Leaked Script for Matt Damon’s Anti-Fracking Movie Confirms ‘Crazy Plot Twist’ Rumors
The makers of “FrackNation” — the pro-fracking documentary that’s a response to what the filmmakers believe is misinformation spread by other documentaries, like Josh Fox’s “Gasland” — have been calling out the position of another film being made about the process that extracts natural gas from shale rock.
Director of “FrackNation” Phelim McAleer, wrote in a guest post for TheBlaze last month the film “Promise Land,” written by actors Matt Damon and Jon Krasinski who also appear in it, portrays “oil and gas companies [as] evil and [...] farmers who allow fracking on their land [as] fools.” The writers believe ”Promise Land” takes a balanced look at fracking and how it impacts the energy industry and farmers, many of whom are selling fracking rights on their land to companies.
Now, “FrackNation” has obtained the script from “Promise Land,” which they say on Facebook confirms the “crazy plot twist–where the environmentalist turns out to be working for the natural gas company.” Specifically, “FrackNation” calls attention to the segment of the script pictured below:

(Image: FrackNation/Facebook)
“Global,” referred to in the portion in the script above, is a competing fossil fuel industry. Dustin, played by Krazinski as a local, leads the town against fracking activity for environmental reasons. It is later revealed he was embedded by this other industry as Steve (played by Damon) points out above. This twist, the FrackNation team believes, is an effort to discredit environmentalists.
“What this script shows, besides that Matt Damon doesn’t know his facts about hydraulic fracturing, is how little Hollywood thinks of America,” McAleer said in a statement. “It’s a misrepresentation of life in rural America and a misrepresentation of the hearts and minds of these citizens.”
In a phone interview with TheBlaze, McAleer explained FrackNation obtained the script from someone involved with the film who found this piece of information important to share. Overall, he said it is well-written, the characters are complex, and it’s entertaining. Therein lies the problem.
“Most Americans don’t know anything about fracking. The first they could hear about it is in this movie,” McAleer said explaining that he thinks many opinions are formed through movies. “It’s an exciting [script], and that’s what will make it so effective.”
“This is not a clash between local communities and big oil. It’s a clash between local communities, big environmentalists and big Hollywood,” McAleer continued.
McAleer has previously pointed out New Image Abu Dhabi, which is owned by United Arab Emirates, financed the film. He wrote in a New York Post article last month that this area could lose trillions in oil if fracking for natural gas became more widespread in the United States.
Previously, the script had allegedly undergone a re-write due to a water contamination claims that were later debunked by the EPA. McAleer also said he considers Damon an anti-fracking activist, given that he supports the New York Working Families Party, which advocates against fracking. In this video a couple years ago, Damon speaks of protecting natural gas from fracking activities in his support of the party:

Posted on November 16, 2012 at 5:25pm2. But I bet you the majority of his like-minded fans don’t know he moonlight’s as THE Spokeman for the highly successful Wall St trading firm TD Ameritrade. It says in some places that Matt gives his earnings from the Wall St mega company to charity as if that makes it all better.
But we all know “two wrongs don’t make a right” and Damon had no reason whatsoever to take the gig if it didn’t benifit him finacially. So maybe he give’s a portion or write’s the money off to get a tax credit?? Who knows? All I know is when I suddenly hear Matt Damon’s very recognizable, (therfore very bankable) voice come on the TV, I look up and see a commercial for Ameritrade and think to myself, what a fracking sell-out!
His fans needs to know character is not in sink with his image. He is for sale and apparently so are his “values”. Even if he gives all the money to charity, he is still lending his superstar voice to promoting the company and in turn giving them more bisness and more money. If that weren’t the case they wouldn’t pay him to be the spokesman.
So at the very least Damon is guilty of fraud by promoting what to him should be an “evil Wall St trading comp. who deserve to pay for what they did.” So the old addage is still true.

Posted on November 16, 2012 at 5:18pmRemember the story about the US becoming the world’s leading producer of energy by 2020? The article reported this based upon estimates of the growth of energy production and the amount of known reserves (primarily gas and shale oil) being developed now.
Well, if we WERE to do that, we’d become energy independent and no longer beholden to the middle east (reference the story today about our good old “friend” Iraq calling for the middle east to use oil as a weapon against the US). Well, Barry and those that hate the US can’t let that happen, so they will be looking for any way to block fracking and the oil-sands extraction methods. They’ll use their marxist buddies in hollywood and they’ll get the EPA to write all kinds of rules restricting the method even on private land.
The lefties can’t let the US be superior in anything.

Posted on November 16, 2012 at 3:16pmWhat these liberal tools don’t understand is fracking has been around for OVER 30 years. We fracked oil wells offshore in Southern California in the Long Beach Harbor well over 30 years ago without any incident. Fracking uses high pressure to fracture rock formations and inject a porous fluid mixed with small porous beads to maintain the fracture and to allow oil to flow through to be extracted by a submersible oil pump.
If fracking was allowed in Southern California OVER 30 YEARS AGO, why not in Pennsylvania?

Posted on November 16, 2012 at 4:32pmFracking can be perfectly safe or incredibly dangerous – it all depends on what kind of liquid you use. This is an obvious case in which a few strong regulatory laws would solve the problem to everybody’s satisfaction, but people who are fanatically committed to the belief that all government regulation is evil have to pretend that all fracking is safe, when it obviously isn’t.

When 99% of us are sitting in the dark freezing and gasoline is $7 or $8/gallon then maybe, maybe those people will wake up. In other words, when there is no electricity to power their tv’s or game consoles, then maybe they will get it.

The gas isn’t what’s polluting the water, it’s the chemicals used in the fracking process. The industry refuses to even disclose exactly what these chems are, and the Obama administration refuses to force them to.
There is no “war on coal,” I wish there was. And this administration is presently pretty friendly to the natural gas industry. I wish this was not the case.

Before any fracking is started, a casing, consisting of steel and/or cement is installed to insure that the process doesn’t enter the ground water and visa versa. As the need to go deeper arises, more casing is installed. Seriously, turn off CNN, NBC, MSNBC and all the self righteous as they spout their rhetoric. Serious, and I mean serious research is always a smart thing to do. The reason the chemicals used are not disclosed is they have proprietary properties, believe it or not, there are more companies out there that frac other than “Halliburton”, and to have a competitive edge, or to get your piece of the market share, you wouldn’t want the competition to have your recipe. As far as disclosure, you can bet your a@# that the pertinet Alphabet agency knows exactly what goes in the ground. I’ve worked in the offshore oil industry 20+ years, the big evil oil companies are scrutinized harder than any other US industry. The process from exploration to production of a gas / oil well is complex and way too complicated for me to explain to you. But as others have stated, you need to read up on a subject prior to beating the leftist drum.

Posted on November 16, 2012 at 3:04pm@My Two Cents: It’s about 1 million gallons per well, per fracking. And a well can be fracked a dozen or more times, so usually the number is higher per well. There are about 13,000 new wells per year, so if we take a middle of the road approach and say each well is fracked 6 times, it’s about 78 billion gallons per year, or about a quarter of a billion gallons of fresh water every day.
