Report: Petraeus Agrees to Testify Before Congressional Committees About Libya Attacks

Former CIA Director David Petraeus has agreed to voluntarily testify before the House and Senate intelligence committees about the attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, Fox News reported Wednesday morning.

Petraeus had been slated to testify Thursday before his abrupt resignation last week, after which Acting CIA Director Michael Morell was expected to take his place.

“Mr. Petraeus has indicated his willingness [to testify],” Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) told Politico. “He is eager to come before the committee so we will work out the details.”

No exact schedule has been set for Petraeus’ testimony. He resigned from his post Friday after admitting to an extramarital affair.

The CIA has come under sharp scrutiny in the wake of the Sept. 11 Benghazi terror attacks that killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

Feinstein told CNN on Tuesday she believed Petraeus would ultimately testify. She previously complained about not being informed about the FBI investigation that led to his resignation.

“I believe he will. I think he’s a responsible person and I believe he will come,” Feinstein said.

Some lawmakers had threatened to subpoena Petraeus if he did not come voluntarily.

“I hope we don’t have to subpoena a four-star general and the former CIA director, I hope he would come voluntarily, but if he won’t he will be subpoenaed and none of what has happened [with the resignation] is a defense to a subpoena,” Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said on Fox News.

Now that he will testify, you all say that you won’t believe anything he says anyway and you call him a liar, even before hearing what he has to say. You all have convinced yourself that you know what the truth of Benghazi is, yet when information comes out that doesn’t mesh with what you believe to have happened, you scream Liar, Treason, Impeachment.       To those stating that personal life does not equal professional life? Please! The problems are with the core ethics of the person. Petraues had ethics problems with his family, would you seriously trust him if he told you something to your face? For Pete’s sake, he is a politician (and military service does not insulate one from politics – especially high ranking) that alone should indicate to you he is not to be trusted! People in powerful positions in this day and time do not get there by being “truthful”, “good” and “nice” or even competent people. Politics is a constant war of successors and oneupsmanship. “Et tu, Brute?” anyone?

      That was the key question before….but not right now. He will. With them holding his sex story over his head he may have testified exactly the way the Administration wanted him to before. They took his career away. You don’t think his is a bit bitter about that? His heart IS with the troops and always was. What a bomb shell it would be if he ever said it was BHO that said let them die. BHO can’t win them all like he has and this may be the one he can’t win.

    Considering Petraeus has ALREADY been untruthful, for whatever reason about Benghazi.
    EVEN IF his “untruthfulness” was to protect himself – he still accepted the ” mark” by
    mis-leading and covering for the WH (aka/Obama).

    And, so they say Obama is going to hold a press today and possibly ANSWER some
    questions about this mess…YEAH RIGHT – NOW THERE’S WHERE WE CAN EXPECT

So the man cheated. that is between him, his wife/family, and his god. why people like you make this such an important matter is exactly why the Obama administration is leaking this stuff.       That was my first thought — I hope he has sufficient protection in place. There is a very real possibility you wake up a hear that he’s had a tragic “accident” . That happens alot in Chicago. Dirt naps that is.

      I would urge people to reserve judgement before knowing all the facts regarding Patraeus.
      There really is no telling what went on behind-the-scenes.

    Yes, he will testify, and probably under other, but who among us will believe what he has to say? Not because of the “affair”, but because he is taking a blow for the Obama gang, especially since Hillary refuses to be thrown under the bus…..Nope, I don’t trust any one of them, and certainly not the news stations, and this includes FOX News.
    When you cease to become investigative reporters to find the truth, and only read what comes off the internet, you only become talking heads or parrots that repeat and repeat the same talking points.

      doesn’t each state have to count the ballots by hand in order to certifed the vote? but like stalin said it’s not the voters it’s who counts the votes decides the election. our system has been corrupted and this election was all about protecting obamacare. i believe the election was fixed from the start since obamacare was signed into law. 100% turn out in some districts and not one vote for romney or just a few.

      Does testimony in front of the House and Senate Intel Committees automatically come by being sworn-in; or, will we hear more lies?

      Or, will Petraeus bring down the Obama administration? This could be a pivot point for this young Republic. If Petraeus tells the truth, the public outcry will necessitate Obama’s resignation. He will have served his purpose for the cabal.

    I would hope and pray that when he raises his hand and swears or affirms to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth that he will be a man of honor and do exactly that. What if the report of the Benghazi CIA “safe house” holding two prisoners is true? Then, it is possible that the initial “STAND DOWN” orders following requests to leave that location and go to the firefight could have been based on a need to stay where you are so you can protect the prisoners in hand! However, whatever General (Retired) Petraeus will be met with speculation from one side or the other, claiming he has an agenda and he only said this or that as a way of striking back. When you stir up muddy water it remains muddy water.

    According to this report, after his refusal to meet at the White House with Obama this past week, US Federal Forces loyal to the President stopped General Petraeus vehicle in DuPont Circle in Washington D.C. yesterday (Friday) morning whereupon a short gun battle ensued (Washington D.C. police are reporting this incident as anattempted robbery). General Petraeus was, then, apprehended, brought before Obama and forced to resign in disgrace over his supposedly admitting to an extramarital affair.

      I have to agree with you, he will probably state, due to threats on him and his family, that Obama did not know what happened; and the CIA is to blame and then toss himself onto the sword to spare the admin any blame.

      I hope though he will release the information that shows all the truth, as has been from the State Dept leaks; at the least Obama is guilty of treason for arming the enemies of our nation and he and so many others need to fall and be held accountable for the four dead.

      Question – could Petraeus already have given secret information to the committee members on the QT to ensure that, should he be silenced by Obama, the truth will still come out?

      I have to wonder, even if Obama is found to be neck deep in the matter, if anything will or can be done to oust the Emperor Caligula Obama.
