Who Changed the CIAs Talking Points Calling Libya an Al Qaeda Linked Terrorist Attack?

Former CIA Director David Petraeus testified Friday that the spy agency’s first talking points called the Sept. 11 Libya attacks an Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist act, but that that language was removed for the final version ultimately used by U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, lawmakers said.

Petraeus testified that the CIA’s initial response referred to militant groups Ansar al-Shariah and Al-Qaeda, the Associated Press reported, but that those names were replaced with the word “extremist” during an inter-agency process to come up with a final draft. Petraeus did not know which federal agency made the change.

“No one knows yet exactly who came up with the final version of the talking points,” Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) told reporters after the closed-door House Intelligence Committee hearing.

Rice’s CIA talking points for a series of television appearances on Sept. 16 also called Benghazi “spontaneously inspired” by the anti-video protests at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and “evolved into a direct assault,” despite Petraeus’ testimony Friday that he believed from the start that terrorists were involved.

“The fact is, the reference to al-Qaida was taken out somewhere along the line by someone outside the intelligence community,” King said, according to the AP. “We need to find out who did it and why.”

But Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) said Petraeus testified that the CIA’s draft points were circulated to other intelligence and federal agencies for review. Udall told the AP that Petraeus said all agency leaders, including Petraeus himself, were presented with the final document and all signed off on it.

“The assessment that was publicly shared in unclassified talking points went through a process of editing,” Udall said. “The extremist description was put in because in an unclassified document you want to be careful who you identify as being involved.”

Four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, were killed in the Benghazi assault.

Petraeus resigned from his CIA post last week after admitting to an extramarital affair.

The most important question remains: Why was the ambassador there and what was the CIA doing there? No one is asking this question. The answer to that question is why they were killed and why the WH is circling the wagons. People wake up!!!!!!! Who cares if the talking points were changed and who cares who changed them. No one in the media is asking the right questions. They are having you look at the other hand once again!! And you are falling for it!!!!!!

  The Obama campaign had the stronges motive for changing the talking points.It is likely that Rice was promised the secretary of state job if she would lie to the American people about the Benghazi affair. Why did Rice go on those TV new shows and not someone who actually knew what happened at Benghazi? I want Rice and Obama to testify under oath.

We all knew within 24 hours what the attack was because the Libyan leader told us….Where on earth was our CNN, CBS, NBC all the big supposedly ‘watchdogs’ for America, at???   Does anyone have any problems with how far down this story has become? This story is being buried by time. The facts are that the President chose not to help American citizens in harms way AND AS A RESULT THEY DIED. If you believe otherwise you are an idiot. I believe in my heart that President Obama MUST be removed from power AT ALL COSTS. Of course the American people are to scared to do such a thing. They are terrified to stand. So Americans conceede to do anything that will not lead to any type of argumentative situation.   Bush was never my favorite either. There is no equivalence between the mind-numbing blind zombie followership of Obama–and his total unchecked freedom of movement to act with impunity–and the state of affairs under Bush. Back then, dissent was lauded as patriotic by “progressives,” and Bush didn’t get away with anything untoward without paying a very high price. That is how it should be now, but most journalists have been completely co-opted by an ideology that is bereft of any concern for the truth.

Okay. So I understand that Patraeus linked attacks to specific terrorists groups; those name were replaced with the word “extremists” and Patraeus along with others sign off on it as article elaborates. However, Ambassador Rice uses “spontaneous attacks”. That, to me, is a whole lot different than “extremists”. That, to me, can be interpreted in a whole different fashion so that the public will conclude it’s linked to video as Clinton and Obama railed to the world. Yesterday, Obama tells us in a press conference that Rice was sent out as instructed by the administration and to come after him instead of Rice. Makes it quite clear to me who is responsible for covering up the true source of the attacks on Benghazi.

Now, the real question is WHY the President wanted this covered up. What activities was the White House involved in that they would go to such extremes to cover up the attack.

Sad, but maybe true, if not for those who disobeyed orders, and the person(s) who did the video at the time of the attack, the cover up may have worked.

I think the video story was not aimed at the USA. I think it was aimed at the radicals. Remember how many places were attacked after they kept repeating there was a video. I think no one knew of the video until the WH made it known. Hillary Clinton truely looked upset. more so than ever before. I think because she had crossed a line and is afraid it will crash down on her. Obama even went with the video story at the UN so the world would know.
Petraeus should go help the minute men to get his reputation back.

I think it’s not only crazy that they made this story up but it’s even worse that the administration ran an advertisement on Pakistani TV, or as they pronounce it Paaahkeestaahn, to apologize for an American excersising his right to free speech and making a movie like he did. They spent 70K running an ad with Hillary and Obama apologizing “ooh, we are so sorry, please don’t be mad at us, we don’t condone that.”. What a joke, and why Mittens didn’t bring it up in third debate is beyond me.

Who changed them? Yes, that needs to be exposed; however, I’m more interested in WHEN did Obama/Hillary know that you can prove?? Attorneys say if you can prove Obama lied, that is a reason for impeachment. So far, I haven’t heard that addressed re his interrogation….plus he did lie in mid Sept. that it was the video.????? Sounds like we going around in circles, as was probably planned….so far.

There are great patriots–in the civilian sector–that have been of support to our national security in many other roles.   You are correct. Outside of the far right internet bubble, nobody really cares about this story. Serving in the military or as a diplomat in a volatile part of the world can be dangerous. They knew the job was risky when they took it, and that if they got in trouble we might or might not be able to help them. In this case we couldn’t. It’s very sad, but there’s nothing to be done about it now and nothing more that needs to be said about it.

The violence wasn’t based on a 15 minute video,it was an act of war and to have to tell adults that that’s what happened is idiotic it should be obvious. Four Americans were killed and the ‘one’ didn’t do anything to prevent it and a coverup ensued to ensure the ‘one’s’ reelection.

  ProgressiveSlayer – ‘The reminder of logic to the readers’ – I would remind readers and add, Why were they in a HOT zone? What was behind the presence there?
  Why was he meeting with the Libyan Counsel General and what was it about?
  Did the timing of their meeting have anything to do with the assault? (I say assault not an incident that the press and government regularly do.)
  Logic and speculation (often the same thing) would be to disarm the anti-Ghadaffi’s that were armed in preparation of the uprising.
  If so, then were they out to get the weapons (U.S. assisted supply) back or Ghaddafi’s military’s weapons or both.

  Slayer and Hauschild – Concur – The times were different then… Social Studies and economics were still taught in Jr and Sr High School… Mandatory classes no less. Can’t put a value on that until we flash forward to today. More people knew what was happening in their own backyard, town, county, state and fed levels and their schools and school systems.
  Nixon’s situation was easy pickin’s under that climate.
  More people will be watching the pretrials of Idol soon than have any clue to this nor Fast & Furious.
  And quite of few of the aware ones will not speak out of fear or a keep the peace mindset. At least that’s how it is here in Northern Virginia.
  
  Not overtly but in casual conversations, I do piss a lot of people off just mentioning current events. Especially at the watering holes.

  DADROCKED It’s a sign of the times isn’t it? Nobody knows or cares whats going on in the country they just go about their day blissfully ignorant of the inevitable crash. I know what you mean about ******* people off I do it regularly. Mainly to see if they’re informed on the issues of the day and sadly most don’t have a clue as to whats going on in the country,they will though and very soon.

  True Slayer! But I find interesting is that the ignorant/uniformed find themselves doing a 180 somewhere down the line and are drawn into conversation.
  As though, well here’s an example from this a.m. over the 2nd Amendment with a keatonc33. Belligerent punk at first, I approached him casually. It went on for awhile than he dropped off.
  My response to follow-ups was, “To all for the responses…My interpretation of Keaton was that he was fed and drank the kool-aid. BUT, he wanted to talk to someone with information… He didn’t hit and run like a lot of the trolls do. I just gave him another direction to think about.”
  At times its good to tick them off.

Valeria Jarrett is the first person that comes to mind. All others in the WH would not be brazen enough plus would fear losing their jobs. This was politically driven to protect the President just 2 mo. before the election. So he is number 1 on my list.

  Talking about treason trials at this point is just plain silly and destroys our credibility. Get a grip. Not any different than the other side yelling “racist’ every five minutes. Time enough for talk like that if and when we have enough facts to prove a case. I believe the President made the decisions also, but forming a lynching mob doesn’t help. Only makes the reachable part of the left hunker down.

  Snow, there is no way this is going anywhere. Even if bobo admitted on national TV that he personally watched, and orchestrated the cover up (for the good of the children because it was all Bush’s fault) impeachment would still not occur because the Dems hold the house and come hell or high water they will NEVER convict Obama of anything ever.. (unless he starts advocating free market reforms and individual liberty… then all bets are off.. but there is a snowball’s chance in hell of that.)
