‘McCarthyism’ and ‘Lies’: Benghazi Congressional Hearing Devolves Into Insults

Today, at a House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing on “Benghazi and Beyond,” it wasn’t just hypothetical explosions that were on the menu. More than a few tempers exploded as well. Fox News reports:

Tempers boiled over as the House Foreign Affairs Committee held a hearing with several analysts, though none would be considered key figures in the administration’s Benghazi attack response. A few officials with inside knowledge were briefing select lawmakers behind closed doors Thursday; and in a win for lawmakers, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., announced that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will testify next month.

But the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing swiftly became a venue for lawmakers to voice their frustrations and lob accusations at the administration. Lawmakers sparred early and often, with Democrats accusing Republicans of turning a tragedy into a “political football” and Republicans accusing the administration of hiding the truth.

“This administration has lied to the American people about this tragedy,” Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., said. “The arrogance and dishonesty in all of this is breathtaking. Let’s not stonewall this issue and cover up mistakes, which seems to be what is going on today.”

It only got worse from there. Rohrabacker’s accusations prompted counter-attacks claiming “McCarthyism” on the part of Republicans. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) took special issue with Rohrabacker’s attacks on Susan Rice (who Rohrabacker called “the actual vehicle used to misinform the American people during this crisis.”). Sherman attacked Rohrabacher for being “unfair” to Rice. Rohrabacker shot back:

“We have four of our personnel dead, and it is not a McCarthy-era tactic to demand accountability and to demand that American people are not misinformed about it to the point that they don’t know what the threat is.”

The hearing really escalated when Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio) joined in with Rohrabacker in accusing the Obama administration of lying. Democrats started to respond with attacks of their own – this time on Republicans for cutting spending, and on former President George W. Bush. NBC News reports:

Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY) unloaded, first sarcastically: “Let’s just hang the guilty parties.”

“The stench of hypocrisy that hangs over this city today emanates from this room,” Ackerman said.Β ”I’ve listened to my colleagues talk about the President of the United States and others in the administration using [the] terms ‘deliberate’, ‘lies’, ‘unmitigated gall’, ‘malfeasance,’ which is malicious and knowing evil-doing, ‘disgust’, ‘coverups’.”

He continued, “If you want to know who is responsible in this town, buy yourself a mirror!”

Ackerman went on to say that Republicans had “the audacity to come here” when the administration requested, for worldwide security, “$440 million more than you guys wanted to provide. And the answer is that you damn didn’t provide it! Β You REDUCED what the administration asked for to protect these people.Β Ask not who the guilty party is, it’s you! It is us. It is thisΒ committee,Β and the things that we insist that we need have to cost money.”

Needless to say, the hearing ended without so much as a drop of resolution, and with far more heat than light having been shed on the issue.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Speaking of priorities one of them was disciplining Ambassador Chris Stevens.

To wit reading between the lines, when Ambassador Chris Steven asked for more security initially they scaled it back before restoring it. To me that reads “don’t ask for more & possibly put us (The Regime) in a poor light”. Well they disciplined Ambassador Stevens real good. They taught him well; he is dead!

Ambassador Chris Steven probably voted Democrat. He was on their side. They chose him form a number of candidates. This is how they take care of one of their own.

These are the same people running health care.

      One dictator for another.
Bush handed Hussein a more stable middle east with ALLIES. And we never got hit again until Hussein came to power. Bush’s “extreme policies and intelligence torture methods” led Hussein to OBL. But where’s the media on giving credit to Bush? Quite the hypocrites themselves and complicit accomplices to the many crimes commited by our President Hussein, quite the modern dictator.

And people wonder why 675,000+ Americans have signed petitions to secede from the country. The left has no intention to discover the truth about the Benghazi cover-up. Obama openly has broken the federal law in April & October that requires the President to provide in advance the number and types of regulations he seeks to implement. Obama have not done that twice in a row. It looks like nothing is going to change in the next four years so Washington is going to spend us off a cliff and the economy will collapse when other countries stop buying our debt. The building is on fire & the idiots in Washington are fighting over who used up all the staples. Our enemies are getting strong, we are getting weaker, & the Traitor in Chief wants to disarm the American public, get rid of our nukes, & degrade our military.

I was outraged that there were 4,300 dead. Harry Reid is to blame. He encouraged the enemy to stand & fight when he said “the war is lost.” There would have been fewer if he hadn’t said that.

I believe that a conspiracy can have many fathers. The conspiracy to blow up the Murrah building in Oklahoma City bombing had jihadi & who knows what other help behind it. Nichols didn’t travel to the Phillipines a few times just to get laid. Also Saddam, your hero, plotted to kill George. H.W. Bush in Kuwait. Further the WMDs are in Syria. You’re spamming – this is at least the fifth instance of repeating your list of US Embassy attacks in these forums, which I am sure you compiled yourself (*snicker* – yeah, right), but you’ve left out an important detail: When was the last time a US Ambassador was killed? Also, what was the administration’s response? Were their actions, or inactions, covered up? You seem to be trying to defend the indefensible. Nixon’s Watergate break-in wasn’t as big a deal as the cover-up was. Considering Benghazi, the damage and seriousness of the incidents, both the attack and the cover-up, is at least an order of magnitude higher.

You are not suppose to ask inopportune questions what actions or inaction were taken or not taken. If you had done so face to face to the troll leader in front of an audience, they harm to the troll would have been incalculable.

Off the top of my head I was wondering why the troll did not provide a link. Are they afraid the several dozen of us might go their & start commenting & thereby ruin “their” forum?

Second thing that came to mind is that the the troll wants us to bow down to them, but they are as vacuous as Jill Kelly.

After reading you questions about action & inactions It hough about the Athens embassy. One the Greeks police are probably all over it. They are taking the security seriously. I don’t believe they didn’t have the money to save American lives! They have the money for everything else, don’t they? Or they print or borrow from China. What an awful thing to say – yea we have money for Obamacare but not to protect our overseas missions. If we really didn’t have enough money to protect them they had no business sending them over there!

When in doubt whip it out.
Bush Bush Bush. Racist. McCarthy-like. Hating women. Yadda yadda yadda.
Funny the Dems have so dumbed down their base they will have to reeducate who Joesph McCarthy was. But then maybe the useful idiots will recognize that Dems are mostly communists.Maybe.

TRIP: Not only is the base ignorant of McCarthy , I bet many don’t have a clue about the history of the French and Russian Revolutions nor the barbarianism of life under Communism in the USSR. ( That’s why Democrats like failing schools and lefty curriculum control .) They probably think Communists are ” nice” people who just want you to share your stuff ! EDUCATE OUR KIDS.

So how did Republicans not approving a certain level of spending result in the Obama administration not using available American resources in the region to rescue four Americans? Why did the Obama administration continue to pull resources from the region despite pleas from the ambassador for more security? The Obama administration had the appropriate assets in the region to react and did nothing. then had the audacity to try to cover it up with a lie. Democrats disgust me.

      Well, it doesn’t.

Look, the Congress has never passed a budget. That means the money budgeted for Security has never decreased since the GOP took over the house.

And, even if the House HAD passed a cut for security, its up to State to decide how to allocate it so everyone is safe. If State didn’t have the money to keep the Benghazi consulate secure, you close the consulate.

It’s still the fault of the Admin, any way you cut it.

Smoke and mirrors. The money they’re talking about was for FY2013, not current ops. Wouldn’t have made a bit of difference in Benghazi or anywhere else.

What a waste of precious air and time. Nothing will come of this, other than sound bites for FOX News and PMS-NBC. There are no statesmen in eother party, but at least the Republicans care about the four forgotten souls murdered in a terrorist attack.

The fraud in chief is arming our enemies so we’re paying for it,with money and blood and this regime is the most corrupt in US history. Will heads roll? Maybe a patsy but Barry will escape unscathed when he should be in prison for his treasonous acts.

PRO: Agree. Someone needs to play these Democrats that video tape of Obama’s Chicago Buddy Bill Ayers visiting the OCCUPY group and announcing with glee that he gets up happy to do each day what he can do ” to destroy capitalism.” Or perhaps provide them a copy of community organizer mentor Saul Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals. Or perhaps give the Democrats some info on the OWS Movement : an international anti-capitalist movement . Connect the dots, Democrats. The Obama Chicago crowd are Marxists / progressives or whatever the hell they call themselves these days … They do like to twist and spin their : like transparent and 99 % ….
