortly after the assassination of the top Hamas commander. According to the Israeli military, the targeted killing of Ahmed Jabari is part of a reboot of the nation’s policy of assassinating Palestinian militant leaders.

Military spokeswoman Lt. Col. Avital Leibovitch confirmed that the attack is the “start of a broader operation.” The event is significant, as Jabari is the most senior Hamas official to be killed since an Israeli invasion of Gaza took place four years ago. For quite some time, the militant leader has been on Israel’s most-wanted list, as he was blamed for numerous past attacks.

Fifty-two-year-old Jaabari previously spent 13 years in Israeli jail for terrorist activity. As head of Hamas’ military wing, all regional Hamas commanders in Gaza answered to him. He was a key player involved in the negotiations over the release of kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit who was held in Gaza for five years and appeared next to Shalit on the day he was released and transferred to Egyptian, and later Israeli hands.

Responding to the airstrikes, Hamas put out a statement claiming that the assassinationΒ ”has opened the gates of hell” (watch video of the killing).

Witnesses said Jabari was traveling in a vehicle in Gaza City when the car exploded. Crowds of people and security personnel rushed to the scene of the strike, trying to put out the fire that had engulfed the car and left it a charred shell.

Hamas police cordoned off the area around a hospital where at least one body from the strike was taken. It was draped in a white sheet, with a burned leg poking out. Hamas said another man was killed in the airstrike. Schools in southern Israel and Gaza will remain closed on Thursday, as violence continues.

Gaza sources tell Arab Affairs Analyst Ehud Yaari reports that Jaabari’s colleagues had been warning him in recent days to lay low due to the expectation Israel was planning to renew its policy of “targeted killings.”

Israel Channel 2 Correspondent Udi Segal said his sources told him that earlier in the day, Likud Minister Benny Begin was sent on an interview with Israel Radio to report that this week’s violent exchange between Gaza and Israel had ended. This, the sources said, was an intentional ploy to lull Hamas to drop its guard, which apparently worked.

Hamas security officials say two Hamas training facilities were among the targets in the Wednesday afternoon bombings. Plumes of smoke are rising in the air, and people are running in panic through the streets as militants angrily fire their weapons in the air.

The Israeli mission is said to be a response that was launched after days of heavy rocket fire from Gaza.Β Interior Minister Eli Yishai told Israel Channel 2 that more than 100 rockets had been launched into Israel this week and that the nation had lost its ability to prevent them from entering. This operations is clearly a reaction to that fact — one that has been given no definitive timeframe, although one Israel Radio correspondent claims it could last between a few days and one week.

On Wednesday afternoon, IDF’s official spokespeople took to Twitter, where a dire warning was issued to Hamas: “We recommend that no Hamas operatives, whether low level or senior leaders, show their faces above ground in the days ahead.”

As for the Jabari killing, military officials, speaking on condition of anonymity under army regulations, said he was identified by “precise intelligence” gathered over several months.

Advocates say targeted killings are an effective deterrent without the complications associated with a ground operation, chiefly civilian and Israeli troop casualties. Proponents argue they also prevent future attacks by removing their masterminds.

Critics say they invite retaliation by militants and encourage them to try to assassinate Israeli leaders. They complain that the strikes amount to extrajudicial killings.

During a wave of suicide bombings against Israel a decade ago, the country employed the tactic to eliminate the upper echelon of Hamas leadership.

Israeli aircraft have previously assassinated the previous commander of Hamas’ military wing, Salah Shehadeh, the movement’s spiritual leader, Sheik Ahmed Yassin, his successor, Abdel Aziz Rantisi, and dozens of other senior Hamas military commanders.

The practice set off a continuous wave of criticism from rights groups and foreign governments, particularly the strike that killed Shehadeh β€” a one-ton bomb that killed 14 other people, most of them children.

Israel has said that it is willing, if needed, to use ground troops to stop violence coming from Gaza. Bloomberg has more:

Israel carried out a series of air strikes in theΒ Gaza StripΒ today, killing the leader of Hamas’s militant wing, and said it was ready to use ground troops if needed to end attacks on its citizens.

The Israeli army said it called up reserves in advance of any possible infantry assault. It said it targeted Ahmed al- Jabari in a β€œsurgical strike” and identified him as a β€œsenior Hamas operative who served in the upper echelon of the Hamas command and was directly responsible for executing terror attacks,” according to an e-mailed statement.

Israeli Defense MinisterΒ Ehud Barak, who directed Israel’s 2008 ground invasion of the Gaza Strip, yesterday said he was considering new measures to stop increased missile attacks from the Hamas-ruled territory. The violence sentΒ oil pricesΒ higher.

Israel Channel 2 has also reported that incoming rockets were potentially fired toward the area of Beer Sheba (sirens were heard there as well). The IDF Twitter account reports, “Initial reports indicate that the Iron Dome has intercepted a number of rockets above a major Israeli city.”

Not RIP! RIH, Jabari! (Hint: first two letters stand for “roast in…”)

After 911 occurred, one prominent American Church leader said Bin Laden’s judgment would be “swift and sure”. Jabari’s will be no less swift or sure!

You are entitled via the first amendment to your personal opinion
However, Judgment is reserved to our Father, and not any one of us. Although you are concerned about this individual because he is associated with Hamas, you have no idea of the entire of his comings and goings and doings, neither do I. Therefore we must leave judgement to those powers who know those facts.

If you are a senior official of the faction who chooses to take violent action against the State of Israel, you should expect them to retaliate. The State of Israel is not simply going to roll over and play dead while you pound them with rocket fire.
The worst part of this whole ordeal is that the weapons which Hamas is using to pound Israel, might well be the weapons which were intercepted on their way to the Syrian rebels, a deal which the Americans had brokered from Benghazi. Look into the ship Lutfallah II which was captured in Lebanon, the headquarters of Hezbollah.

If you want to see how God will intervene on behalf of Israel as Israel is attacked by her enemies, you can go to Joel Rosenberg’s blog.

God gave the Land of Israel to the Jewish people — and God was the One who brought them back to their Land. They will never be displaced again. The Jewish people will be in control of Israel (albeit under attack) when Jesus returns to earth. See the fourteenth chapter of Zechariah for a description of this event.

Assassination is merely the means of attacking. One could argue that the way we took out Bin Laden was an assassination. All assassination means is that a military operation was performed with the explicit purpose of killing a specific individual. Had this man been killed incidentally during an armed conflict it wouldn’t be an assassination. But since the whole purpose of the operation was to kill this man it is an assassination. I see nothing negative or wrong about that.

@tzion…Assasination infers something other than just targeting and killing an enemy combatant.. Whereas you may be technically correct, there is world wide anti-Israel propoganda value to this event being termed an assasination. It is the same when Israel is always seen as the billigerent in any military event. Rarely is it said…”Israel retaliates”…it is usually said, “Israel attacks”.

9/11 explained using the same logic? Maybe you’d like to try because from where I’m standing all I see is an attack whose purpose isn’t to kill a specific individual or individuals who are responsible for committing terrible crimes. Rather, 9/11 was an attack designed to kill as many people as possible while terrorizing an entire nation. The only people who need fear Israeli attacks are those who make it their business to try and bring about the death of Israelis.

Why are you guys squabbling over Israel? Only those who accept Christ will inherit that blessed land in the future. God reestablished Israel to fulfill prophesy and prepare a place for “his” children.
Galatians 3– v 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Only the promised heirs will inherit Israel, that means only those that accepts Christ. The physical bloodlines of Abraham are obsolete according to the Apostle Paul. Read your bible and quit squabbling about Israel.

This has always been one of those parts of the Bible that has confused me. I’ve wondered if Isreal just constitutes those that except Christ or what.

      Romans 11:25
“I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.”

Is this just talking about Jews? The Israel we know today wasn’t established until like 1949 or something. So this is an issue I’m still not sure on. I know what we were all taught in Sunday school and I support Israel, but I do have questions.

@MILMOM—- Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. Only those that accept Christ will be grafted back in again. John 15 v1.β€œI am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful.
Romans 11 v 23 And if they do not persist in unbelief (the Jews) they will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
In the beginning of this chapter Paul makes it clear that only a remnant will be saved, but only those that accept Christ.
Those that accept Christ are spiritual Jews to God. Thus we who are servants of Christ are the Promised seed of Abraham. Physical bloodlines are obsolete.

Um Jerk, you might want to read your history (and yes I said read not reread since you clearly haven’t read it yet). In 1948, the Arab armies of Egypt, Transjordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq all launched unprovoked attacks against the newly declared state of Israel, which proceeded to defend itself capturing territory in the process. A ceasefire was eventually agreed upon but no peace treaty was ever signed.

In summary, the Arabs declared war by attacking a nation that militarily weak and geographically tiny. After all, how could a country which had just come into existence have have committed an act of war against a country it didn’t, and has yet to, share a border with (i.e. Iraq)?

TZion, you had better pick the point in “American” history, where Truman was warned about giving his support to what would become a new nation, Israel. You had better read and re-read the warnings. Sadly, he did not heed those warnings. He chose, for politically selfish reasons, not to heed those warnings. His self-interests were elevated above the nations interests. Today, we see that those warnings were valid, correct. Today, America is paying the price of his quest for power.

And, to the less than educated making the point about Nazi alliances. You had better read the truth, put out there by those who suffered… the real victims of the Jewish Holocaust… they describe the alliance of Zionism with Nazism, Eichmann, and Hitler. Here’s their story:

Your source seems rather….misleading. Take this excerpt fro example:
President Roosevelt convened the Evian conference July 6-15 1938, to deal with the Jewish refugee problem. The Jewish Agency delegation headed by Golda Meir (Meirson) ignored a German offer to allow Jews to emigrate to other countries for $250 a head, and the Zionists made no effort to influence the United States and the 32 other countries attending the conference to allow immigration of German and Austrian Jews.

First point: Roosevelt form this conference for one simple reason and that was because he wanted to be seen as doing something. The conference accomplished absolutely nothing, changed nothing, and their solution was form yet another conference or committee to resolve the problem they had been asked to solve. In short, it was a way of doing nothing.

Second: $250 a head isn’t an offer, its an insult. That would add up to over $1.5 billion dollars to save all the Jews of Europe by the war’s end. Meanwhile, Germany would end u[ bringing more Jews under its reach through war. This was extortion, blackmail, and hostage taking.

Third: The majority of Jews that perished in the Holocaust were from Eastern Europe. American immigration policy was already favorable to Germans and Austrians (my own grandparents are German refugees). 60% of German Jews had left Germany early on (though not all went far enough). Their main concern was whether these refugees were truly safe as minorities.

Hey Jerk! Are you stupid enough to believe Isreal started in 1948 ? The Jewish people are one the oldest cultures on the planet. The cultures that took “thier” land makes up the confused hodge podge we now call the middle east. The British could be blamed for thier return to “THIER” land but again sounds to me you’ve got a loosing argument with God Almighty………..good luck with that dumba$$!

To the jerk. You so very aptly named yourself. Have you ever picked up a history book, that is one that is truthful and not filled with some whacky doodle nonsense and bovine excrement? Fact: Israel has been the Biblical home of the Jewish people for a loooooong time. A really long time. A really, really long time. 1948 was a reaffirmation of reality. Get over it. Israel isn’t going away unless all Israeli Jews go away. They have no where to go. Therefore, they have no options. It is either defend Israel, or die. Very simple. Very clear. The world will turn its back on the Jewish people again. The only and last safe place on the planet to be Jewish will be Israel. I am a Christian, and I stand with Israel.

Hamas, you poke a peaceful giant enough, it will eventually smack the crap out of you.
Send enough β€˜accidental’ bombs into Israel; what would you expect to happen….a great big hug?
You need to realize that we (US) will remember you started this confrontation. And Israel is so far advanced in the protection of their sovereign territory; it was able to target a singular target. They are not responding in anger, just protecting their land and citizens.
Now think about how if you continue to kick that giant, it will not end well for you people with your sticks and rocks.
PS Bozos: the 72 virgins you are looking forward to in the next life are actually Catholic nuns sporting rifles, and the usual school rulers to smack knuckles of bratty kids…..sucks to be you….

      I agree with momrules.
Israel is constantly *bomb*arded with missiles sent by people seeking her destruction and
whose intent is to kill as many as possible. Israel is acting in self-defense & they are judged
to be the aggressors. Israel has to do what it must to fight off the attacks. We would do nothing
less if it was happening in our land. WHO, in their right mind would just lay down & accept
destruction, death and annihilation? It’s our instinct to survive, it is NOT our instinct to kill.
Tells you a LOT about Israel’s enemies. Israel has done NOTHING to them except protect herself.
IF they weren’t attacking, they wouldn’t be attacked. It’s as simple as that. And when they cry otherwise, all you have to do is look at the size of Israel in comparison to the Islamic countries.
Of course they wouldn’t INITIATE violence with such a land size. That would be like Rhode Island taking on the USA. Ridiculous.

If you really believe that, then what do you make of this:
      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_Zionism

Here in the US, a religious Jew (or a Jew who was raised in a religious environment) is more likely to support Israel than a non-religious one. There is a very substantial religious population in Israel to the point that the Jewish parts of Jerusalem completely shut down on Yom Kippur (and there are plenty of Jews in Jerusalem who may identify as secular). Jeremiah complaint wasn’t secularism, it was the tendency of many Jews of the time to sin, bring an offering in the Temple as repentance, but have no intention of rectifying their behavior.

2 And I will make of thee a great nation,

4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had
      spoken unto him;

You argue with Israel, you argue with GOD … go to it JERK … I’m sure you’ll be Jerky after hanging out in Hell for a bit. God hasn’t in anyway diminished his promise to Abram. You accuse ME of being selective? Rabbi Abraham Isaac Cook was as religious as any of those Rabbis you cited. The entire Chabad movement, an Ultra-Orthodox denomination, were highly vocal supporters of Zionism. If the movement was as secular as you claim, why was it that the Zionist Congress rejected the offer for part of Uganda to be set aside as a Jewish state? Herzl, a secular Zionist if there ever was one, was all ready to accept it and even argued in favor of it to no avail. If Zionism was as secular as you claim it to be there would be no Israel in the Middle East today. Even the term Zionism itself comes from the Hebrew “tzion”, one of the names for Jerusalem.

You speak as if the moment one supports a political movement they are completely secularized and lose all connection to their religion. The very notion is ridiculous. By the way, you are still not reading your sources I see. Your wiki link leads to a page with the following:
“In the 1920s and 1930s Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook (the first Chief Rabbi of Palestine) and his son Rabbi Zevi Judah Kook saw great religious and traditional value in many of Zionism’s ideals, while rejecting its anti-religious undertones. They taught that Orthodox (Torah) Judaism embraces and mandates Zionism’s positive ideals, such as the ingathering of exiles, and political activity to create and maintain a Jewish political entity in the Land of Israel.”

Your own sources prove that Zionism doesn’t contradict Judaism. Moreover: “The Neturei Karta, an orthodox Haredi religious movement, strongly oppose Zionism and Israel; it considers the latter a racist regime.[22] The movement equates Zionism to Nazism, stating “Apart from the Zionists, the only ones who consistently considered the Jews a race were the Nazis.”[23] Naturei Carta believes that Zionist ideology is totally contrary to traditional Jewish law and beliefs and the teachings of the Holy Torah[24] and that Zionism promotes antisemitism.”

Haredim, for those who don’t know, are the extremists of Judaism, who are known for stoning people not dressed modestly. I’m sure they’re good friends of Jerk here.

@Jerk you were already told…God sent people to save Israel…their king and leaders at the time shunned God and so the exile was allowed…when Israel returned to God, so did their protection and the growth of their nation…it took the Roman Empire after that to take them down again….and as before, the leadership and king were sent people to save Israel and the people were sent the Ultimate Savior…. again they refused and so Israel was scattered for the most recent exile…God started to allow them to return in 1947 based on the work of many Righteous and Godly men like Eisenhower and Churchill and Truman….
Israel has a habit of being with God for centuries and then away/against God for centuries…exiled and then reformed…it is the never ending battle between Good and Evil.. God and Baal…(for those clueless out there.. Baal is the “god” of materialism and worldly concerns – sex, drugs, money, power – some of us just call it Satan, the Devil, Lucifer)

the US government was much the same way as Israel…we started out with God and His teachings and mission for humanity..that lasted about 200 years…then the Progressives came and over the next 100 years turned America into a Godly cesspool of Baal…now we will reap our exile from God’s protection until the Just and the Righteous and the Godly of all faiths RISE UP and RESTORE what God created and ordained..
