Melissa Harris Perry Reminds Audience of Violence, Disease & Land Theft History of Thanksgiving

MSNBC host Melissa Harris Perry gave her audience what is perhaps one of the most depressing Thanksgiving send-offs in cable television history on Sunday.

The often controversial host began her Turkey Day monologue on a positive note, describing Thanksgiving as “a uniquely American holiday, where you can relax with the Macy’s parade, football games and eat more food than you can imagine.”

But Perry immediately dashed these simple holiday pleasures with a heavy dose of doom and gloom.

“Thanksgiving is not that simple,” she lectured. “The kindergarten story that you learned about grateful Pilgrims and happy Indians is not even close to the historic reality of how European settlers brought violence, disease and land theft to the indigenous peoples who were already in this land long before it was discovered.”

But the political science professor was not done there. She attacked Macy’s for featuring Donald Trump in a recent ad, saying the department store has “nearly a half million people [urging] them to discontinue their relationship with Donald Trump, who’s vicious, racialized attacks on president Obama’s citizenship have continued unabated.”

She even attacked the NFL and America’s “unbridled enthusiasm for a post pig skin fest.” Perry noted that “thousands of players filed suit against the NFL this year based on claims the league hid information related to head injures and permanent brain damage.”

As for your holiday feast? Perry reminds you that “millions of poor families in this country” regularly go hungry.

Perry went on to say that we should still enjoy our holiday while we “embrace” the ”agony and loss and injustice that under-girds our history.”

  This is part of the ongoing narrative by the left. American nationalism is an obstacle for them because along with it comes a love of the constitution. You erode nationalism you erode support for the constitution. You erode support for the constitution then you remove the biggest obstacle to socialism in this country. Furthermore, if you erode nationalism..you create a sympathy for “world citizenship” whereby the kleptocracies and socialist states have greater sway on world affairs and more directly….nations’ finances…hence..the UN’s push for “world taxes” and the reparations for “global warming”.

  This woman has less knowledge of history than a 7th grader. First European to be involved in a War on this continent… Samuel Champlain who was dragged into the conflict between the Iroquois and Algonquin. Why were the Pilgrims able to occupy the land around Plymouth rock?….An inter-tribal war had devastated and emptied the Amerind villages in the area. What was the likeliest source of of all the Major Small Pox epidemics…Mexico. What was the source of syphilis?…the natives of Hispaniola. Historians, and idiots like this woman, who have an agenda always portray per-European North America like it was the garden of Eden… that there wasn’t strife, hunger, or disease.   I wonder what this woman would say if she was confronted with fact that her “slave” forefathers were not captured by whites. They were captured by Muslim blacks, and brought to the shore. The whites rarely left the boat.
  As for thanksgiving, it’s a celebration of the return of personal responsibility from socialism. Rush does a show on the real history of thanksgiving. But I guess when someone makes their mind up the truth fails as an argument.

  Some people go through life stupid. They never outgrow it. In Melissa’s case she’s just nuts. She always makes some outrageously stupid comments hoping to dazzle her 2 or 3 viewers. She’s the one who said her great grandmother was a slave, which was at least 60 years after salvery was abolished. The only thing that makes sense is she may have been referring to her grandma being part of the liberal plantation which still enslaves blacks. To keep them happy Barry gives them Mattel play cell phones so they can pretend to make calls. I guess the phones are worth being enslaved by the left.   Poor Melissa must not own a mirror. At least 3/4 or her ancestors are European. She doesn’t have 100% genuine African slave blood running through her veins. Some of her ancestors may have been bigoted and judgmental. The Puritans fled England because of religious persecution.

  This woman is on some kind of a guilt trip. Why stop at the Pilgrims and the US? It’s not like the human race sprang up will all the knowledge and laws from the 21st century. Does she suggest that we return the west to Mexico and the rest of the country to the Indians?
These whiners about the results of wars of long ago need to accept reality and stop with the
guilt trips. The outrage should be reserved for the thousands of civilians Obama’s drones
are killing and maiming and the 2000 servicemen lost by expanding the Afghani war. It’s time
to get out of the Muslim countries and use domestic energy sources. Obama’s the murderer

If you actually want to make a difference in the manner that the mainstream media reports, you have to effect their finances and the only way to do this is to contact their advertisers and voice your disagreement with their support of these Media sources with your reasons why. Remember, without advertisers these outlets are out of business.

Everyone today has to be sensationalist on one side or the other instead of trying to find ways to understand an opposing viewpoint and perhaps meet on some type of common ground.
  
  Here you’ll find people who like to piss and moan and complain about everything but are too lazy to get off their fat asses and do something about it like attending meetings to get their voices heard, writing actual letters to congress people, being vocal in their own communities, and more. That is one thing the left has on the right is that the left know how to organize and get things done while the right knows how to complain, complain, complain and complain some more and not really do a thing other than complain.
  
  You’ll also find the crowd here who believes science is fairy tales, that the earth is no older than 6000+/- years old, that anyone who is not of their specific faith is going to Hell, that evolution is impossible to have happened, and that man just MIGHT be contributing even a wee bit to climate change.
  
  They are so stuck in their ways you could point out specific proof of any one thing and they’d still find ways to deny it. It’s sad, but that’s how it has become.

  Liberals idealize the Noble Savages that populated the New World. In reality, the Indians lived a stone age existence. Disease, injury, starvation and exposure made for a short, hard life. Not all Indians were nice. The Blackfoot stole from all nearby tribes. The Sioux chased other Indians out of the Great Plains. The Aztecs murdered and enslaved other tribes. The majority of the land theft happened under European countries first. Then the west was “settled” by the Democrat party. The same Democrat Party that fought a war against the Federal government, in order to RETAIN the institution of human slavery.

We are no longer THOSE European countries. And people, like this MSNBC commentator want our government to mirror European governments more closely?

Progressives don’t have a clue. They speak out against the way governments treated a people, then they turn around and say we need to be more like them. Is anyone else dizzy?

  Thanksgiving? What SPECIFIC event are you talking about. The THANKSGIVING DAY MASSACRE? The turkey trot rapes? What does that specific day have to do with anything. The problem with Thanksgiving is that now EVERY instance of perceived …real or not….mayhem on the part of whites towards Indians is lumped in to the celebration for that ONE day. Quit pretending that that event means anything. You are trying SO hard to justify the fact that a few hundred starving pathetic Europeans somehow initiated the grand tragedy of the Indian way of life. ENOUGH. Having been to MANY reservations starting back in the 60′s (and watching Billy Jack 42 X) It is not POSSIBLE to blame ONE race for the WOES of another. It is a slippery slope.   WE USE THANKSGIVING AS MEANS TO MAKE IT SEEM THAT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SETTLERS AND NATIVES WAS HUNKY-DORY ENOUGH THAT THEY COULD JUST SIT DOWN AND EAT AND GIVE THANKS FOR ALL OF THE GOOD THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED TO THEM. You know damn well that the settlers and the natives had so much more history than that, good and bad, immoral and righteous. You know that placing all that history into a holiday that makes it seem as if their relationship was nothing but fun and thankfullness and good harvest is dishonest and does not represent what their relationship was actually like.There.   The first Thanksgiving celebration held in America occurred in 1619. On December fourth of that year, thirty-eight English settlers arrived at the Berkeley Plantation in Virginia. Part of their original charter stated that they would set aside that day every year and observe it as a day of Thanksgiving. Due to the hardships of those early times and various other factors, the celebration turned out to be a short-lived occurrence.
  
  The next recorded celebration is also the most famous. Plymouth, Massachusetts, 1621. The first winter the Pilgrims had in the “˜New World’ was a brutal one (nearly half of those who came over on the Mayflower died). Times did eventually grow easier on them though, the following harvest season was so bountiful in fact that the Pilgrims decided to hold a feast for celebration and thanksgiving. This “˜festival’, which lasted three days, included the participation of nearly one hundred Native Americans. Governor William Bradford had invited the natives to show them appreciation, for helping his colony survive through the harsh weather conditions

  Enough is Enough.The term thanksgiving came for the fact that the natives saved the bacon of the settlers.The Indians and the europeans took what they had and shared a meal.If you damn well disbelieve the hard times the settlers had, I suggest you come here to virginia and spend a year out doors.I also suggest that you have the same conditions the settlers had.You will either need to gather food or clear the land to plant.Think its easy get up off your lazy asses and try it.Guess what the land hasn’t actually changed that much.Only now someone owns it.
  To Those of you who think the settlers were the only problem get over it they weren’t,The British were.
  In case you haven’t yet figured it out there were those who got sentenced to america as political prisoners.They hated the British.They did every thing in their power to escape any vestigages of them.They moved west and intermarried with the Indians.Oh and one other thing native american tribes fought right along side us in the revolution.

  My family is probably going to cross the poverty line this year. We make $600 to much to qualify for Medicaid, Food Stamps, rent assistance and become exempt from paying income taxes. It takes a lot of effort to become a deadbeat and reap the rewards of Obama’s Socialist utopia.

  Natives were weak and as a result Europeans dominated due to better ideas, better tools, better education. If you are typing on a computer, thank a European. Cultures are not equal. Some cultures are better than others. Some cultures produce poverty and ignorance and some cultures produce wealth and excellence. Some cultures produce those who do and some produce those who don’t do, but take. Some cultures are stuck or in decline and some are moving, creating and growing. America is made up of many different cultures and even the Native American culture today is fractured in to many, many, many groups…some are better than others. Some celebrate alcohol abuse and some education. America is a melting pot where there is a constant culture war brewing and it’s been going on since the Europeans landed.

  Knower: If your REALLY upset about the slave trade, go do something about it. It still exists in other parts of the world, you know. The US did away with the slave trade a long time ago. If you look at the life of ANY african-american in the US and compare it to the parts of Africa they originated from, I’d say they improved their fortunes. It is also worth while to remember that slaves were bought from conquering African tribes. They weren’t captured.
  Native American, arent. They migrated from Polynesia. The US has done more good in the world then any other society. There is more good then bad. Last time I checked the only genecide that goes on in the US is perpetrated by the mothers themselves. Does this woman know that there are those of us Americans who not only donate food to those who might go without, but we also donate our time in soup kitchens and in restaruants that serve a free, to all who come, Thanksgiving meal? As an American I see Thanksgiving as a day to give thanks for all we have and also to give back by providing, even in a small way, to those less fortunate than I.   How can anyone who is a true American not despise this person? Being conservative has nothing to do with it. No one can agree with this person and still keep the right to consider themselves Americans. Period. No politics needed. Any political group holding this hatred for our founding is clearly UN-American.
  
  I have no doubt she lives an easy life making hundreds of thousands a year. In every other place on earth her life would not be so good. Given the life she has lived here since birth one could assume to her life would he a living hell in virtually every other nation on earth. Yet with all her vile mouth and all her big bucks I bet she does not give a thin dime to help even one single soul. No one this full of hate, evil, and angry bitterness has charity for another by the very definition of their true nature.
