Leaked: Audio of Mitt Romney Explaining to Donors Why He Lost Election — And Guess What Bill Clinton Told Him

Leaked: Heres the Audio of Mitt Romney Explaining to Donors Why He Lost Election

Just like his infamous “47 percent” remarks, former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney has been under fire for telling his top donors on Wednesday that President Barack Obama won the election because of his “gifts” to minorities, women and young people.

On Thursday, ABC received leaked audio of Romney’s comments. In addition to talking about Obama’s “gifts,” Romney also told donors that former President Bill Clinton called him and told him he thought he was going to win before Hurricane Sandy hit and gave Obama a boost.

Business Insider provides transcripts for the clips:

“It’s a proven political strategy, which is give a bunch of money to a group and, guess what, they’ll vote for you. What I would do if I were a Democrat running four years from now — I’d say dental care ought to be included in Obamacare.”

“What the president did is he gave them two things. One, he gave them a big gift on immigration with the DREAM Act amnesty program, which was obviously very very popular with Hispanic voters, and then number two was Obamacare … For a home earning — let’s say $30,000 a year — free health care, which is worth about $10,000 a year, I mean it’s massive, it’s huge. So this — he did two very popular things for the Hispanic community.”

“I spoke with President Clinton the day before yesterday. He called and spent 30 minutes chatting with me. He said, ‘A week out, I thought you were going to win.’ And he said, ‘But the hurricane happened, and it gave the president a chance to be presidential, and to look bipartisan. And you know, he got a little more momentum.’ And of course he also said that when he was watching Ann speak at the Republican convention, he decided he was tempted to join the Republican Party. So he may have just been effusive with generous comments as he chatted. He was very complimentary, by the way, of how well we did with middle-class voters, and he said they were surprised by how strong we were in Ohio and in other states with middle-class voters, they did exceptionally well with minorities, but white, middle-class voters, we really cleaned up with and that caught them by surprise.”

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal called Romney’s remarks “absolutely wrong” and said “we have got to stop dividing American voters.”

Am still so taken back and just sick to my stomach that Governor Romney lost the race. I admire him and Paul Ryan so much for the clean campaign they ran – stuck to the principles and what needed to be done to get this country back on track and just totally heartbroken along with them. Was a tremendous uphill battle with what he was up against plus the fact our side was so divided I had a sickening feeling we would not win AND then the disgusting anti-Mormon factor. Every family should look at the Romney family as a role model. How much better off we would all be if we followed in their footsteps. So dreading the next four years and the horror we are going to live.

NEVERENDING, I agree. It is a sad day in America when a former president would admit that bribery will ensure a win in a presidential election. It is not something to be proud of and only shows how low the progressives will stoop to win. I believe that progressive principals lie within both parties and that an honest and moral man has no chance of winning.

He was our best candidate but I hope Republicans learned to shut up about abortion as it really hurts them. Mitt was right about the 47% (although not accurate figures & didn’t mean people on ss or military) & also right about the freebies. Unfortunately politicians can’t tell the truth anymore & Jindal was rather nasty. I understand he is a politician but although Rubio said he disagreed with Mitt, he went on & complimented Mitt about the race he ran. Although Gutfeld said he agreed with Mitt, Dana Perino went off on Romney telling him to leave & they had to bleep her because she was also cussing him. Since Beckel said SOB, some thought they were just late in bleeping but it appears she did. I don’t like Dana so much.

I suspect this is the last election this nation will ever see. Obama can run for re-election again and again by issuing an executive order removing term limits. Or he can have Mooshell run for prez, and he could be vice-prez. Then his kids can run, etc., etc. There will be no end to this nightmare. Between outright cheating, and freebies for the unemployed and unions, any “election” will just be a joke. The USA is dead. Welcome to the United Socialist States of America.

      @Simonne,

“He was our best candidate but I hope Republicans learned to shut up about abortion as it really hurts them…Unfortunately politicians can’t tell the truth anymore”

And you blame them…? Amazing, simply amazing.

The electorate is the problem. We get the leaders we deserve. We took the commandements which are good (Romans 7) & turned them on their head. We call the destruction of the most innocent lives amongst us “choice”. We call anything marriage (in spite of the Creator’s definition – Genesis 2, Matthew 19:4-6). We call evil “good” and good “evil (Isahiah 5:20).

The road to hell isn’t paved w/ good intentions, it is paved w/ comprimise with evil which left unrepented results in a denial of truth, and ultimately, destruction. The prophets did well to warn this generation as did Christ Himself. Question is, will they listen?

Luke 18:7-8 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

The GOP still doesn’t understand why they lost, but I will tell you. Romney lost the single women vote because of the GOP’s stance on abortion and the crazy lunatic Republicans that don’t believe a woman has the right to an abortion even in the case of rape. Combine that with the anti-gay marriage stance and the GOP is on the wrong side of two social issues that the rest of the country now accepts. Also, the GOP still doesn’t want to raise taxes on the rich even though most rich people voted for Democrats. We all know that raising taxes on the rich won’t really generate that much revenue, but it makes you look like complete jerks for supporting rich people that aren’t even going to vote for you anyway. If the GOP keeps these two losing positions of anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage and keeps looking like the old rich white guy party, there will never be another GOP president ever again.

Yes God forbid our leaders tell the truth, Gov. Jindal. What Romney said was exactly right. We the people voted for “free” stuff and as a Hispanic, I am embarrassed about it. If we don’t figure out a way to assimilate Blacks and Hispanics, we are doomed. Though somewhere, perhaps in a comment on this site, I read that if more whites voted Conservative then only Conservatives would win. That’s great except too many of y’ll have that white guilt that won’t let you vote for white guys no matter what qualifications they have. We have a problem on all sides…

You are not a Lib, that much is evident from your post. You’re a Libertarian, and I respect that.

What you are missing, however, is the crux of the article. Victory was impossible for anyone but Obama. The proletariat do not want freedom any more, they want free stuff. Victory goes to he who promises the most free stuff any more, and to he who lies the most about their foes.

We have voted ourselves bread (food stamps) and circuses (Obama Phones). Welcome to Rome version 2.0; he who is your sugar daddy shall get the vote.

All our harping about freedom and principle mean nothing at this point. Our best option is to wait for the collapse and try again after we clean the system out.

Stop praising Romney the redistributionist SS and Medicare loving liberal. He managed to lose to the worst President in history, running on the worst record in history. Obama has managed to keep unemployment extremely high, standard of living extremely low, gas and food prices very high, while also telling Russia about his post-election flexibility, and screwing up on Benghazi… etc, etc, etc. And somehow Romney still managed to get pummeled by this doofus. That is what happens when you try to out-Democrat the Democrats. Next time the Repubs need to elect someone who can ignite the Tea Party of 2010 by supporting capitalism and true conservatism… not one who kowtows to old people in Florida and panders to minorities and poor people. Paul Ryan, by the way, is just as bad as Romney. Nobody wants to hear stories of his grandma and fetus nicknames anymore.

You are right about freedom losing out to the handouts.
The only difference i see though is it happened in the primaries.

The media blacked out liberty (Ron Paul) and the primary went with the same establishment guy (some fraud) that has been tried over and over again.

Just watch the RNC rule changes.

The man that was forced on us never would have made much of a change.
All I heard during the debates was who could manage the programs the best.
Not once was the federal reserve mentioned in two “economic” debates.

The constitution was another Important thing that could have been given some recognition.

      @ Waking Sheep

I commend you for your faith on this matter. I truly wish we had more with your understanding around.

Freedom is a powerful calling, but basic survival is more powerful the foe. The Democrappies have created a scenario by which massive droves of people are dependent on their graft for basic survival needs. That dole is only getting bigger. Just the same, they have created the illusions of necessity being provided by the Democrats that cannot be overcome by the Republicans, which illusions are used to fool parties that may not need to rely on the government for sustenance. The third classification is those that are outright bribed in with promises of power or wealth or ‘rights’ or ‘justice’ that are not guaranteed by the constitution and would have been abhorrent to our ancestry.

You have faith in freedom, just the same as I do. The problem is nightmarish: we face a hydra, a multi-headed monster that spews platitudes, bribes people, and makes dependent those it can suborn, thereby guaranteeing no man can begin reducing the monster. We need a modern-day Heracles to begin unscrewing this problem, and unfortunately the call has to go beyond mere freedoms or we will never win again.

Rush said it best: you can’t win against Santa Claus. If you have a way to beat out Saint Nick, I would gladly entertain it.

No one wants clean, decent, respectable people in our White House anymore. They seem to want just the opposite and that’s what we’ve got, again for another four years, Unless the Lord comes first to save the very few who’ll make it.
Mitt was exactly right about the 47% which is more like 50% who only want all the freebies they can lay their hot little hands on and they’re willing to lie, cheat & steal to get all they can get for free, even selling their souls and bodies. God Help US!
I’ll never get that woman in Fla. out of my mind in 2008 who wanted obama money, cause obama was going to pay her bills, etc. Then to top that, the gal a few months ago who screamed out about the free obama cell phones, These two are more common than we’d guess. They are the example of the 50% who want something for nothing but give undying loyalty to the Democrat party. And who was it who said, “putting them back in chains?” It’s the Democratic party wants them in chains so they will continue to be obedient.

No, you’re evil because you voted for Obama instead of Ron Paul or Gary Johnson like you guys said you would. Instead you felt bitter about how the GOP treated you and decided to be THE TRAITOR OF THERMOPLYAE.

I’m not being sarcastic. I hate sarcasm. It’s never funny and it’s just short of lying.

4 years of Romney would have given this country more time and possibly even a comeback for LIBERTY! In regards to the war policies…those were inevitable considering the state of the world. If I might quote UGLY from an old Eastwood movie, “If you’re gonna shoot, shoot, don’t talk.”

Libertarians voted for Obama. They voted for America to die. That was their intention.

The Fool thinks himself a Wiseguy
The Thief thinks himself a Rich man
The Rapist thinks himself a Lover
The Traitor thinks himself a Patriot
The Wolf thinks himself a Shepherd
The Devil thinks himself an Angel

Ordo Ab Chao = Latin for = Order from (or out of) Chaos

      Pretty much….Divide and Conquer.

When God does it, he saves & creates. When Man does it, he damns & destroys.

Well said Neverending. Many of us patriots feel the same. The anti Mormon factor was unfortunate as it would make no difference in Romneys case. He’s a good man and has a great family. I don’t agree with Jindal either; maybe Romney was wrong is saying ‘gift’ but he’s not wrong in that being what happened. That’s exactly what happened. Obama bought the election with “gifts” at the taxpayers expense, period.

Telling the truth and pointing out the obvious now makes one a “racist” in the “chosen people” controlled Marxist Media. The US let in a bunch of free loaders from 3rd world nations over the past 20 years. It all started with the “chosen person” sponsored Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. Congress decided to flood this country with 3rd world, unskilled immigrants. This is now what you have as a result. Unskilled 3rd world immigrants who want freebies.

Mitt talked about the 47%, but he really needed to worry about the 1% or “chosen people” who control the media and Hollywood and continue to dog him even after the election. Notice how the “chosen people” never mentioned in the foreign policy debate how Obama doesn’t even attend the daily briefings. That’s another example of how they pick and choose what to report on, not to provide the news, but to influence public opinion. The Founding Fathers never anticipated a small group of “chosen people” getting together and taking over our media and entertainment industries and then using those industries for leftist propaganda to the masses.

Romney and Ryan both lied their asses off during the campaign. They misrepresented everything to fit their own conservative agenda. The only time Romney made any progress is when he came out rephrasing the same things that Obama was saying but taking credit himself. Romney is a pitiful loser and we are much better of without him.

I must be right of right of right. because I don’t agree that Mitt Romney was the best candidate in the field during the primary. I would venture to say he was one of the worst candidates in the primary like Huntsman and Pawlenty. I agree with Glenn Beck that Michele Bachmann was the best one in the field and when she left Rick Santorum was a good alternative. But I supported Mitt the last month and a half of his campaign. But only to beat Obama. I almost voted Virgil Goode, but he didn’t even make the ballot 9n my state and it would require me writing him in, but I was voting Romney.

If only we had term limits, we’d get rid of these lazy, money-grabbers and make them get a legitimate job. We are at a turning point for the future of our nation. @ Ohiorifleman,

I agree with you…right up to your quote “you can’t win against Santa Claus”. Where does Santa get the money to make all those toys for the children…that’s right, Mom and Dad !! Short of revolution, here are a couple solutions to the problem. 1. Stop paying our taxes to the Treasury. Still pay them, but, set up a private escrow account and pay our taxes into. Escrow monies could only be used to fight government corruption or fight imprisonment for anyone sending his taxes to escrow instead of the treasury department. Option 2. States Secede. If the Federal Gober’ment wants to walk away from our founding principles, States have the obligation and duty to Secede. How long would you remain a business partner with someone who was embezzling your company? A massive organizational effort will have to happen for either of these ideas to work…it could be done. …rf

After all, why wait two hours in line to vote if it’s gonna be “Romney in a landslide” as almost all of the right wing pundits were saying? I wonder how many people didn’t vote because they heard some one they trusted (Glenn, Rove, Morris etc) say “Romney in a landslide”.

I wonder about that too. When fewer Republicans made the effort to vote in this election than when McCain ran, it just doesn’t make sense. The GOP seemed more motivated this time than last time. The financial crisis took a lot of wind out of our sales in 2008. Either today’s Republicans decided to stick with the devil they know, or many of them thought Romney was going to win anyway so why bother waiting in line to vote. But, if so, they made a stupid mistake. We may not get another chance. The number of people on food stamps is now equivalent to 75% of the people who voted for Obama. What happens when the number reaches 100%? (But don’t call food stamps “gifts” or Democrats will get angry. Food stamps don’t spend themselves, you know. Recipients still have to get off the couch and make the effort to go out and spend them. That’s really hard work. /sarc)

Bill Clinton knows if he wants to keep the only woman in America that will hang with him he better cater a little to the republicans due to Benghazi. If I were Mitt I would take it offensively anything he said about Ann. Bill is not one you want complimenting your wife and saying he was watching her. Bill always goes with the side the women are on and I never would find that surprising. He must have seen the women taking sides with Ann. Use the gut and heart and mind that God gave you….this doesn’t make sense and more than those of us that were on foreign radio websites and the Benghazi murders were taking place….we get truth in live time from foreign radio but what comes on from news on every radio station including conservative radio? News on the hour and every 1/2 are AP reporters first saying that the goofball preacher mutton chops terry (whatever his name is) was at fault and he was going to jail. Then it was about a video….we are screwed if we can’t even listen to conserv radio programs without being brainwashed by the AP news that states they are fox broadcasters. All of us on that afternoon and night KNEW this all didn’t make sense…..we knew someone was lieing….but we had to sit back and wait for who we have allowed to be “the powers that be”. Just like this article something doesn’t smell right and our GUTS & HEARTS & MINDS are telling us “UHH NO SOMETHING IS WRONG HERE.” The storm didn’t make anyone look more presidential…if the people weren’t paying attention to the news before then why all of a sudden would they be paying attention days after the hurricane when the photo opportunities were taken by this admin. The area that was destroyed would have voted Obama anyway…..no this is cover up for all the people bussed into to areas they didn’t live to vote…..machines set up by union workers pissed about wisconsin…dead people voting…etc etc etc…no one in our medi

Something neither the Republicans or the Democrats are going to tell you but Reince Priebus DID partially acknowledge. But, not the whole story. The Republican Party died 30 years ago because of a lawsuit they lost in NJ. The stupid Republicans then signed a Consent Decree that will NOT allow them to challenge any vote fraud in certain minority districts. Then, the same judge, Carter appointed comes back from retirement each year to resign the decree. The GOP tried to get the decree amended in 2010 but the judge, appointed by 0 would not allow. THE DEMOCRATS HAVE HAD 30 YEARS to perfect how the steal elections because of this decree. See the full story at
http://www.fellowshipoftheminds.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/why-the-gop-wil-not-do-anything-about-vote-fraud/ There needs to be a new party formed to get out from under this decree. GOP will NEVER win another election EVER.

    also http://www.fellowshipoftheminds.wordpress.com/2010/05/24/obama-a-sleeper-agent-for-world-communism/

    and http://www.fellowshipoftheminds.wordpress.com/2010/05/18/day-5-of-obama-trial/

The country is lost unless a new party is formed or this consent decree is removed from the GOP.
That is why SOME people that were aware of this decree KNEW 0 would win. There is no way to defeat the massive fraud under the terms of this decree and it also explains the tactics of the open boarders. The government is being run by Russian and Islamic operatives. ALL are being either blackmailed, threatened or intimidat

Hey guys, do me a favor. In the run-up to the 2016 election, PLEASE encourage the Republican candidate to keep on talking about how only lazy people and darkies support the Democrat. Pretty please. Then I’ll know that 2016 will be another good year for Dems! Cons just lost the Presidential election, two seats in the Senate, and seven seats in the House; 2016 here we come!

Governor Romney’s “47%” statement was a statement of fact. His comment on Obama giving “gifts” for votes is a fact. Then moments before the Election, Obama decides to finally look Presidential instead of a cartoon character after the aftermath of Sandy.

The truth is supposed to hurt, that’s the bloody point. The truth makes you aware of what you are doing wrong so it can be fixed. Instead, the “gimme gimme gimme” portion of America decides it’s offended and re-elect the Jack @$$ – In – Chief.

Add your damned comments. I’m to pizzed off to write anymore. I want my America back!

Buy more guns!!! That is, if you have enough cash, after the MAN steals it to give to the poor, down trodden. You know, the ones with a flat screen in every room, an Escalade in the drive, and cell phones for every overweight member of the house. We know who they are. So, how do we get rid of them.

It seems most people voted with their lady parts this election. Me? I vote for love of country.

Truthfully, the count is still not certified. Word on the down-low is that the GOP is looking into ALL of the claims. Perhaps we can get a Constitutional Miracle by Dec. 17th.

All you have to do, is take a walk down main street USA, and see that Mitt is telling the truth.Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise, that he lost. Now he can actually be honest. To all the leaches out there. I hope you’re proud of the country that you’re leaving for your kids. Not that they care. Why do I waste my time on here? The losers I’m trying to reach, can’t read anyway.

Crap, there won’t be enough left for the government to buy itself a pizza in four years! The rate they chuck money down a hole would make a Vegas casino boss swoon. If we’re only 20 trillion in the hole by the time the Fairy God President is done with this country, it will be an astonishing success.

And Conservatives don’t understand that when your “down with dark people, women and gays” ideology loses you over 90% of the black vote, two thirds of the Hispanic and young vote, and women by 12 points, doubling down on it isn’t so smart.

That must be it. I couldn’t figure out what he was doing, because his comments won’t go over well with potential 2016 Republican voters. It makes sense, though if he wants to be governor of Louisiana forever, rather than make a run for the presidency.

Chris Christie’s behavior at the convention (the self-serving speech) and his gushing over Obama post-hurricane have put an end to any hopes he had for running for the presidency as a republican. To me, it wasn’t just gaucheness, but a prolonged, petulant fit he threw because Romney had disappointed him in some way (no vp bid? ). For that and other reasons (e.g., no foreign policy experience, abrasive persona), I think he will not have a shot the next Republican candidacy.

Good luck to Christie if he decides to try for a run by switching parties. Democrats do have their fitness obsession, and the obese are one of the few remaining groups they allow themseves to publicly harrass.

The Clintons had their chance to atone for all of their sins and go down as at least respectable… Their chances of any sort of political future went down the drain with Obama’s failures. So long Hillary, we won’t vote for an old hag! You’re ugly now, and I don’t even want to imagine you 4 years from now.

Watch a little nip and tuck of the next three years and she will look presidential. People in NH think of here 1st and Christie second. The women of this country want her no matter how bad she is .. The libs have washed their sins of racism by electing Obama the first time, and got his free stuff the second time, but can’t wait to have Hillary president. Hillary being president is the ultimate in breaking the glass ceiling.
