Israel destroyed the headquarters of Hamas’ prime minister and blasted a sprawling network of smuggling tunnels in the southern Gaza Strip on Saturday, broadening a blistering four-day-old offensive against the Islamic militant group even as diplomatic efforts to broker a cease-fire appeared to be gaining steam.
The Jerusalem Post is reporting that world leaders are beginning to fly into the Middle East in an effort to halt the violence that exploded last week between Gaza and Israel, and those that can’t fly in are weighing in remotely. Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar are already working on an agreement, according to reports, and now UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon and various European leaders are beginning to lend their voices to the endeavor, as well.

Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton strongly defended Israel’s position in the conflict, according to the Jerusalem Post:
“The rocket attacks by Hamas and other factions in Gaza, which began this current crisis, are totally unacceptable for any government and must stop…Israel has the right to protect its population from these kind of attacks. I urge Israel to ensure that its response is proportionate…I am deeply concerned at the escalating violence in Israel and the Gaza Strip and deplore the loss of civilian lives on both sides.”

A spokesman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel reportedly called on Hamas to “to immediately stop shooting rockets from Gaza into Israel,” citing Hamas as the party “responsible for the outbreak of violence.”
“There is no justification for the shooting of rockets at Israel, which has led to massive suffering of the civilian population,” German spokesman Georg Streiter added.
The office of the UN Secretary-General’s seemed less inclined to cite an aggressor, simply begging for a stop to the “dangerous escalation” and restored “calm.”
Concluding that the rockets must stop “at once,” the UN reportedly added that “Israel must exercise maximum restraint.”

And the Jerusalem Post has the latest from the Arab League:
There were “some indications” of the possibility of a cease-fire soon, but there were “no guarantees” yet, Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi said.
Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal, who is in Cairo, held talks on Saturday with Mohamed Shehata, head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, on the possibility of achieving a cease-fire, sources close to Hamas said.
The Arab League in Cairo on Saturday said it backed Egypt’s effort to secure a truce. It plans to send a delegation to Gaza in the coming days.

Israeli military officials expressed satisfaction with their progress Saturday, claiming they have inflicted heavy damage to Hamas.
“Most of their capabilities have been destroyed,” Maj. Gen. Tal Russo, Israel’s southern commander, told reporters.
And it hasn’t been easy, they note.
“Most of their weapons are stored in civilian’s homes, they launch rockets from residential areas. We do not want to hit civilians in Gaza but we do want to hit the hornets’ nest of terror in Gaza,” he explained.
Hamas has unveiled an arsenal of more powerful, longer-range rockets this week, and for the first time has struck at Israel’s two largest cities, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Both cities, more than 70 kilometers (45 miles) from Gaza, had previously been beyond rocket range.
CBS News has more on Egypt’s efforts, in particular, to broker a cease-fire:
In a psychological boost for Israel, a new rocket-defense system known as “Iron Dome” knocked down a rocket headed toward Tel Aviv over the weekend, but Israel’s Defense Minister Ehud Barak has still authorized the emergency call-up of up to 75,000 reserve troops ahead of a possible ground offensive.
Israeli officials reiterated that they are not interested in a “timeout” of hostilities, and want firm guarantees that the rocket fire, which has paralyzed life in an area home to 1 million Israelis, finally ends.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he spoke with the leaders of Britain, Poland, Portugal, Bulgaria to press his case. “No government in the world would allow a situation where its population lives under the constant threat of rockets,” Netanyahu told them, according to a statement from his office.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Nov. 18, 2012 at 12:13amHamas was founded in 1987 (during the First Intifada) as an offshoot of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood (including later Al Qaeda leaders) assassinated the Egyptian President in 1981, thinking the 1979 peace treaty with Israel was treason to the “Palestinian cause.” This alleged peace process began with the Camp David Accords Egyptian President Anwar El Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin signed on September 17, 1978, witnessed by U.S. President Jimmy Carter, following 13 days of secret negotiations at Camp David.
This prophecy came three weeks later, October 6, 1978: “We shall say unto you these words, of this peace, this peace that your President has hid behind. Egypt now prepares to make war as she pleads for peace — and she shall make it in such a manner that it shall look as though the Israelians are at fault. But we say unto this lands that the Eagle [U.S.A.] shall spread his wings and coveth — beware of Egypt. Beware of the Palestinians who now plan to destroy your cities. Beware of the Arabian gold which now is buying its way into your country. All is part. For those who shall take control for the Anti-Christ, none other than them may barter or sell. It has been written. We said before, look unto Daniel, of the four beasts, and the last beast was made of iron. That beast was Rome.” [See The Revelation 13:16-18 and Daniel, chapter 7.]

Nov. 18, 2012 at 12:14pmUniversal, please know your facts… the peoples who destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 AD were NOT Romans! The legions that actually destroyed it was comprised of Arabs… Assyrians, Persians, Saudi Arabians, et al. The only Romans that were connected were the leades of the legions, and they actually tried to stop the destruction, but failed because of the frenzied hatred of the Arabs in their commands. Also, it was the EASTERN half of the Roman Empire that never died… the WESTERN half collapsed. The Eastern half comprised the Ottoman Empire, and that empire never completely died out… it was in existence until the beginning of the 20th century. Now, it is reviving, and it is coming out of Turkey, and the Muslim Brotherhood… the Islamic Caliphate that the 12th Imam is to come out of… the same 12th Imam that Iran has been rhetoricing about so much, lately. So, the final Antichrist will be Muslim.

However to stick to the millenialist theme developing here strictly speaking the Bible only specificaly addresses the anti christ in the Epistles of John.
The interesting thing is that John refers to Anti ChristS…yes plural. Have read and you might want to reinterpret according to the definitions given by these Epistles.

Nov. 20, 2012 at 8:27amNot four days, more like seven years. Hamas has shot thousands of rockets into Israel since before Israel retreated from Gaza in 2005. Every week or two, a missile is fired into Israel from Gaza. Only the recent escallation has brought a semi-serious response from Israel. If Israel’s leaders were real leaders, they would have a zero-tolerance policy for any border incursions from Gaza. Frankly, handing Gaza over to people sworn to Israel’s destruction was foolish in the first place. Gaza, as “unallocated territory” from the Palestine Mandate followinf WWI, is at least as Jewish, historically, as it is Arab, if nort more. It’s Jewish history certainly predates its Arab history. If Hamas doesn’t restrain itself, and current trends in Israeli demographics and politics continue, Israel will eventually retake Gaza and clear out any enemy combatants. If Israel is smart, it will then offer cash for Gazan Arabs willing to leave Gaza permanently, then annex Gaza as part of Israel. Look at a map: It makes no sense for Israel, strategically, to allow Gaza to remain in the hands of a sworn enemy.

I agree that the UN has been a useless … no, perhaps subversive is a more appropriate term …. organization over the decades since it was established YET the US which was born with the greatest Constitution that mankind has ever known is no longer honoring that Constitution and is acting in oppressive ways that are alienating America’s FRIENDS around the world. US Laws like the FATCA law which seek to impose penalties on ALL people worldwide that do not comply with it are an abuse and the politicians who have passed it need to be dismissed from office including President Obama who signed the Law. This law, under the pretense of seeking US tax evaders, is seeking excessive financial control over all people (regardless of citizenship) and financial institutions worldwide. The BLAZE and other media need to step up to the plate and expose FATCA for what it is. US citizens living (and working) outside the US are victims of this misguided law. Then I started reading the Bible for what it says – not what men in recent times claim it says – and find that Israel today has nothing to do with the Israel of the O.T. God destroyed them for rejecting and murdering their Messiah, His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
God’s interest is in building a kingdom that is NOT of this world – that is, the church of Jesus Christ – where there is neither Jew nor Gentile but all who belong (through salvation by grace alone) are one in Christ.

Nov. 18, 2012 at 1:47amGod also said that His Covenant with Israel was forever. You can’t discaount that. Now, He pretty much said back in the day that He was sick of the apostasy and was going to play with the Gentiles for awhile, but He never said he was going to turn His back on the Jews.
Proof of His promise is the fact that the Jews have existed as a separate people after 3000 years. After being banished from their own country and living for 1000 years among the Gentiles they’ve still remained apart.
Also, according to the Bible, Jews, who were banished from their homeland would one day return from the four courners of the earth to repopulate Israel.
Seems to me that God’s Word has been progressing according to plan. Youshould pay attention to that. Because with the Jews return to their homeland the clock to the End Days started.
Christians absotuely MUST support the Jews in this conflict. Remember God said that He would Bless those that blessed the Jews and would curse those that harmed them.
Choose accordingly. Personally, I’d prefer to be on God’s “nice” list and not on His “naughty” list.

What a joke.
Israel has caught the Muslim Brotherhood (sponsored and staunchly supported by Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar) well on the back foot. The MB was unprepared for the Israeli counter-attack and now they want to craft a ceasefire? Give me a break!
Egypt has been firing rockets into Israel, has sent its prime minister in as a distraction, and now goes whimpering to the UN and Europe for support. It is pathetic. And the UN’s immense contribution? In short: “Israel, you are in the right, but please stop defending yourself.”
Israel needs to clear Hamas out before it concentrates on the conflict that is coming from the very nations that are now squeaking about respite for the Muslim Brotherhood.
And who has once again managed to keep themselves out of the spotlight on the fray that they are orchestrating?
The house of Saud.

As you well know, at the core the Muslim Brotherhood has taken an hit to its confidence of ‘destiny to destroy Israel.” They did not anticipate the vigorous response of the IDF in the matter, having expected them to ‘take it’ as always.
There is much more going on though in the matter; sources I am in touch with in Egypt and Gaza have stated that Hamas has set up the border regions into strong points, a hedgehog defense as occurred with Hezbollah in Lebanon a few years back. Apparently they expected the IDF to charge head long into these defenses and take a beating.
Right now Hezbollah, and by extension Iran and Egypt are seeking the ‘moral high ground’ of the world media and leadership by playing up images of ‘dead children, women, families’ on the international level…and may be succeeding more than with military might.
Three places to watch for actions soon (say about three days if anything is to happen): Golan Heights and Jordan erupting into chaos and Iran moving troops across Iraq in a “joint stability operation” to ‘help secure the regions of Jordan and the Golan Heights.’
I have been getting too many consistent rumors from too many sources to doubt something is going on; hopefully I am reading the mess wrong in this case.

The MB has already started to move in Jordan and that was the last nation for them before Israel. The idiots can’t keep their mouths shut.
I was watching that clip from Real News the other day and noted Will Cain saying that Israel appeared like a person wandering around in darkness. As I commented then, and again now, Israel knows exactly what they are doing, they are experienced, and they will have a detailed strategy. They have, after all been in this position before.
Perhaps Real News should read the Blaze, and not the other way around.

Nov. 18, 2012 at 8:46pmTrue but, as soon as they clear out the threat, Hamas will begin rearming themselves with more rockets smuggled (Openly) into Gaza from Iran. All this with the help of Iraq and Egypt.
Israel should have NEVER returned Gaza to those sewer rats. When Israel left, Gaza was a clean and well kept area. No sooner than they left, the sewer rats turned the Gaza into a filthy vermin infested area. All, of course, to try to gain sympathy and millions of dollars in foreign aid which they immediately used to buy rockets, guns and orher weaponry.
If used properly, with the beautiful beach areas, Gaza could have become a luxury vacation spot and brought in hundreds of millions of dollars from Europeans, Americans and others looking for a vacation in the sun. Instead, they turned it into a ghetto.

Nov. 20, 2012 at 8:47amStarman70 – I agree with you, but it is important to note that what Israel did in 2005 was not a “return” of land to Arabs, but a gift. Gaza was labelled “unallocated territory” in the Palestine Mandate that followed WWI. That meant it was not included in either the Arab or the Jewish portion of Palestine when the territory was originally divided following WWII. Gaza fell to Egypt in the War of Independance in 1948-49. During the 19 years Egypt controlled Gaza, it did not offer citizenship to its residents, invest in its development, or succeed in annexing it. Look at a map. Gaza is really not part of Sinai. Israel liberated Gaza in 1967. Its importance as a security buffer with Egypt and later with the Palestinians and Hamas is obvious. That is why several Israeli governments encouraged Israeli Jews to move there and build robust towns, and maintained numerous military installations there. Only under intense pressure from the Bush Whitehouse and Condi Rice did Ariel Sharon abandon Gaza, creating thousands of homeless, unemployed Israeli Jews in the process, completely trashing their property rights. At the time, Israel was reassured that they would get American support if Israel was attacked from Gaza, but it is Israel’s weak leaders who have allowed far too many missiles from Gaza to go unanswered. Israel can take care of itself, but will it?

Nov. 18, 2012 at 12:52amWhen Israel gave the Palestinians everything they asked for in negotiations, Arafat stormed out and started another war. He assumed the Jews were weak because he could only imagine giving away so much if he were weak. But the Jews weren’t weak, they simply wanted peace.
When the Palestinians ask for a cease fire, it’s because they’re weak, running low on ammo, running low on morale, and need time to regroup and prepare their next attack. They will never do anything but murder Jews. It is the only reason they exist.
This is an endless cycle of Palestinians attacking Israel, then Israel defeating the Palestinians to the point where the UN steps in and saves them so they can regroup, rearm and attack Israel again.

Nov. 18, 2012 at 1:50amAn Iranian pre-emptive strike on Israel would be the last mistake the totalitarian Mullahs in Tehran ever made. Without nukes, Iran is no match for Israel. Its brigades of zealots are designed to subjugate their own people and the unfortunate peoples of their allies and its conscript regular military would melt away when faced with the technologically advanced, well-trained and heavily armed professional IDF. Without nukes, they also pose a real threat to their Islamic brothers in Iraq and the Gulf State. Even with nukes, Israel will not be their first target since any nuclear attack on Israel would be met with a counter-strike that would destroy not only the Islamist rulers grasp on power but every Iranian city and most Iranian citizens.
Peace in the Middle East would not be one inch closer even if Israel ceased to exist. The Muslim nations would just turn on each other and continue the unending conflict between the many religious factions and ethnic groups that has churned the Middle East since Islamist armies swept out of the Arabian Desert 14 centuries ago. And if, by some miracle, one group of Islamic despots managed to impose its tyranny over the ME and greater Muslim civilization, peace would not be the result. Aside for the violence and oppression Islamic leaders have always used to subjugate their own peoples, they would merely turn to reconquering the lands Muslim dictators once controlled and lost from the Iberian Peninsula to Central Europe to Central A

So why is Israel so important? Israel exists right in the middle of MB territory, and they are a substantial thorn in the MB’s side. Israel also has the potential to bring down the MB militarily and reduce all their plans to naught. This is why they are so desperate to annihilate the Israelis.
This huge stumbling block, which the Israelis represent, is of enormous benefit to western civilization. Saudi Arabia, an MB sponsor, through massive donations to US educational institutions, is teaching your young people that Israel is the aggressor and encouraging an entirely false world view to undermine popular support for that besieged nation. Does that answer your question?
