More Info Revealed About ‘Shirtless’ FBI Agent Embroiled in Petraeus Scandal: He’s Also a Terror-Fighting Hero

TAMPA, Fla. (TheBlaze/AP) — The mystery over the so-called “shirtless” FBI operative has finally been solved. On Wednesday night, TheBlaze explored FBI Special Agent Frederick Humphries II’s identity. While he’s currently caught in the middle of the Gen. David Petreaus scandal, Humphries is more widely known for his bravery, as he played a key role in stopping a terrorist attack aimed at blowing up Los Angeles International Airport just as the year 2000 dawned (he also fatally shot a knife-wielding man during a 2010 altercation).

Humphries, 47, was the agent who initially saw the emails the FBI said Petraeus’ biographer and mistress, Paula Broadwell, sent to Tampa socialite Jill Kelley, a woman she apparently saw as a rival for Petraeus’ affections. She also allegedly sent emails to Gen. John Allen, Kelley’s friend and the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan.

Concerned about the emails, Kelley contacted Humphries in June. The two had met at a 2011 FBI Citizens Academy, a program aimed at teaching the public and journalists about what the agency does and how it operates. Kelley was in the class, which Humphries lectured one night about terrorism, according to Natalie Shepherd, a Tampa TV reporter who was there.

Humphries, a former Army captain who worked in military intelligence, thought the emails raised serious concerns because the anonymous author knew the comings and goings of Allen and Petraeus, a former general who had preceded Allen in Afghanistan. His report back to the FBI started the investigation that led to Broadwell and uncovered her affair with Petraeus.

The FBI is reviewing Humphries’ later conduct in this case, a federal law enforcement official said Wednesday. Specifically, the bureau is reviewing a telephone call he made in late October to Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Wash., to voice concern that the bureau was not aggressively pursuing a possible national security breach. Reichert arranged to convey the information to House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia, who checked with the FBI at that time. Cantor was assured the bureau was on top of any possible vulnerability.

Lawrence Berger, the general counsel for the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, said in an interview Wednesday that his client, Humphries, did nothing wrong and should not be disciplined. “He’s committed no misconduct,” Berger said and predicted he would be cleared of any misconduct.

Humphries joined the FBI in 1996 and first came to prominence in 1999 after an Algerian man was arrested by U.S. Customs agents as he tried to enter Washington state from Canada by ferry. Ahmed Ressam had white powder, chemicals and homemade timing devices in the trunk of his car.

Ressam claimed to be a French-speaker from Quebec. According to a 2002 Seattle Times story, Humphries, then the only French-speaker assigned to the FBI’s Seattle office, was asked to question him. As soon as Humphries heard Ressam’s accent and phrasing, he knew he wasn’t from Quebec and told his colleagues to arrest him, the story said. It was later learned Ressam was part of an al-Qaida plot to blow up the Los Angeles airport on New Year’s Eve 1999.

By 2010, Humphries had been assigned to the FBI’s Tampa office and was its liaison to MacDill, home to the military’s Central Command.

On May 19, 2010, 61-year-old Army veteran Ronald J. Bullock, who was camping at the base, got into an altercation with base security.

Officials said Bullock sped off on a motorcycle, but was stopped by other security officers and Humphries as he tried to exit a gate. They said he got off the motorcycle and came at Humphries and the officers while brandishing a knife. Humphries fired, killing Bullock. The shooting was later ruled justified.

One can’t help wonder if at the end of the day what we really need isn’t so much an investigation of the ‘sex rompers’ but that of the investigators themselves….

So to get back to the question at the bottom of the Humphries photo, ‘which one is Fred?’ He’s the ‘dummy’ with the erection….

‘ah I’m with you, thats what made me read it, I know ‘the real hero’s… THEIR DEAD ! ‘this guy is a ‘soft ****’ nuthin’ else, Betray’us is one too, ‘a hero what a joke ‘all that cabbage’ on his coat (Betray’us) he’s only been in 2 ‘invasions’….(‘I dont call them wars), ‘whats with all the decorations? do they get them for sending emails, ‘so much for all the kids ‘in harms way (war zones) what must they be thinking now?? ‘ it can only happen in America’ !!

When did Humphries report back to the FBI? There was certainly every reason to investigate. Broadwell’s interest in selling her book gave her reason to acquire secrets. Then there was Kelly’s financial problems which alone were reason to suspect her of acquiring and selling U.S. secrets. She is going bankrupt to the tune of millions for heaven’s sake. She and Broadwell too should be investigated as spies.
Of course Petraus found evidence incriminating Obama at Benghazi. It is written all over the incident.
Was Benghazi a planned execution of Stevens to prevent blackmail? Obama is reported to have been a member along with Stevens and Rahm Emanuel in Chicago’s Man’s Country gay bath house. Two other members close to Obama were executed mafia style. The answers to that were probably in the (seven page?) journal found and most likely cleansed by CNN before the area was decared safe for the FBI?
Or, was the attack by terrorists or paid mercenaries set up by Democrats as an “October Surprise/hostage release.” Stevens died not of gunshots or explosion, but of smoke inhalation after being taken to the hospital by Libyans. If he had survived to be taken hostage on the emotion laden 9-11 then released as a result of some miraculous negotiation by the President, it would have assured Obama’s election without any of what may have been voter machine tampering.
Only a fool would believe any position taken by our treasonous administration.

Uhm, apparently the MSM is going off half cocked, gang… Not that it is surprising…

The picture in question was sent as a joke between friends before the official work began.

Gen Allen didn’t send or receive 30000 emails… The count included the endless repetition of prior emails that spool up.

And all of it remains a weak, even as asexual scandal goes, smokescreen for BENGHAZI

Sounds like Humphries is a good agent who does not mindlessly follow all FBI protocol and who did a stupid act with the shirtless pic. Hope he survives with his career somewhat intact.

  I agree, but now it’s coming out that the “shirtless photo” was sent well before he started the investigation. It was a picture of him with a couple of dummies while he was at the training range, sent as a joke. The MSM is trying to smear and discredit anyone associated with this story just so it keeps the mud off their precious Barry. IMO this guy is the ONLY one in the whole bunch that’s totally innocent of any wrong doing and he was just doing his job and doing it well I might add.

Why is no one investigating these women as spies? It would certainly not be the first time our enemies have used women to infiltrate and spy on our country. There is no limit or record of pillow talk afer all.
And to “not” inform Obama (if he didn’t) opened the President up to revealing all kinds of secrets to Petraus and Allen, etc. who might then reveal the informaton to female spies.
PRAY and DEMAND answers.
